The great one died 19 yrs ago today.
heinz74 replied to 935k3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
stopped watching formula 1 after his death...that did it for me the guy was a legend..and in his own way had a lot of charisma.. -
well after all that putting it together ,there really is no way back.. the chassis fitted horrible to the tub and shell..but after some gentle persuasion things came out ok (i think) did a lot of detailpainting like the windowseals ,emblems etc also the rear bumper and taillights did'nt line up after dry fitting so i shaved some edges off, like earlier said i Alcladded most of the kit's original chrome so these parts were no exception guess in the end they came out allright. never mind the white particles on the roof and trunk..that's just dust or dandruff i cheated a little on the front fender 'fuel injection' emblems.. painting those was never gonna cut the mustard ..so i fabricated them on my PC.. haven't really gad the chance to shoot pictures in a proper way but this is the finished article.. if photographed in the right circumstances it could be mistaken for the real thing..hahaha .. all in all not the greatest kit to build ,but when it's finished it looks great and even though it's basically a large 1/24-25 ,the door is wide open to add your detail to it.. maybe the 50th anniversary kit is easier ,i don't know..and rectifying somebody elses 'work'is never fun in this case..but i took my time with it.. probably could have built a rat or yunker out of it...but hey ..what's the use of that?.. anyway another vintage Monogram kit saved from the dumpster...now where am i gonna keep this thing?..it's 45 cm's long for crying out loud! greetings..(better pictures will surface soon) excuse my English ,it's bad i know

"MOGGY" BOOGIE (Doctor Cranky's 1935 Morgan) 1/16th Scale
heinz74 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Model Cars
nice clean build Doctor!.. and yeah in bigger scale everything even looks better up close..speaking of which how long is this kit in total..cause i have no idea what the size of a real Morgan is...it looks small(ish) as a kit -

great stuff on those brakes!..i guess i'll be using that trick for my '69 Camaro too..Mustang of yours is coming together nicely..! -
these were rare cars ,even over here..Volkswagen (Karmann)never really built a Corrado convertible.. so Zender cut the roof of a couple ,,but quality was...poor to say the least i see your kit has has something of the PG engine (G60) with it.. not really accurate in detail ,,,but hey who cares Corrado's were offered with a wide range of engines over here from a lame 115 hp 2.0 8v all the way up to the big 190 hp 2.9 VR6 and the 1.8 and 2.0 16v's ... based on the mk2 Golf (Rabbit) they make great donor vehicles ...for these like to see the finished kit though...

Favorite Scale to Build in?
heinz74 replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1/12 mostly...don't really care for smaller...the choice of superfine detailed diecast in 1/18 is very good in europe.. some kits in 1/24-25 scale for Euro cars are way of in terms of form and detail.. making it not worth the trouble of building them.. -
A little more about the '57 again as most of you know cars from the 50's were really loaded with chrome and a Bel air is no exception to that rule.. when i did this kit back in the '80s i probably just used silver paint and a brush for it's trim nowadays there are more options available i tried to locate some BMF for this occasion but couldn't get any ,even an online store was out of the stuff plus the fact i never used any ever before and reading all the horror storys about it i went the Alclad route..which works great..maybe even better after a lot of masking i ended up with this.. i think i'll be trying BMF in the future but only on a kit that is a little less covered in the stuff anyway, after that i carefully dryfitted things together...which is always fun.. because things that fitted great before often tend to be completely wrong after paint etc also glued the windows in with some epoxy after polishing out a zilion of scratches Alcladed most of the kit's horrible chrome parts..and went back to final assembly the tires all had dents in them..the cost of beeing stored for years in akward positions ,but a hairdryer and some patiently massaging did wonders..,so i fixed them to the axles.. gave the grille a black wash also..and some detailpanting along the way.. Ok that's it for now...more to come this week greetings!

1/12 2010 Shelby GT500 "Super Snake" COMPLETED in Under Glass
heinz74 replied to Kennyboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
nice work so far...altough the kit seems to be getting negative comment on being to simple and underdetailed..it looks great for the price of it..(i also got one) and the way you are going at it makes me wanna start mine .. -
finally after 5-6 months of extremely unpleasant weather the sun has come to Holland.. i can't remember when i drove my car with its sunroof open.. i'm going on 40 years old (i hope) and i've never seen snow in April.. this is really frustrating for someone who likes to be outside wihout wearing 5 layers of clothing now where are all those treehugging/enviromental 'beware global warming' types at now? anyway i hope it more or less stays like this till Oktober.. makes people in general a little easier to live with too
-
ok ,some more progress.. in all honesty ,the model is allready finished after 6 months of work ,and i'm very proud of it since hardly building anything like this for 20 years except rebuilding /tuning 1/18 diecast Euro cars... Anyway here's the engine all finished..and i know the wires should be black ..but the kit was missing them..so i had to figure out something else.. i also replaced the plastic fanbelt with a rubber belt from an old tape deck..just for detail sake and i added fuellines in the process also added fuel and brakelines to the completed chassis..along with the flexible hose going to the rear axle and the splitter on te rear axle.. it 'll probably be sort of 'amateur night' to you guys but i think it looks fine.. being a former carpainter/bodyman i shot the sanded body with some 2 pack leftover VW 041 black i had in my garage.. this is just normal 1/1 Standox through a automotive 1,2 spraygun etc.. after curing for a week i wetsanded and polished it so the surface has no orangepeel and the shine is miles deep.. probably not like the real thing back in 57 ,but hey this is a restored car after all well that's it for now..i hope you all like it so far ,,more to come if so desired greetings!

