KW Allied Big Boy 90% Done
Mike77 replied to kilrathy10's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Looks great, outstanding work! It almost makes me want to start building those little 1/25 trucks again, but it'd be hard to do after 1/16. -
Proper spelling for DRW pickups?
Mike77 replied to Fabrux's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Agreed. I've never in my life even seen it spelled "duelly". However, if Dennis Weaver had a dually pickup instead of a Plymouth Valiant maybe Spielberg could've called the movie Duelly. But then it wouldn't have been much of a duel. -
Question about the 1/16 Peterbilt 359 reissue
Mike77 replied to Mike77's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, it looks like the Pete reissue (and most likely the upcoming KW reissue) have chrome. They just neglected to remove the reference to the matte aluminum finish from the box art. -
A lot of work there for sure, but rusty fiberglass???

Thanks! I wish it came like that in kit form, but it's just a heavily modified 1/8-scale Monogram '65 Corvette.

Revell is reissuing the 'Can-Do' (Steeps) tow truck...
Mike77 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Don't give up hope. I've been unemployed myself for awhile and I know what it's like to have to settle for being just a spectator in a hobby I've been involved with for nearly 40 years. I was ecstatic about this time last year when the reissue of the 1/16 Peterbilt 359 was announced, but I knew it would be awhile before I could afford to get one. I never knew it would take almost a year before I could afford to get two of the kits to start my latest project. I would love to run out and buy all these reissued 1/25 truck kits that have been coming out just to stash them in the closet for "someday", but it's not possible right now. The kits you want will be around for a long time, and things will get better for you, just be patient. -
We lived in Holiday Hills when it was still being built. I've visited since and I barely recognized it! Later we moved to the corner of Ferndale & Wilson. I remember going to Black's Hardware, but I got most of my model kits at Kmart and Zayre. I was only 16 when we moved away but I don't remember any of the hobby shops there, I'm sure there were a few though.

Thanks for that, it looks like exactly what I need. BTW, I lived in Danville when I was a kid, 1970-1980. Small world!

I'm just getting back into plastic after 10 years and I've started my 1/16 Peterbilt wrecker project. I'll be doing some modifications that will require me to use body filler/putty, and I was wondering what you guys use nowadays. I don't need anything fancy that I'd need a hazmat suit to use , but I also don't want something cheap that shrinks over time and/or eats plastic. Any help is appreciated.

Here's a 1/18 '51 Henry J gasser I did last year...

Monogram 1/16th Kenworth Coming......
Mike77 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The 1/16 Kenworth reissue is definitely the red flat top. -
Revell is reissuing the 'Can-Do' (Steeps) tow truck...
Mike77 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
It looks like the reissue will be the Stepp's tow truck without the Stepp's livery, probably a licensing thing. -
Facebook, not their own website??? Why do they assume everyone's on Facebook?

Ditto. The formula for the majority of Foose's "overhauls" is fairly predictable, two-tone the body and put on some big wheels. The guy has talent for sure, but I don't really see him doing much that other builders/designers don't do. Troy Trepanier's shop is 5 miles from me and I've seen a lot more from him that's outside-the-box. As for the kit, I don't know if it'll be a replica of an actual Foose car or just one that he endorses, but if I had to guess I'd say it'll be the original kit Monogram 1/12 kit with maybe some different wheel & engine parts.

That truck is a lightweight compared to the 1/16 wrecker project I'm starting. -
Revell is reissuing the 'Can-Do' (Steeps) tow truck...
Mike77 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The original kit was based on a wrecker used by Stepp's Towing in Florida, "Can-Do" was their motto... http://steppstowing.com/index.html -

Big Red 1/16 Kenworth
Mike77 replied to Mike77's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I don't want to deviate too far from trucks here, but that GTO was loosely based on Bill Bolin's double-blown '70 GTO. Everyone, even the blower companies, said it couldn't be done, but he proved them wrong. Obviously it was more for show than go, but it worked. He eventually dropped it back to one blower and sold the car. Google "Bolin GTO" and check it out, there are even videos. -
Monogram 1/16th Kenworth Coming......
Mike77 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Hmmm...my bad, I thought this one was in a larger box than the yellow ones. Of course it's been about a dozen years since I had one. -
Here's a Peterbilt I made back in the 90's. It's basically a Revell "Black Magic" Pete in maroon with some accessories added. I had a Beall tanker hooked up to it for a long time. The photos aren't the greatest, they were taken back when cameras used film.
