Time Attack Widebody Lancer Evolution 8 (UPDATE: ALMOST Done!)
Kennyboy replied to Kennyboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks guys......so here is today's update: Had to do ALOT of work to the interior pan and chassis to get the body to sit this low....the kit has the suspension sitting like a lifted truck all the way around. Ended up cutting out the side windows to create more room for the body to come down and sit on the interior, otherwise the interior would sit on the bottom of the window pan and lift up the body again . Also, had to trim the front of the dashboard to allow the frontend to drop. All-in-all, a real pain! I did decide to go with my bright MOMO style seats for the interior because you can't not see them! Besides, I liked the look of them in my Ferrari build so I made another set. I will be making locating pins to ensure the body sits the same side to side in the end....but for now, here are some early mock up shots sitting on the chassis. ( please forgive the plastic dust all over it....I had to grind quite a bit!) -
VERY nice work on this Wilson! Welcome to the forum!

Time Attack Widebody Lancer Evolution 8 (UPDATE: ALMOST Done!)

OK! I am back.....I have been working (VERY HARD!!!!) on this to get the body back in shape after the last paint mishap. After stripping the body in the pond ALL the bodywork had to be re-done. I was so close several times to throwing this against the wall!! I got my patience together though and spent every day after work sanding, filling, blending, sanding, filling.......etc, etc. As previously stated, I wanted to go for more of a "sinister" look this time around....mostly because it seemed like for a while there this thing was possessed by something! While the body was stripped of paint this time around I chose to add the Aero bits on the rocker panels (Evergreen) and handmade the rear splitter from Evergreen and the rear spare tire piece from the 57 T-bird. (The curved bottom piece under the splitter uprights on the back.) Sprayed the color on it last night.....it is Black Lacquer with about a tsp of GM Dark Blue metallic mixed in, it came out a decent looking Black Metallic. The clearcoat got a bit orange peeled when cured but that will be dealt with in the wetsanding/polishing department. Took a quick view of what the finished wheels look like in the wheel arches......I like the look with the red stripe and black paint....so it's good that worked. What you see here is how it sits this morning....I figured I would let it "gas out" outside in this beautiful weather we are having. Took some close-ups too to show that the seams (over 20 of them) are completely gone. ENJOY! -
One of my favorite Lambo kits......your build is quite clean Robert. Nice work!

Time Attack Widebody Lancer Evolution 8 (UPDATE: ALMOST Done!)

Usually I dont run into problems like this but, I think it had something to do with the bare plastic from the Xmods widebody. I have conquered that problem now. Gonna go for a more sinister look for this time around. -

Thank you guys.......I guess I was the next to get the bad luck bug........ran into an issue when doing the second color. Used a liquid masking for the "tear/rip" graphics I was doing, all was going well....the color coat laid on smooth but the masking material would not come off once the paint cured!! I was forced to throw it into the pond for three days to strip off the 6 coats of lacquer that were on it. As of today, the body is back to yellow/gray plastic and ready for sanding of the filler (which had to be added again!) I am sorry for the hiatus but this has not been a "fun" week. Hope all will understand..........as a result of this "issue" the body will be painted a VERY dark Midnight blue. Will be back soon with pics once I have something worthwhile! Thanks! -
WOW Tom! That looks just Magnificent!! Well Done!!

Decided on the "Main" color today.....Kandy gold! The color was achieved by basecoating black, then using HOK Galaxy Grey, followed by HOK Kandy Pagan Gold. I will more than likely use another color with this (possibly black) to compliment and add to the Time Attack look I am going for. Wheel shots will be later........they are drying. For now though..........ENJOY! -

Thank you guys for the support and the laughs!..........got first primer on it, did the 2nd round of filler and wetsanded today......what you see here is the 3rd round of filler in some spots (oops! got to cut out the other front vent!) Getting real close to the next phase (which will be all the aero pieces....which will be scratchbuilt.) -
GREAT work being done here!!

Some more pics of progress......... -
This project is for next month's local club build......"Modern Muscle" Always wanted to do something like this so I went to the "JDM Drawer" of the stash and pulled out the Fujimi Evo 7 kit. The kit is VERY crisp on detail but what it does lack in is that certain EVO attitude......basically, the kit portrays the EVO as a Ralliart style Lancer. The body is very ho-hum on width and the wheels look like they are MAYBE sixteen inch diameter. Ok, enough of that...... The goal of this build is to bring the attitude of a full-on track fighter. Think Varis, HKS, Chargespeed, and maybe a little Voltex mixed in for good measure. The wheels are Pegasus 23" sleeves with the five spoke modular's from the Shelby Series 1 kit (I think they look pretty darn close to SSR Professor's) we'll get to the wheel's later though.....body first! I started the body aspects with a quick purchase of an XMODS Evo bodykit......very nicely detailed BUT it is only 1/28 scale, so too small to just cut and paste then paint. I had to use different portions of each piece and blend it with the existing body (which has proven quite challenging but VERY rewarding as well!) There were a few times I was unsure of cutting into the perfect fenders and/or quarters but hey.......if you don't risk it how are you going to go the next level? So here is where I am as of two days ago.......currently sanding the 3rd round of filler. The body has come a LONG way in quite a short amount of time, I am really surprised how it sort of fell together so far........not going to curse myself though so ENJOY!

Well, I guess I missed this........darn it!! I believe my '57 T-bird would have had a good chance!
-
Sorry to miss you Ben......was a great time. I think Rich has something for you. Won a F-n-F Civic in the raffle!

I'll be there with a certain new T-bird build.....

Yep Ryan that sounds like the stuff! This stuff is awesome Michael

Hey Scott.......no need to eat bad tasting gum to get the foil. Look online at Michael's or just Google Fancy Foil......comes in a roll that would last a modeler a lifetime! Costs like $10.00 U.S.