Hi Folks this is just another 57 chevy again.. anyway i built this kit way back in the day (87-88) for the first time ,like most here as far as i can recall i never built the thing factorystock back then ,but more of a at the time current sreetmachine with the blower ,slicks Cragars and those strange flame decals now 25ish years later things have changed a bit in terms of taste and skill so after getting the chance to buy an original non reissued 1/12 57 Chevy i decided to do it all again these original kits aren't really easy to find overhere,,so i was glad to find one in an online shop for 25 euro's which is about 20 Usd? somebody had already started sticking pieces of the engine and tub together with somekind of household glue (and lot's of it too) also most of the kit chromesprees had lot's of red styrene bleeding through making most of them useless to top it all ,,the body had been cracked...i guess had been stepped on in the past or something after all this i really didn't feel like doing the ###### thing anymore ,but after a week or so i pulled myself together and began work carefully refitted the 283 and painted it 'chevy engine orange', started with sanding of big blobs of glue somebody used for the windowwinders... they must have been wearing sunglasses or something .. shot a few coats of primer after fixing the crack in the roof.. ditto with the pan and chassis i did a lot of searching for referencephoto's on the net for these cars...but 'real' unrestored 57's barely excist these days so i stuck with resto..and what people who know their bussines told me i hope i sort of hit the spot on this one anyway... the interior finished in gloss red...which didn't happen overnight..,did some flocking too floorpan airbrushed in red oxideprimer and black overspray did some tons of detailpainting on that.. if you people would like to see more ,let me know i hope you like it..the overall part fitment is not 2013 but i'm getting there.. greetingz!

Wanna buy Eleanor?
heinz74 replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i've already got 2 '67 GT500's... in 1/18 Autoart diecast ( both colours)....and one of the fist Eleanor's in 1/18 diecast.. if i was loaded i would certainly want the 1/1 in my garage....although the dutch DMV propably wouldn't clear it for a registration over here i know of 1 existing over here..the guy bought it in the US about 8 years ago..that one is legal ... -
Is it just me who sees the scale tilting towards the wrong side? I understand that a box or package can have something to do with the value of the product inside but nowadays even a tube of toothpaste can somethimes be called 'limited edition' ,just for the hype of it for me it counts what;s inside..like with the Otto's i've shown ..those boxes are all identical except for a small sticker on the side stating the make and model inside frankly ..for me that's enough.. nice to have a huge promotional 'photo of said car with barely dressed women at a beach' on it ,but if the model doesn't even come close to the real thing....they mind as well keep it... in the past a onetime 'run' of any product could lead to insane high value for collectors afterwards.. now however manufacturers seem to reissue everything every couple of years for example..Erlt/Greenlight made a 1/18 diecast of K.i.t.t back in early 2000's..(you know the talking firebird, driven by some curlyhead lifeguard with a alcohol issue)...prices on euro Ebay reached up to 200 euro's for one and guess what....it's now available again..for around 65 euro's..sure it's not a 2001 ..but nobody would know any different .. also by reissuing a kit over and over and over again ,one would think that the cost for a new issue would shrink drastically? like i said at the beginning ,at least what i'm trying to say..if tooling and design is so steep..like many have said before...than why would a modelcompany throw expensive box art on top of all that can't be no fun in that.. and if designing (3d or not)..is so expensive..why is anyone making or selling transkits or resin models at reasonable pricing? have i lost the point along the way?
-
kinda have to comment on this... maybe the license from manufacturers is the problem.. but more or less the same subject..overhere in Europe ,France to be excact we have a company called OttoMobile basicly it was 3 students trying to get a degree in 3d scanning..which they did they started out with cars..meaning the makes and models from everyday cars..give or take some faster versions of them all of them are resin models in 1/18-1/12 scale.. finishing a Renault Clio Williams in 1/12 scale which is-was downright frightfully accurate for their graduationproject.. it was recieved amongst collectors so well they started designing other cars as well ,more or less on demand Now 4 years later they have a lineup of al sorts of Euro cars ,all more or less limited to 2000-2500 units. i have some of them .. as you can see ,they are not thrown together..the paint is flawless.and all the badges are on there.. yet the price for a 1/18 resin is 'only' 65 euro's.. the only thing i can think of in terms of low cost ,is maybe the simplified boxart with these ,just plain white carton.. i reckon you pay about 20-30 euro's for a 1/24-1/25 modelkit which is just a lot of molded styrene with a decal sheet..and fancy boxart.. so is it all down to the rights then?....how does this work?.. btw..check http://www.otto-models.com/...you'll see what i mean..

