Okay, it’s almost done! I wanted to finish it for the New Year, but I won’t quite make it, I guess. Still, pretty close! Well, I might; I still have two days as of when I write this, so if it all goes well, it could be done before the ball drops on the 31st! Check out the Scooter with the body on, interior in and nearly everything coming together. I’ve still got small stuff to do, but I thought I’d put this up so you can see what a difference the small stuff makes! Happy New Year, everybody! http://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2013/12/30/chevette-update-5-body-count-in-da-house/'> http://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2013/12/30/chevette-update-5-body-count-in-da-house/

Okay, just got done a trade, so here's my list of great traders here on Model Cars: Customman - Great kits shipped FAST. Everything exactly as advertised, if not better. No fear here; he's an awesome guy to deal with!
-
Dood! I have to get one, or both of those Pintos! The Pony Express is EPIC! So lame; it's like they took all the bad ideas from Bear Bait and just put them on yet another car! I hate those square-headlight Pintos, so now I really, really want one!
-
Awesome build and I love the wheels! They suit the car perfectly. Great clean job; so nice to see one of these tastefully modded; all the real ones around where I am are just riced and beaten.
-
I like the Gen 2.1 front on the Gen 2.3 back. It works well. I would love to see a Gen 2.1 Front on a Gen 2.4 back ('79-81) but with a shaker only. It's a personal thing; I've never been a fan of those long RA intakes. That's just me, though, you did a good job making it work!

Alright, we’re rolling now: literally! The wheels are on and the engine is in, so the Chevette is getting really close to done now! I might get time to finish before the New Year, but with Christmas this week, I could get delayed. You can see the next step in the evolution of the Scooter here: http://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2013/12/20/chevette-update-4-rollin/

Looking good, man! I like the choice of the "thick" grey paint; it definitely suits the car, and I think your analysis of potential ownership is right on the money. Nice interior work, too! Keep it up; this is going to be pretty awesome.

I think we need 1/25 rubbish; thinks like rusty cans, old Coke bottles, ripped up magazines, etc. Can't have a wreck without food wrappers on the back seat either! Did someone call for cigarette butts and ashes in the seats? Sounds good too!
-
Oh man, that's awesome! Love the leaves, and the different coloured nose cap! That's how a lot of them ended up, likely!
-
Man, 8 1/1 Chevettes! They must rock! I'm, pretty impressed, overall, with the car, and the things I've learned about it. Sure, I love to chide it and make fun of it, but I've seen way more Chevettes on the road, still, than I have early to mid 80's Hondas, Toyotas or even Escorts. Tom: You're right about the Cavalier. It has a really nice engine bay and a beautiful engine, too. I should get it posted sometime, I guess, eh?

It’s time for another Chevette update. I’m getting a lot closer to getting this little guy done, and soon he’ll be terrorizing the 1/25 motorways! Of course, to do that, he needs an engine, and that’s what I’ve gotten done now. I also have the chassis done, since I have to have somewhere to put the engine, right? Check it out here! http://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2013/12/18/chevette-update-3-foundations-of-power/'> http://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2013/12/18/chevette-update-3-foundations-of-power/

Normally, I don't really like new wheels on old cars, but man, those look awesome! I guess it just proves that T/A's rule, and can rock any style! Nice work man!

Don't remember this one.
Faust replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, that's just... wow... I guess everything old is new again, eh? Not my taste, but my brother would love it stock. He's a 70's boat guy, and I'm an 80's loser guy. I can fit like 25% more kits on a shelf than him in the same scale! I don't really get why they'd want to do that in the 70's, but then again I don't know why people want to do it now. I need a Model T with big old-fashioned wood wheels that I can chrome up and then slam the body, to be a 20's lowrider. There's something that makes even this Chebby look credible! -
DUDE!! Diesel Chevette? I didn't even know that was an option! I can't believe that it's not into the $10K+ region now! Nothing spells GM fail like a diesel Chevette. It's so terrible it's awesome, except for things like performance, reliability, black smoke plume and "pocket full of buttons in a tumble dryer" clattering sound. So epic it hurts. I wish they made the kit with a Diesel. Now I'm a bit sad inside...
-
Wow. A $10K Chevette. I imagine people never thought that day would come! That's more than I paid for my Trans Am! Of course, that was 13 years ago, but still, a Chevette's only half the car!
-
LS Chevette! Rock on! The ultimate kitbash, and in the best scale: 1/1! I find it hard to believe these things are commanding any price at all, but then in 1970, a '57 Chev was just an old beater, too! Chevette nation will rise! I'm working on the mighty 1.6L mill right now. Just got things into primer and ready for paint.
-
Oh man, turbo V6 Chevette is awesome! What a brilliant idea! When I get the Engine and Chassis done, I'll get some more pics up, and I'll have a full writeup when she's all finished off. I like your son's car, too! I must say, I'm amazed that Chevettes, that were so maligned when they were new, seem to have such a following. I'm really impressed, and I've got a lot more respect for this little buggy now! I think you need to drop a LS1 into one and see what happens.
-
Amen to that, Ken! That's the best part about forums and the like, too; getting to see how people do things and picking up tips and tricks along the way. I got the chalk idea from railroad guys; a few guys I know use the same method for doing rust and stains on rolling stock. It never ceases to amaze me how you can use so much stuff from different "disciplines" of modelling!

