heinz74 replied to freshawk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
does somebody have more info on this? they sure didn't come together overnight..looks like they were made in about the same (couple of ) year(s) very cool indeed.. -
this really nice ..very clean build..one would almost say that it is much bigger say 1/12 or 1/8 scale.. keep up this work!

Mechanical mistakes when building
heinz74 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
could i just say that sometimes getting things wrong in the smallest details this time not a floating alternator or strange firing order, but say the colours of different parts underneath a car or even the shape ,size or manufacturer sure there's ton's of reference material on the net..but it's easy enough to Google for a part and get 4 different styles or colours for it you could be so sure of yourself and subject ,and than a judge tells you that the coil on your engine is supposed to be red instead of black ..just because he swears it's that way on a '67 ..just because he had one of those cars brandnew back then... and you just copied it from fotomaterial..not knowing otherwise... and no i don't build for shows or competitions...(we don't have em over here) -
what can i say.. it looks fantastic in every way, like the way you build these cars to..no hocus pocus ,just a clean model without flaws

like i said before.. the effects will only be noticeable after years and years of constantly being exposed to the stuff worst things that CAN happen is a desease called OPS..organic pshyco syndrom..that means something along the lines of .memory loss..trembling..mood swings..etc kinda like years and years of drug and alcohol abuse in some ways i guess drinking some 2 pack paint speeds up the process no end..but you didn't mean that. i know of people who worked with the worst stuff out there like the Epoxy primers and hi build marine materials in the worst possible conditions.. some of them got floored years ago..and some of them still walk this earth like nothing happend..kinda like smoking i guess..some people smoke 2 packs a day and live to be 100.and some develop lungcancer before reaching 30.. in short all paints and solvents are NO vitamines..and everybody reacts different to them..just protect yourself as much as you can ,and you'll be fine..

having been an professional carpainter for 20+years..and worked with the 2pack stuff in all it's shapes and sizes..(not any more) i'm guessing for the best finish possible there is no way around it.. if we are thinking healht issues here..are any of you guys spraying 7-8 models a day in a poorly ventilated room?..for years on end? i'm thinking not...so if you use it through say an airbrush or a 'jambgun'(like i do).wearing a P3 respirator in a well ventilated enviroment only 1-2 a month...you are likely to become more sick from bad cooked BBQ'd chicken.. Enamel paint is terrible for really nice results ,sure there are people who get great results from it..and also sell you a 3 DVD pack while you are at it..but i do'nt like it..you need a dehydrator and all that to get it to dry..polishing it is a nightmare etc.. Tamiya (semi)acrylic..out of the rattlecan gives good results but the baseprimer coat needs to be flawless it's not even close to being forgivving whatsoever...and it absolutely hates everything else on top of it.. thinking you've got that '68 charger just sitting nicely without orange peel or dust and the thing is all spiderwebbed after a month or 2..just because you sprayed some Duplicolor clear over it ,for gloss sake.. i try to get the best in scale shine on a model possible..which in an 1/12 model is not that easy and worse than 1/24-25.i see lot's of peeled models that if they would be real you could use the roof or hood for storing eggs.. my 57 Chevy was painted in Humbrol or Revell when i bought it..and after i stripped it it was primered with automotive Duplicolor primer ,then wet sanded with 1200 grit and shot with 3 coats of automotive Standox 2 pack paint after 2 weeks of curing i polished out the little bit of orangepeel and trash it had with 3M automotive polish ..and that's it..a mile deep shine that will last forever.. considering i'm not driving it anyway..

Mechanical mistakes when building
heinz74 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i agree... but there are a lot of kit's out there that aren't realistic even when built boxstock check out the rideheight on the new Shelby mustangs..that's not right ..is it? some things are virtually impossible to fit ,like radiatorhoses and such.. and another example..those 3/1 kits of the past..'strip' option with a blower and stock exhaust headers?.. 4 speed on the floor..but the kit doesen't come with a clutch pedal.. floating alternators..decals for a small block Chevy airfilter saying '396',paint codes in the instructions that never end up looking like the real thing it's not always the builders fault..and if you don't know any better -
Revell Customer Service
heinz74 replied to Rick Schmidt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
is revell germany also this great?.. i need some 1/12 Shelby discbrakes...have got the kit itself but i don't want to destroy it just for that.... -
you sure this is a snap kit?...man that looks good...

thanks for the positive comments all overhere it's a hard kit to get at..it doesn't show up often..and finished now people think its a Diecast.. i still have one left which i bought some time ago, it's the version that only builds a stock '57 (blue car in the box art, no 7489) i'm thinking about doing that in red with the Cragar wheels on it ..we'll see. and sjordan2 it's not an aquarium..it's a 1/12 Diecast displaycase from a company called Premium Classixxs it costs more than the kit to start with..but hey?.. thanks All!
-
it looks great..a 57 eats up a lot of BMF i guess... i myself will have to do the small scale once..i believe the Revell kits are better...but looking at yours ,i kinda wonder why? you get a free bottle of Jack with a Revell?,..cause i think AMT nailded it, i see no flaws in it Nice build!!

