  1. the revel kit built straight from the box really doesn't have a nice appeal to it, but being built as a custom as I have seen , as with yours , made me grab one (post pics later). the best advise I can give anyone wanting to customize trucks would be to contact a chrome and custom shop and have them send a catalog with pictures. I use one for reference, its a great thing to have. john
  2. thanks for the good words, is being built for a buddy at the shop , he seen the cab (he is an IH nut ) and said" how much and build it," it will be kind of sad not to keep it, but I can turn the $ over for projects..win win.....john
  3. take tims advice,he is the peterbilt man, I believe he suffers from redovalitis! lol
  4. does towing a load of circus elephants count? I mean upset circus elephants, just about put me in the ditch!
  5. Had a clear coat scare this morning but was able to wash it off,it took some paint with it but luckily it worked in my favor since this is a weathered truck, turned out to simulate real road wear! Check it out.....thanks john
  6. This is the logger I'm working on,I done my frame extension after the main frame was together.except I added to the center to except the tag axle...john
  7. Still going together rather well, most of the chassis is coming to an end.started the weathering and road wear, cab has been painted and decaled, you have to look close for the details.check out the missing quarter fender that had fallen victim to the blown tire on the catwalk.....enjoy,,john
  8. if anyone has any pics of a dash board or a site I could look up ,I would be greatly thankful for it.....thanks john
  9. the filter can is from the kw cabover kit, it was as close as I could get without scratch building one. so far I have about 15 hours of build time on this. it just seems to be falling together.the hardest part was filling in the head lights to make them look correct. most everything is either pulled from a parts box or scratch built........
  10. Starting out with just a cab from the parts box and an idea transformed into a full blown project to back date this to a 1974 4070a.
  11. just remember if you choose to use aircraft as a load the scale is not the same. the closest to 1/25 scale trucks would be 1/32 scale aircraft. its close but not exact. best thing to do is research. 1/25=2.1 feet
  12. good luck and be carful, don't want you dangling off the back of my hook. I run the wreckers across from the petro at exit 357 in fremont Indiana. stop by sometime, the coffee is always free!
  13. nice! builder like my self, cut it up and improve it......sent you a message , check it out..very nice pete! john
  14. fremont Indiana, nationwide chrome and customs truck show and model truck show....phone 260-495-0121 for details
  15. im with baddgass, i'd like to see more on the hinges and locks. can you post something in the tip section?
  16. cant wait to see more progress with this unit. the sides on the front legs is something I've really only seen on European wreckers. does this mean its going to be right hand drive?
  17. the lonestar is really a love hate relationship in the world of trucks. you either think its the coolest thing you have ever seen or its the ugliest thing on the road. never liked the stock headlights they just seem to be completely out of place. that's why I put the singles on. and with the colors, I kind of stayed with the original, just swapped them around. the 1970's to the mid 1980's is when the manufacturers really produced some of the best looking paint jobs hands down. that's what I was after with this truck...............thanks john
  18. Got a little bit done, but not as much as I would have liked.spent most of the weekend in the real thing.(had another rollover on i69) so here it is.reworked the rear down riggers, added some body trim and built the side winch.the cable will run under, through the shive wheel and up to the boom. Have a look.......thanks john
  19. if she was painted olive drab or flat sand it could pass as a military unit. love it ................john
  20. thanks for the feed back. i'll give it a try
  21. what can I say that everyone else had already said....speechless. love the 4300 !
  22. I added 1/2 inch to the hood. didn't want to get to carried away, if you can believe that after the lonestar build. and it never dawned on me about using alum. tubeing on the cylinders. I thought of the build up of paint and the tolerences and figured I would cross that bridge when I got to it. as far as using other materials? well I have been just winging this whole project. if it looked good and fit ,I just ran with it. and last but not least. give FOUNDATIONSEDGE a huge welcome. found him floating around another fourm an boys let me tell you, he's got talent. hope to see some of his work in this neck of the woods.........thanks john
  23. what is the best way to bend plastic (evergreen ) tubing without kinking it? thanks john
  24. thanks for the high marks, but I need to stop and finish it quickly. got a show the first of sept. I would like to take it to. regardless finished or not , cant short cut now. it may go as a work in progress.
  25. still have a lot of work to do . all the large pins sticking out will be gone after painting. i'll need to dis-assemble everything to really get good coverage and work in different color. white and alcad 2.stay tuned, took some more reference photos today at the shop so there may be more changes yet to come..thanks for the positive feed back......john
