  1. boy, jurgen, for a build with so many terrible shortcomings, that vw sure looks terrific to the rest of us I would say. I hope my next few builds experience similar faults to end up so nice....lol....the ace...........
  2. actually, gene, I use zap for jobs like that. as you know, that bond is the best. even after the epoxy is dry as mentioned in my last notes, I usually apply some zap to hidden areas for extra strong bonding for body to interior, then your sure......the epoxy makes movement and adjustment possible, where zap usually will not.....hope this helps....these amt awb kits are easy builds, just be certain of all your fit and finish, so that all sub assemblies line up properly, and enjoy the ride........ .....the ace
  3. ...if any of this may help....I have found that with the amt awb cars that I have built,,,,the easiest way to fit the final steps together starts with the interior tub being glued to the frame rails,,,,,once dried, I use some 5-minute epoxy on each corner of the interior tub corners,,,that is to say a bit on the rear edges of the parcel shelf,,,and a bit on the front edges where the firewall and interior sides meet. at this point, your glass and any other body components are finished off, so once the body unit is lowered onto the interior/chassis combo...the epoxy will allow a little moving and positioning to align everything to your liking. always remember that your wheelbase also should align nicely, and check to make sure that the rear kick area of the interior is not exposed and visible thru the rear wheel well opening. regular slow drying epoxy works well too, if your not quite sure if everything will fly on the first go-round. the epoxy will just pick off in one or two pieces once dried if you have to try again. hope this may help........the ace...... oh, one other thing...its important that your glass is secured not only under the roof itself, but tight and free of any flash or moulding globs at the bottom edges of the front windshield and the rear glass....if they sag down a little or have flash on them, your body fit will suffer....I use zap a gap to weld those areas to the under body , front and rear....the ace....
  4. that's just killer, chris.......llove it...the ace............
  5. I still have several Tamiya glosses, flats, and clears that were bought in the 1983- 1986 era that are still just fine to use. I just give them a quick stir, and brush away.....the pacta line of brush paints were always great quality that seemed to stay useable for a long, long time....wish I still had some old bottles, especially their silver....the ace... .
  6. can be true....no, it is true. you are correct about the info regarding racing against the 70 chevelle of ray allens....and that didn't work out so well for the 'birds. furthermore, the black and white photo in front of the S-M shop that is posted in this forum, originally appeared in a 1970 magazine article, that I have around somewhere...., notes the SS/F class and joe fisher at the wheel....and that puts that to rest. I was in those staging lanes in 68, 69, 70,71, etc, etc, at WCS events and national events all over the east coast, and at the York event in '70. did you also know that in 70 tim Richards, that's right, tim Richards, ran one of these cars out of a Pennsylvania dealer named KARL GOULD Chrysler Plymouth....in SS/FA, then later in SS/EA . the superbird cars were originally classed as F cars with the street hemi when first built, but were classed to E a bit later in the season to compete with the chevelle of ray allens.....but if you're in Sweden, I don't know anybody that can see that far..............
  7. good for you, frank....always nice to see an award go to a builder who is most deserving, and at the same time is truly thrilled to receive that award......regards, the ace... .
  8. I think its actually michaels,,,,not micheals............
  9. hakan is partly correct ....the original 70 super stock 'bird ran SS/F class in the early months, and S-M parts manager joe fisher drove the car.....................the ace.... ...oh, no console in any version........
  10. that looks great, bill...the color combo is super nice with your decal choices. sure makes me want to start one of the 2 of these kits I bought. looking forward to seeing your car finished...nice clean work....the ace....
  11. I posted my recently built 64 ford mod a few months ago, and must say this one of yours looks great....good color combo and nice general stance,,,,great work.......the ace..
  12. thanks, Gordon, for your nice comment........the ace.......
  13. gene, they are 0.15 by 0.60 brass flatbar...but aluminum will do also. that size is off the package header, so your local shop should be able to get them if they have no stock. worst case scenario, I have more than I will ever use, so let me know if you want some, I can mail some out. just a thought.....the ace.........
  14. hi gene and thanks for your comments, the underside is sprayed with Tamiya light gunmetal,,,from about 15 inches back. that way it has a nice sheen, but not a polished ultra shine look. I use it on various hardware for engines, chassis parts, etc,,as it dries fast, and if used with testors dullcote , you can achive some nice effects. as for the moon tank, its the one in the kit,,but the tray is just plastic sheet that it rests upon,,and the support straps are just K-S brand metal strips just shaped and bent to fit....easy to work with, cheap, and strong too. zap or epoxy clings perfect to it as well. thanks for your interest, gene..the ace......
  15. hi Michael, thanks for your comments, appreciate that very much. well, surprisingly enough all the injection pieces,,,other than the fuel block and lines, are all included in this kit. once the blobs of chrome are stripped away, then cleaned up and fitted properly, you end up with a decent set up once painted and such. for a kit that's pushing the big 5-O in years, it builds a simple yet really neat a/fx'er. I think a lot of parts in many kits are dismissed quickly for many of us to buy something aftermarket, yet with some work and final detail, look just fine in the end result. other than decals, this car is box stock. hope this answers your questions.....the ace......
  16. I doubt that we will see that, however i'm sure good things are coming from rc2...........the ace........
  17. to nicely accent your metallic blue, I would run a dulled silver open wheel on the rear,,,but better still, lots of racers in that era used open vette rallys, for their many varying sizes, and they were everywhere to be had. I can recall many chevy stocker, super stocker, and m/prod cars having this look. the cragars are great, and typical of course, but the rallys do look tough on a 7 to 10 inch slick. just a thought....the ace.. sent a PM as well......
  18. no problem, mark, and thanks for your comments....the ace........
  19. yes, bob, its the katch the kat catch 22 of all time..lol....the ace.........
  20. thanks norman,,,yes , I too remember that great thrill of choose a car kit, and then head over to the lunch bar for a dog or burger, and a shake. kresges, woolworths, and zellers stores up here were the places to go for that feeling...wood floors, and that sweet smell of the bake shop area....sure would be great if shopping for car kits was that much fun today.....the ace...
  21. I am hopeful that at some point round 2 amt may just gear up and dig out some other awb kits that all would enjoy...lets hope...the ace..
  22. absolute mind blower....I usually am not interested in wild customs, however in this case, this build is shockingly amazing. love it, would love to have one ...congrats on a build of builds.......the ace....
  23. outstanding, and I mean just outstanding........the ace..
  24. yes, phillip, I am aware of that......I am the one who did this kit review, and its one of the features that's really nice here....the ace..
  25. I think its been on the downslide for many years now. most younger fellas,,,not all of course, but most, have interests that are not hobby oriented. even though hobby shops still carry the latest models, better building supplies and such than ever, those hobby shops even when considering world wide numbers, are small in number compared to days gone. think of it this way,,almost every department store, dime store, even your local variety and corner stores, carried models, paint, glue, etc. you could even buy kits at some grocery stores. that's because young guys, and even dads were buying and building plastic in record numbers. it was an affordable and fun hobby, whether your interests were cars, military, sci fi,,,you name it. it had a hometown feel to it. local stores sponsored model contests in house on a regular basis, and young or old could enter and enjoy the fun. stores promoted in that way, because it helped the store and all its young customers. once computers, video games, and all the other bling things took over in the 80's, the writing was on the wall for the model hobby...the ace..