You sure about that Richard?hardtail? hahaha..doesn't Ridderkerk have 'straatklinkers'and 'verkeersdrempels' the Suzuki is nice though..fun and affordable...i had a Suzbike in the past...GSX 1100rr..with Yoshimura exhausts and camshafts, Dynojetkit..had a topspeed of just over 320km/h..a 1988 model..the last of the 'no mercy for the rider' kind..no handling or brakes just 180+ hp on the rear tire

i guess building cars from the last years of the fifties are always gonna be somekind of headache the amount of chrome on them is enormous.. i just finished a 57 bel air in 1/12 scale..from a 1986 Monogram kit..and this to was a handfull but yours came out sweet ...i love it..
-
Hi folks, i guess the car needs no introduction.. it's an old kit from 1985 which i bought online a couple of months ago fitment was vintage also with some issues ,but i guess it came out fine paint is Tamiya rattle can over Duplicolor automotive primer.. i built it pretty much boxstock except for plugwires and some adjustment to the hood..(made it 1 piece so it could be de/attached).. i built it before when i was a kid...don't even wanna think how it looked back then greetz!

International builders community question
heinz74 replied to gtx6970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like i've mentioned before..modelling here in Holland (Netherlands).in terms of cars isn't all that big it doesn't really help considering the fact that we never really had US cars over here.. sure hearses were mostly US like Caprice's and such..but being close to 40 years old i can't really recall ever seeing a 68 Charger R/T in the flesh except for shows and such.. Ferarri's and Lambo's have a following over here .. fact is that there aren't many really nice euro cars in 1/24-25 made by the big manufacturers like R-M in comparrison to 'your' US cars.. 1/18 Diecast is much bigger and there are a couple of really great stores over here having lots of great models in stock like AutoArt,Minichamps,Otto.Norev etc..and most is sold through mailorder most aftermarketparts i buy for 1/18 i buy straight from Germany ,like the wheels of 1 of my ///M3's see photo 1/18 Autoart with 18inch BBS RS/GT Anyway ,there is a hobbystore nearby for me ,but that's mostly R/C , i usually drive to the city of Antwerpen which has a hobbystore ..and they carry just about anything i need...a lot of tools and kits (mostly modern, new stuff)and some magazine's combining that with my girl's shopping for clothes and shoes ,i just turn it into a day of fun for us both.. can't be bad... -
Oh my god!!..i guess i've got my work cut out for me.. out of this world..that's about all i can say..unbelievable..

Anyone have any good snow pictures today?
heinz74 replied to rmvw guy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
same here in Holland..hasen't been this cold in March (just shy of April) ever since 1952! I'm really getting tired with it ..like those 'marines' in the back of the carrierplane towards the end of Diehard 2..;L've seen enough #<¥×¤ing snow to last me a lifetime... i feel the same way by now... -
yeah that's nice..you got the colour right didn't you.. it looks a little Eurospec..but then again ...no..those wheels wouldn't catch on over here guess it's a little 'been there ,done that' but imagine a set of BBS RM-RS on it.. i know of the m20b27 engine ,it was called the ETA engine over here 2,7 litres in capacity with 125 hp but buckets of torque..some guys over here build them theirselves out of a b25 shortblock and diesel cranck..(correct me if i'm wrong)giving 175+hp in the end original it was issued in the e30 325E or the e28 525E (E meaning Economic) another popular conversion is the m30b35 engine out of a early e34/late e28 535i..but its noseheavy in an e30 ...yet unleashes horrific torque..also very thirsty .. regarding the 4 cylinders..,well i drove all of them (sometimes back to back)..and they are not sluggish a 318i m40 can keep up with a m20b20 if pushed..while feeling like a much lighter car at the same time we also had the rare 318IS..m42b18..135-140 hp..which people like to call the 'baby M3'..and in a way it is..it screams about just as hard..response is great ,sometimes with 200000+km's on the clock even if i was not to have my current e30 i would gladly like to own one..but real ones are rare ,being only produced in '89-'90.. but for now..i'll just keep mine..and do with it what comes natural..driving it ,and enjoying it (i always take the long way home) and if asked to..scare the pants of younger and more expensive cars..maybe even drop a M52b28 in someday..now that would be fun...
