  1. myself ,i never 'got' the thing about rat rods or aircooled ratted VW's.. i just can't get behind the fact that one would invest thousands and thousand of dollars/euro's chassiswise -enginewise while the outside looks like something that's been lying in a forrest somewhere for years... obviously it's to 'shock' people in a way ,because it's still a driveable car which nobody expects.. i've seen them at shows and meetings and such and they allways gather a crowd..but i always have mixed feelings about why? novelty? beeing different just to be different? i'm not saying that the people who built them aren't skilled enough to build an entirely finished show car ,but why don't they ? if you go through all this trouble why don't you? i just don't get it.. maybe i like an old car with a great engine/chassis and a mile deep paint job too much..maybe because i know what it takes to achieve that and keeping it that way.. other than that ..like i said ..i don't get the whole hype/style ...
  2. Minichamps sell GT's in all colours..in 1/18 diecast which is very nicely detailed.. diecast is big in Europe...much bigger then building kits
  3. this in all honesty isn't the first model i've built.. but before my two large scale models i have been upgrading 1/18 diecast models which are mostly 70's and 80's euro cars the kind of cars we used to drive over here.. in my teens i've built a lot of 1/24-25 kits..but when motorcycles got my intrest i stopped building i always wondered how my teenage models would look nowadays..something like what comes out the back of a horse i recon building large scale is a lot different then the smaller scales..sure there is a lot more detail to be had..but every flaw paintwise or assembly is also magnified.. having been a 1/1 bodyrepair man and mechanic for more than 20 years..i work on them in a way one would do on a real car in the paint departement.. automotive primer and topcoats sprayed through a small paintgun and normal Duplicolor Acrylic rattlecans...occasionaly i use a Tamiya rattlecan for smaller parts but really they cost way to much and don't like other acrylic paints (cracking) i never use Enamel paint because i don't like the stuff..it takes forever to really dry,it's allmost impossible to brush on smooth and even then it's way to soft afterwards gluewise i only use superglue and 2 part epoxy..never modelglue or anything like that.. use Tamiya acrylic paint instead..and keep brushpainting to a minimum..spraying most parts is still much better the rest of it is just time , patience , online research..and building as clean as possible..if something doesn't go according to plan walk away and leave it be ,try again tomorrow (or next week),don't set impossible goals it;s not 'American HotRod' in which they restore a 32 Ford in 2 weeks..fighting the agony and deadlines but then again what works for me might not work for you..
  4. Cruise did drive a 66 shelby mustang in war of the worlds.. i guess that's all the similarity he'll ever have with Caroll.. imagine Cruise having a texas accent.. knowing from what i've read about Caroll himself .it was a real character in the 60's..not your average guy..
  5. the same with the 5 spoke Cragars in the 57 Belair kit...they also look way to small... still looking forward seeing the first photo's of this 'new' kit.. will wheels and tires and decals be all that's new?..i wonder
  6. Thank you people ,for all the positive feedback in time i will build me a stock one in red ..i'm also kind of curious if the Foose kit that's coming this year will still include all the stock parts thinking the big GT500 sells for small money overhere (about 55euro's)..the 'new' Camaro should be less expensive for me than buying and shipping a vintage Z28 kit from the USA we'll see....first the ancient '65 Corvette in 1/8 which is sitting on my garageworkbench now..Man that's one huge kit! by the way ...nobody noticed the rearbumper on my 69?
  7. i guess everybody on this forum knows this kit..and by now a lot have built it i was looking for this kit for some time but they are not so common over here ,but after a year or so i found one on german Ebay.. always wanting to build me a large scale Z/28 ,i was a little dissapointed discovering that in this issue called 'street machine' (2816)..the kit doesn't include any of the Z/28 stripes.. so i packed it back up and kinda forgot about it.. a few months later i got me some inspiration and started of anyways..i don't stash i build.. this is what i ended up with... knowing that not everybody likes the restified/pro touring thing..im sticking my neck out.. the colour is Mini/Bmw i had leftover on my workshopshelf from a paintjob done on a real Cooper S normal automotive Standox bascoat with 2 comp clearcoat...and i didn't feel the need for polishing afterwards the stripes are some normal black basecoat which i had real fun masking.(not) i didn't wnt to change a lot of the cars original set up ,like butchering the big 427 Corvette for its engine so i stuck with the original small block... although the Z/28 came with a high revving 302..i 'pretended',this one has a 350 with the super expensive crossram intake manifold ... although i did add some brake and fuel lines etc ..this kit is pretty nice as is ,even if it's an old issue unlike my 57,no factory overspray this time..restified remember?..pretty much boxstock except for the Bilstein shocks... mostly stock Z/28 inside except for the wheel and gauge pod instead of the AM radio the discbrakes are from Revell's GT500 kit...wheels are Ebay... by the way this was the first time ever i used BMF on all the chrome trim except the bumpers ..they were damaged in the last 20 years anyways..the antenna is a piece of steel rod... all the scripts/emblems are the Modelcargarage PE set which is a gift from heaven..drybrushing these things at this scale is near impossible .. i hope you people like it...it took me 3 months to build in the limited free time i have.. still i'm hoping to find a real 1/12 Camaro kit..and build one stock..my guess is they will look nice together... this will probably find it's home in the same vitrine like my 57 Belair.. considering i only plan on building 2-3 large scale cars a year it'll suffice next up it's a 1/8 '65 Corvette!..
  8. i'd rather have an Eleanor copy for that kinda cash..with a new crate big block ,disc brakes 5 speed and all round independent suspension.. maybe not as original by now..but who cares?
  9. looks like something from Discovery's Chop Shop...
