1989 and 1992 ford mustang comparisons?
Blown03SVT replied to ERIK88's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The lowrider "skateboard" euro look is bad enough, but that offset on the kit is extremely unrealistic. So many things come to ming how this wouldn't work very well in 1:1. Anyhow, 79-93 Mustang are Fox bodies, as are Fairmonts, Thunderbirds, LTD's, Cougars, and Lincoln Mk VI's from around that era. Ford got some mileage out of that platform. -
Back to basics questions and tips

Not heat with embossing powders. Apply the same way as flocking. It goes down much finer. I picked some up at the craft store and it worked pretty well. The plus side is if you apply it before paint it will be the color carpet you want with the paint over it. No more mixing flocking for a special color. I tried it as underhood insulation... I used black and once the white glue cured and the powder was bonded, I brushed clear flat acrylic enamel over it and it looked pretty darn close to my eyes. -
IME the future shine lays down really thin. It levels out so well it shouldn't really need color sanding and polishing. It also builds... where more coats lead to a little more depth, shine and a smoother surface. As far as waxing it, it should wax out fine, just make sure it's cured for 24 hours, 48 or more if you have added multiple coats. I knew it was cured when I couldn't smell the ammonia smell from it. I have yet to try the trick of using a used, yes USED dryer sheet to buff it up but I hear that works well. Also future does not play well with decal setting solution. It will cloud and lift it.

My two biggest gripes with the kit were the misalignment of the nose to the cowl in relation to the side coves and the windshield and frame were a pain. The windshield was about a 1/4" too tall. It had to be cut down and then the frame stripped of the heavy chrome then epoxied to the glass and foiled. Come to think of it, those front and rear body pans take alot of shaping, and that flip nose hinge is going to need some tweeking to get it to work and sit right. Looks alright when done, be prepared for a challenge.

how to remove left over bmf glue from paint
Blown03SVT replied to Scalper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
it will clean up if your patient. My suggestion is to not use that foil again. the paint is nice on that car. I would use a silver sharpie before I used that foil again. What a nightmare! -
2014 Z-28 Camaro

I read and enjoyed your review actually, as well as the one with the big scale GT500. And hopefully your review inspired a few folks and helped move a little more inventory after people saw what the box contained. I know that all the kits reviewed cannot be 3-4 page articles. -

Goo Gone should work pretty well. I use that on my 1:1 car to get rid of bug guts. I would assume lightly dampening the towel or cloth and gently rubbing the adhesive off. Make sure to try it on the underside of the body on the overspray where you cannot see to see if it will attack the paint before getting after the glue on the shiny side. I suppose when you get the chance or the money you could pick up a sheet of BMF and ease your frustration next time. I have almost a whole sheet of the DM stuff I cannot give away. -
2014 Z-28 Camaro
Blown03SVT replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Frank, IMO the snap tite Camaro has better looks and proportions than the full detail kit. I even bought one after I saw what Mathhew Usher did with one in the other magazine. Maybe... just maybe, if the reviews that were published provided more than just a builders impression. Maybe expanded reviews? Pictures of the whats in the box goes a long way. FWIW, MCM actually does a pretty good job with the reviews in the way they are formatted. I just wish there were maybe a few more pictures of the kit and the assembly process. I guess thats were forums like this help the hobby. With out being able to sample the kit or see whats in the box before purchase you have to be really intrigued by the subject or base your decision on how it looks in the box art which at times can be unflattering. -

Model Master as in Testors or Detail Master? I wasn't aware of Testor having foil. I have tried Detail master and let's just be nice and say I will stick with BMF. -

Thats sick! The impressive part to me is to make something so nice out of something that would normally be cast off as a toy. -

What makes clearcoat yellow like this?
Blown03SVT replied to dantewallace's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The enamels I have used will do that, only noticeable on lighter colors usually. Laquer clears (which I beleive Tamiya is a laquer formulated for plastic) tend not to yellow like that. -

A little bit of carnuba wax or Novus #1 of a soft polishing cloth should remove it. -
Both are super clean, and sharp. But the Torino wins hands down to me.

Blown03SVT replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
sadly the RM tuner kits were good kits. I bought a bunch of them (missed out on the Subaru WRX though). But there were other flops like a tuner Chevy Citation (Come on...REALLY?!). The problem with kits of import cars is the styles evolve and change quickly. It would be impossible for a kit manufacture to keep with current trends and not lose their behinds in the process. The AMT kits I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. They looked like trash in the box art. Sign of the times I guess. That genre of kits appeals to a generation that just is not as excited about models as the older groups that have no interest in the subject matter. Back to the original topic though, I just read yesterday SRT at Fiat/Chrysler has something up it's sleeve for the Z/28 hopefully upcoming. -
Those are very nice!

2014 Z-28 Camaro
Blown03SVT replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The original 1967 Z/28 was the basis for the 2014 which was a drivers car. Not a sticker package with T-tops. I like how competition improves the breed. Between the Mustang, Challenger and Camaro the cars keep getting better every year with better heritage type models every year. Now if Dodge could see fit to slip in a AAR with the new Cuda thats replacing the Challenger. It would fit perfectly above the R/T and the top dog SRT-8. -
1,183hp 2013 Shelby GT500 S/C

This! For that money you get a dyno queen with a Shelby serial number. If you hit it in fourth gear at 65mph it would be all over the place. I am a Mustang guy but to me this is over kill. -
Wonder how long..............
Blown03SVT replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Volt is built for a purpose, much like all the other Eco friendly Electric/ Hybrid cars. Any tinkering would impact the designed efficiency of the vehicle I would think. For me I would never want to modify one, nor would I ever be smart enough. I am not a Software Engineer, Cryptologist, Electrician, and a Mechanical Engineer. Here's to you OP for being a dreamer though and thinking out of the box... -
Does anyone remember this?
Blown03SVT replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My mother had me signed up for something like that in the late 80's. It lasted a few moths asI wasn't crazy about building planes, I just wanted cars. I remember the first model I recieved was a Fiero GT. I also remember Golden Wheels and Golden Opportunity kits. AMT had something too as I remember saving upc's in the mid 90's for a free kit. -
Is it just me or...?

I have always used the super cheap stuff found at Walmart and so forth. Never had a problem. Wonder if the formulations have changed due to VOC's? This sounds like a question for Donn Yost. -
IIRC my set came from radio shack. I bought them for my real job and they migrated to my hobby table over the years.
