Foil under clear *rant*
AC Norton replied to freakshow12's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
clear coat, usually,,,,over foil,,,never. if a paint job with no clear has even the slightest ripple or orange peel to it,,,the foiling can show a pebbled or rippled look. if your clear goes on nicely, your foil will look perfect if applied correctly. clear looks fake and like a syrup coating over foil imo................the ace.......... -
I wonder if R2 listens ?
AC Norton replied to w451973's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I feel that this and many other threads get a bit long in the tooth,,,and the bitchn' and moanin' about everything truly gets to be just too much. if not the tires, chrome, glass, body, decals, the box, shrinkwrap on the box,,,it never ends. just build something you enjoy, select the best parts you have around for upgrades,,,and fix or live with the rest. its a hobby,,,a toy-related one, not a career,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the ace........ -
looks terrific carl,,,,,,nice combo on all. the purple has that late 60s-early 70s feel, as so many muscle car owners repainted in wild purples as us old guys remember...lol...nice job.............best, the ace....

I'm with you, Gerald, easier to enjoy building them without the heavy lifting of major work,,,lol,,,,,just add water, shake, and presto...a nice, fresh , easy altered wheelbase car...........the ace.. ...oh, I think most of us are excited about the corvair funny....can't wait...

just dynamite....one of the nicest '70 season pro cars ever. grotheers cars were always clean, well prepared, and quick. your piece tells that story perfectly. terrific work..............the ace............

that's a good question,,,,possibly billy gooche has made them at one time, but I don't think he produces decals any more. the originals do show up on ebay from time to time,....but as I recall that sheet always seemed to have breakage problems almost from the get-go, so finding one now in mint shape will be tough. they always seemed to fade out on a darker color as well. best I can remember....good luck finding some,,,the ace........

Curbside models?
AC Norton replied to DoktorDuke's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yes, that ever so lingering building slump. maybe a quick curbside is the order of the day to break me out of for mine......good idea.....may try one...the ace..... -
the recently issued mpc 75dart sport has a driver fig, and you can make him standing as well. also, fujimi made 1/24 drivers back in the 80s thru 90s, possibly still around.....of some very nice male and female drivers, offering various head and helmet options...........hope this helps.....the ace..........

yes, they are easy, yet give a pleasing result if you consider their age and low detail level compared to more modern drag car models. bringing out as much paint detail, a neat paint job on the body, basic wiring, select decals, and you can end up with a piece that packs plenty of fun imo ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the ace...........

scott, they look great,,,,but I am always partial to the amt pickup.....love to build old issue kits too. great work, best,,,,the ace......

Revell 49 Merc Decal Question?
AC Norton replied to slusher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
carl, if you like, put the completed dash and decals in a small, padded envelope, and send them to me. I will do this for you,...and send it back at no expense to you. I enjoy decal and trim work, and am not bad at it . let me know if you want my address and details. if you have other similar work that is on hold as well, send all of it up, and I'd be glad to do this for you,,,,,best, the ace..................... -
funny thing, only 8 of them truly qualify for the one-in-the-same artwork and chassis type. the chevelle, nova, tempest, olds, cuda, falcon, cyclone , and mustang I believe were a so called set. the others stand alone, and the edsel having that bagged box really fits more into that oddity category. I remember a hobby shop local to me cracking cases of the series I mention, and this was that 73-74 era when they were 4 to 5 years old then, and I remember a new case of 12 having one of each, plus doubles on the nova, falcon, cyclone, and cuda. now here in Canada the assortments may have differed from u.s. merchandising. I guess I recall that as my friend and I each bought one, and fought over who got the falcon...lol....he won the coin toss....... ///the ace................................

my bet is that the kats at amt will probably pop out the 65 falcon and 63 tempest awb in their original boxes sooner or later,...maybe if those kats at amt are watching closely, the kit to re-issue would be the cal combo drag team 65 falcon and 64 galaxie,...as we know that should be an easy one to sell by the dozens.....add the new tires, expand the original decals, add tinted glass, and your ready to go.....just a happy thought.......the ace...

that 36 green gasser is simply a knockout...the custom as well. box art bingo at its very best,,,,terrific piece, ron.....best, the ace.....

hi van, happy to share some input, glad you like the review. firstly, I'm certain that with a bit of alteration the front end could come down some. I have built 3 in this series but built them oob , but think I have seen other builds that were lowered. second, the type error is on the mini box, but the kit box ends as well, no less. i'll forgive, round 2 on that one, just glad its back...lol.....best regards, the ace.........

thanks, scott, it really is a nice issue of this one. hopefully round 2 may pop out a couple more from the series sporting original artwork and decals too.............the ace....

I agree, dennis. one may not be enough for some of us....... the ace.................

i'm quite interested in your project, frank. I recently got in the original amt hillbilly hauler 34 pickup in mint condition, with the cardboard display never used. I have a white lindberg one as well, and intend soon to build one stock service wrecker, like you are, the other a hillbillly hauler idea. so far yours looks great, and I am keen to see you complete this ol' gal. regards, the ace...........

scott, this is a great build of a near forgotten car......great subject and a superb build,,,,congrats.........best, the ace......

Alternatives to toxic glues?
AC Norton replied to modelcars87's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would try just a basic painters mask...the small ones that you can get almost anywhere. before wearing it, take a small cloth or even a paper towel , dampen it,... not soaked, with water...tuck that around your nose area, then put the mask on making sure the metal nose clamp is snug as you can get it, and try that. they are inexpensive and I use them maybe 10 times before tossing them out, but in your case, I would use a fresh one for every job. all I can think that may help...........good luck..