Sjeezus...ik zie dit nu pas..shame on me. this looks so real..in some pictures it even has a sinister look to it..must have taken lots of time an reconsideration at some point it almost got me wondering about doing something similar myself but, A..i haven't got the skills B..i only build 1/12 ..so it would take a whole bedroom.. but keep up the good work..you're taking this to 'modelbrouwersdag' ?...whatever that is...

Tamiya's 1/12 Caterham........Their best model (I Think)
heinz74 replied to traditional's topic in Model Cars
looks lovely ,while not beeing a subject i would build.. i stil like the detail on it, the coilover suspension is great..i have to admit i've never seen this kit in real life before.. Donkervoort produces these cars overhere in Holland as a kit car loosely based on a Caterham .. they come with the 20valve Audi TT engine or the S3 block ...or any other you desire i guess extremely fast with near unrealistic handling... very nice build! -
posted this in the 'big boys' section, but never really finished it till recently it's the original 3in1 kit from 1986 i bought (salvaged) as a glue bomb.. it cam e with a cracked body, missing parts, faded chrome...and lots and lots of household glue in ALL the wrong places took lots of hours to (re)build..and detail and plumb in brake and fuellines.. i'm guessing it came out Ok ,,, the paint is automotive Standox,,i never used BMF so all the chrome is Alclad.. a shot of the interior...with flocking for carpet etc etc... and for keeping it free from dust and pets..i got a huge displaycase for it in which it will remain for the rest of it's life i sure had fun ,looking online for reference and all i hope you like it ,it's my first attempt at a big scale.. greetings!
-
i've got one of these too.. it's molded in red ,full of flash and mold lines.. it's gonna be a lot of work to get right..especially in 1/8 scale everything shows one way or another, it's also almost the same in detail as the average 1/24-5...(then again this stuf is old) but i like the colours on yours.. a fresh breath from ever black or red... i'm curious about the finished thing...(could use some inspiration on mine)
-
love the color also..it;s nice to see something different from the ever reapearing Konablue etc i guess the only thing making it a dark model is the fact it has dark wheels...and the surroundings and atmosphere in the photos are slightly dark... other than that it's the usual way you build a model...like absolutely flawless... i have one lying around too...but first the 1/12 69 z/28 ...a kit you are probably familiar with?
-
No.. not the gt500's tires .together with the rims their overall diameter would be way to big..and evenso more unrealistic they are tires from a toy flip-over car.which scales out in about 1/14-15..i bought the thing at the local Toy Champ the tires are narrow enough to fit the standard wheeltubs ,which is fine should i ever feel the need to convert back to standard wheels 1/10 R/C wheels and tires are way to wide for 1/12 and even way to tall to ever look Ok so wheelwise in 1/12 there is really not much choice out there.. geting the Camaro to sit low enough will be the next struggle...but that will be solved in the end too
-
i think i'll be going this route for now...wheels in Alclad chrome..body colour gunmetal(ish).. that will work...and if the Foose edition ever gets over here...maybe i'll try that too ..or a stock Z/28...
-
considering this was Monogram's 'best' 1/12 kit up to now.. including the Foose ,Coddington ,whatever..parts with the ability to build stock wouldn't hurt sales 1 bit looking in the wanted section it seemes to pop up quite often..even more than the 57 or the Vette loosing the past Strip/drag options in former issues of this kit..if wanted someone out there probably has these parts lying around if needed.. And if everybody hates the newer design on an old car ...as in modern drivetrain, wheels ,paintscheme.. why was the Eleanor Mustang (Caroll don't hate me for saying this)..such a big hit and even copied to death in 1/1 and 1/18 Diecast? it wasn't even a real Shelby...but most people didn't care and loved it ..me too
-
i'm currently building the '69 Camaro 3in1 version called street machine.. it doesn't contain the Z/28 hood/bonnet stripes at all ..which i'm not happy with so i'm kinda hoping they WILL include these in the Foose version ,as to being able to build stock cause for the life of me i wouldn't know where to get these over here.. i'd also would like to see the Year one Foose design..but i guess retooling it all would be way to expensive in the end..

on the other hand the 'old' Miami Vice black Daytona...was based on the correct car from the series a kit car with Corvette parts..instead of the real Ferrari also i don't think Foley's Nova was anywhere near an SS model..even if they did base it on the basemodel from the movie..they still had to create all the dents and the rust that was on it... still a great movie though..love the scene in the Beverly hills police office with Foley ,Bogomill and Taggert... Foley;..'is this the man who wrecked the buffet?'... Taggert;..not so loud Axel.. 'what can he hear me through that wall?... (everybody)..YES!! He can!!