  10. be glad you guys got those cars over there.. some euro cars are a lot lot worse.. i've once changed the cambelt on a Delta Integrale..it took me a complete weekend thinking back ..i should have ripped the entire engine out..just to get at the parts
  11. nice model..really clean build.. but the WOB licenseplate?..it stands for Wolfsburg...As in home of the largest Volkswagen factory in Germany....OOPS!
  12. just great ,really great..love this story ,i guess she also doesn't have an Iphone? i was just wondering ,mechanicly it will probably be fine ,but how did she keep it rust free all these years?..
  13. go easy on it.. get it back to original as much as you can..don't lower it too much ,it might look great sitting on it's exhaust ,but it'will drive like a wheelbarrow.. get some nice 'period' alloy's for it like the BBS rm's or some Azev A's etc..never bigger then 16's ,if funds permit a nice respray in original LY3D with clearcoat over it ..and maybe original Recaro seats from an Edition one .. these cars are becomming more and more difficult to come by even more so without being driven in to the ground etc and when restored right and maintained well will last you a lifetime.. don't worry to much about the 8v GTI engine..you could soak it in salt water ,throw it of a cliff, put it in a freezer ,dump it in the desert,..put it in a car ,hook it up and it will start time and time again.. i have had a fair share of MK1 GTI's (1,8l) in the past ,sometimes i would visit Club GTi events in England drive to the ferry on Friday ,rev the nuts of them all weekend (keeping up with much faster cars ) ,get back on the ferry on Sunday ,and drive it to work on Monday apart from 1 broken fuelpump it never gave up.. believe me you could have done much worse for a first car..
  14. i have 1 too.. but it's an 1/18 from Autoart ..i have a white one but they were availlable in Moonstone blue also great work on yours!
  15. it is finished for a while now (check Big Boys section under my topic) and altough my kit is a lot bigger then 1/24-25..i just used the same 2 pack paint for the chassis as i did for it's body i just used my airbrush instead of my normal jambgun for the chassis and just mistcoated the egdes and wheelwells..after i painted the whole chassis in red oxide primer it probably isn't completely 'in scale' but it does the trick..i guess with a spraycan it's not possible like your kit by the way..keep it up
  16. it's really simple for me.. most classic cars look awesome especially muscle and late 50's..but most of them while sometimes having plenty horsepower don't handle steer or brake at all most modern cars look plain ugly or all the same...but most of them are a great drive .. combining these 2 worlds ,if done tastefully ,is a great opportunity to create a really nice machine i've always more or less did this with my own 1/1 cars ..starting with an 69 Opel Kadett with a modern 2,0 litres feul injected engine and newer chassis and drivetrain.. next up a VW Golf (rabbit) MK1 with a 200hp g60 engine and huge brakes and modern suspension..and now a BMW e30 3 series with a modern 24v engine and modern suspension.. people always think i drive a nice old(er)car..and that it still drives like one with all it's shortcomings...but that not the case ...not by a long shot.. that why i also like a '69 Camaro with a 572 crate motor and powersteering /aircon etc... it may look '69 but drives and handles '09...
  17. i know it's been argumented a milion times ..and not much photo's of 'new' unrestored 57 excist but they were supposed to have bodycolour overspray... this is how i did mine..(1/12 ancient Monogram kit).
  18. i like what you did to this kit...it looks great turning it into a semi 1990 model and all that.. but Revell really did a bad job on this subject...i know a lot of the US guys on this forum complain about some US car kits that are way off but for me this one is the winner ...and than some.. in your case the box art represents a 1986 8v in tornadored ..and even that drawing isn't accurate..and the upholstery decals are not that of an early 8v GTI..(not even close) the engine is so bad in this and miles of from the supposed 112 hp ev engine code 8v engine.. the body is also much to toylike and the roofline is way of.. this kit was later reissued as a 16v ...and it had the same engine...and THAT is a very big flaw Fujimi also did a Golf mk2 both a 1986 and a 1988...those are much rarer and expensive but 200% better like wat you did with it Tom ...hij kan zo naar MIVW volgend jaar
  19. doesn't seem anything wrong with it...i like the colour and finish..
  20. superbly done!..it's this big scale thing that makes all the effort worth it keep up the good work..
  21. the wheels seem kinda Eleanorish? and i guess getting it to sit as low as the picture in the box art will defenitly cause issues with the exhaust system enginewise?..still a 302 crossram?.. anyway it's still a good thing to reissue it again and i'll be getting one ,all of the older non Tamiya 1/12 stuff is hard to get overhere... it will probably be molded in black so it seems..to bad if an R/S grille isn't part of the deal resincasters make your move!
  22. kinda reminds me about the ZZtop Eliminator kit i once built... i always tought it was a 350 sbc in there...i guess looking closer it's not but what is it ?..beats me
  23. i do'nt know about USA material ,cause we never had much of that overhere but UK BLMC from the seventies really caused nightmares over here 1 Austin Allegro 2 Vauxhall Cavalier 3 Vauxhall Chevette 4 all Sunbeams 5 Hillman Imp 6 Reliant Robin ,,ok for laughs to little i can remember from back then ...and off course some really migraine inducing stuff from France and Italy 1`Fiat 127/124 2 Fiat Uno 3 Fiat Ritmo 4 Alfa Romeo 33 ,155,147 etc etc(about all of em) 5 All Simca's 6 almost all 70's Renaults..(Feugo's.R4's and such)and some of the '80's 7 most 70-80's BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH from Peugeot 8 and last but not least everything ever made by Citroen (yes EVER!)topping it all with my all time Favourite the ONE and ONLY Citroen BX!.... nothing else comes or will ever come close.. (for those who have never seen one...just Google for it)
  24. these cars are not to be seen here ,except for shows/meetings .. but knowing your skills each one will defenitely be spot on.. amazing work ,super clean builds!