Charlie, the colour for the interior is Model Master Acrylic Dark Tan. It's a bit lighter in the photos than it is in real life. I wouldn't use it for camel, really. I'd use MMA Sand with a bit of brown in it, it's closer. I don't know why (I'm no photog...) but it looks a bit more orangey in the photo than on my bench. It reality, there's a bit more darkness and brownness to it. Perfect for a Civic, though (hint, hint...) If you added a bit of light grey to the MMA Dark Tan, you'd likely get a camel colour too. Thanks for the comments on the washes, too. They're actually not washes at all; they're chalk pastel lolights that I do after I paint everything. The carpet is then re-drybrushed the interior colour on the "high spots" to give the carpet some depth. I tried washing, but I just don't know how to control it. The pastels, on the other hand, work like magic and I can completely control them.

No, Tom, I didn't bother opening the glove box. I figured that most people wouldn't even notice it due to the black dashboard anyway, so I just left it. I didn't paint the lock, though, so it wouldn't show up. Man, waxing nostalgic over a Chevette during Thanksgiving dinner is not what one would normally expect! It's nice that she remembers it so fondly (likely she swore at it a few times or more back in the day, though!) and even better that you can build a kit of it for her! As I'm finding out, this kit is not a hard build at all. I normally build a car and something else (Gundam or plane, usually), but I was pretty hot for this one, so I thought I would blitz it. I don't know if it can be done in a month, but I'd say you have a good shot at it! I started mine on the 16th or 17th of November, and with some hustle, I think I can be done by the middle of the month. Go for it, man!! Greatest Christmas Present ever! I feel good that this whole affair is going to give two Chevettes the chance to escape their boxes! Thanks, Ronald, for the compliments!

Thanks! Typical MPC interior. Just nice all around, with good fitting seats (cast in one piece, no less!), nice carpet texture and nice dash detail. I think the stitching (such as it is) on the door panels is also a nice touch; definitely worlds above the same era of intgerior in a Monogram or Revell, or even AMT. I could have done with REAL tires, but these are better than the monstrosities that came with the AMT Monza 2+2!

Okay, so I’m not just sitting here doing nothing with my Chevette, I’ll have you know! I’ve been working hard, and I figured it was time for another update. Check out my Scooter’s progress here: http://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2013/12/03/chevette-update-2-its-whats-inside-that-counts/'> http://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2013/12/03/chevette-update-2-its-whats-inside-that-counts/. For those who need inspiration to get building, a beige Chevette Scooter may not be it, but it sure gets my blood pumping! Next up: The chassis and engine!
-
Your stash must be awesome! Yeah, there is a difference in the wheelbase between the two and four doors. I found a 1979 brochure online and downloaded it. Do it, Tom! Power to the Chevette Nation!
-
Okay, so the engine is blue, even the valve cover! That's messed up... That's why I strip ALL plated parts on a car kit. You're right, Tom, about the fenderwells not being done right on the Chevette. I also agree about the Cavalier; I've built it too, and it was better than this. This is a bit of an older kit, though; I've found that MPCs really get better as they get newer, even by a year or two. Given that this is the 1975 kit with tweaks (I assume) it's not bad. I don't like moulded in exhaust and driveline, though, I'll admit. By the Omni 024 in 1979 these were separate items. Still, it's a Chevette, who am I to argue? Thanks for the detail shots! I will do my best to make Chevette Nation proud. These little oddballs seem to have a strong following; I remember there were lots of them, and it took them a while to die off. I still see one or two every now and then. Ugly, maybe. Tough, seems like it for sure! I'm having a blast with this one. Most fun car I've built yet! Don't worry, I'll keep you guys posted!

Thanks, Larry! I'm actually just cutting engine bits now. Took me a while to find the Carb... it was loose in the box and hiding under one of those flappy things. Is the engine on a Chevette blue? Say what you want about MPC, but man, I can't get enough of their car kits. Their engines are so much better than everyone elses, and the interior texturing is great too. I'm on a bit of an MPC bender right now, trying to get as many as I can. I've got about 9 in the stack, so that's pretty good for me.
