  1. raif, the days of a cheap hobby are over........each build can get quite expensive. paint, supplies, the model itself.....great for some of us that do have a small stash...glad I have.....the ace.........
  2. your Camaro looks terrific, frank, very different and quite contemporary. great work, a.c. the ace.............
  3. skip, you are a walking library of early gasser info.......A or B gas will probably be the order of the day for my build, as I am either going with the Pontiac mill or maybe the buick nailhead from the amt 40 ford kit. I posted my 40 ford gasser back a few months ago in drag racing and under glass sections, and enjoyed building it so thought the 36 ford may make a nice shelf mate for it. my 40 is more of a later 60s into early 70s build, but for this 36 I may go with a car from the ealy 60s---60 to 64 era. either way, I know its going to be fun, and help and info that folks like you have provided makes this hobby the great hobby that we all so enjoy.....regards, the ace....
  4. many great ideas and helpful input from all you guys...a big thanks to everyone, great to have this forum with such good info and sharing friends ...............thanks, boys.
  5. hi Bernard, you are certainly correct..........36 fords seem rare to find in photos at 60s drag events. all that you mention makes perfect sense ...........its a lot easier to find old info on many other 30s coupes for sure. thanks for your input....I will plod along and get this project going on the weekend. thanks for all your input.............the ace....
  6. yes, I am aware of this kits fit issues,,,,,however I actually would like some ideas of a nice color combo on this for a 60s era gasser, and ideas of wheel /tire combos that other builders may suggest. the louvered hoods and flintstone items and such are really not what I had in mind, interesting as all that may be..............thanks, a.c.
  7. hello gents, just got in the round2 36 ford amt new re-issue....I have never built one of these, even after all these years...so I pose to all of you who know and love these cars....any suggestions on color combos, solid color or two tones, for an of - the - era 60s drag gasser.....maybe steel wheels and using white wall fronts and w/w slicks.....any ideas on the do's or don'ts of constructing this ol' girl....appreciate any input, as I would like to make it fairly box stock,,,even using some of the decals in the kit if possible.....many thanks boys........a.c. the ace...
  8. I have always found that some kits are never really intended to build when guys buy them....but many of us want to own them regardless. I feel that if a certain project may feel like its going to be more of a chore or pain in the butt, best to choose something in your comfort zone than end up wasting time, product, and money, on a kit that usually ends up in the half built pile. I also think that many builders avoid certain models to build because they may feel that they are unable to build that kit as well as some they have seen built by other builders that may be more skilled in general . if any or all of these things make a builder feel uncertain, walk away for a week or two, and them pick an easier build. lets face it, any kit can be taken as basic or as far as you want to take it..............just my thoughts a.c. the ace.............
  9. got the original amt hillbilly hauler 34 ford pickup with the pop up display, mib, and the new round2 issue awb 65 mustang funny car...
  10. welcome , jess. looking forward to seeing your builds. regards, the ace............
  11. glad, john, that you said it in that way. this the first time I have ever made a comment about any model company on this forum. I stay away from long, draw out bla bla bla on most subjects I see guys going back and forth about. I guess I am one of those guys who never really ever got used to any car kits that didn't have that made - in - Detroit way about them. I suppose we are all car model lovers for a zillion different reasons....opinions and all.......lol....best to you, a.c. the ace.......
  12. john, my opinions are just that,,,mine,,,and I personally am very old school in most aspects about my models. that's to say that I am well aware that old mpc, amt, and johan kits are not perfect in many ways,...but keep in mind that their designs were cut 40-50 years ago, in most cases. you usually ended up with, and still do, a nice rendition of the vehicle in question. simplicity and down right fun and excitement are sometimes more of a thrill to some of us than repairing, fixing, and already over complicated model kit. with todays high tech world, revell seems to drop the ball more than not,,,,, the slingster dragster kit the exception here. just my thoughts.......a.c.
  13. no one will like this comment, however I have to say, its typical revell.......they never get it correct,,, never back in the day, even way back,...and still to this day. if its not the big 3, amt, mpc, or johan,,,, i'd rather leave anything revell on the shelves for the other guys..............a.c.
  14. hi George, it already was a couple of weeks ago. I got mine from ebay, but the shops should have them now. regards, the ace.......
  15. boy oh boy, glenn, your orange beeper here is drawing comments and attention like crazy ! your cars are soon be on the magazine covers , making us all so envious.............. such well deserved attention my friend,.....the ace..........................
  16. a clean and sharp build, Jason....great piece..............a.c.
  17. we all realize the costs of everything now hurts more than ever, however without the joy of our toys and models to ease our mind of that and all other day to day problems, I think the cost of our models and supplies to build them is a bargain most guys like us can't pass up. I still truly enjoy that xmas morning feeling every time I pop the shrinkwrap on a new kit..............its kind of like the story of the man having his retirement party where all his friends and workmates begin chanting==SPEACH, SPEACH, SPEACH,...and he finally rises from his chair and says...you know, all my life I spent my cash on gambling, booze, and fast women,,,,,and the rest I just totally wasted.......................
  18. beep, beep glenn. your orange honker looks plenty tough. keep up the good work....a.c. the ace...........................
  19. happy to do it, pete. that's what its all about......I appreciate all the great sharing always on this and all our forums, so its nice to help out once in a while . oh, and I intend grabbing a couple more of these kits , maybe three.....all the best, the ace.........................
  20. you are most welcome, alan. that's what our hobby is all about.........................the ace......
  21. hi bob, they sure are,....we are lucky that a company out there is still producing the classic kits we have loved for decades now,,,its exciting again for some of us. regards, a.c.
  22. hi bob, yes, they are. the pic makes it hard to see them, but all 8 have nice chroming and should be useable.... the ace..........
  23. yup, dave, they are. even the original issues from the late 60s were the same, but I think possibly some of the later issues had small rubber tires included. these are useable if you don't have anything else around I have found..........regards, a.c............
  24. I agree,... this one has the great old artwork, and a nice decal sheet as you can see................
