Salvinos engine mated to AMT transmission and mocked up in chassis.

I agree but if I mess with them the bumper will not look right. I don’t think they are really all that bad. Believe it or not I don’t mind doing this kind of stuff. It’s kinda satisfying to look at it and say see I knew I could fix that.

Forgot the most important mod as far as I’m concerned. Tuck that stupid rear bumper in. I cut about 3/32 of an inch off the rear bumper fairings and moved that sucker forward. Makes a world of difference. Plus it’s correct they always tucked those rear bumpers.

Finally opened a cooler slot in the headlight cover. Set it in its chassis to check tire wheelwell relationship. I previously opened up the wells to match pictures I have of the car.

Next I puttied all that stuff up. Then I noticed the trunk was wrong for the car I’m doing. I had to fill the spoiler groove. I’ll have to make a spoiler. The kit spoiler wouldn’t work with the decals that have to go on the back of the trunk. Also the trunk had no seam where the trunk and filler panel above the bumper would meet. So I corrected that and added a fuel over flow to the right taillight cover. The top groove is where I added plastic to cover the spoiler groove. It will be puttied tomorrow.

Now added bits of plastic to the fenders too replicate the bulges put in them for tire clearance. Added fuel fill to passenger side.

Next I reshaped the frt fenders by bending the nose down slightly. Added a strip to the top edge of the fender. Tapered it in to give the fender more arch. Also reshaped the scallops to bring the frt of them lower. Giving them more arch too.

Now I added a strip of plastic to the bottom of the qtr behind the tire. I felt this area was too narrow top to bottom. Added a strip under the main body too. These cars had a small rocker panel that was missing on the Model. Also filled the fuel fill. Will be moved to the other side per road race car.

Next I sanded the top of the roof thinner above the door and opera windows. It was going up hill. Also the bodylines marked by my tape went uphill. I sanded them till they met my tapeline.

On to the body. This body never looked right to me. Most of its faults looked to be a sanding block away from correcting though. First is the side window area. I brought the door window opening up to be even with the opera window. Next I brought the back of the door window opening back to be even with the door crease. Leaving a swoop forward at the bottom like these cars had.

So this started as s Salvinos Baker Monte Carlo kit. I planned on modding the body a little and building it mostly out of the box. Well things changed quickly. I mocked up the kit chassis and said”I really don’t like the looks of this chassis.” So I looked at my old standby AMT TBird chassis. The way I usually stretch them didn’t look like an option. So I cut two in half in the middle and stretched it that way. Good thing I had a spare bare chassis laying around.

How is one supposed to purchase one of these?

They would have if it wasn’t for Ford brass wanting the Ford badge to be top dog.

The Mercury nose was slightly lower and had better aero than the Ford. The wheelwells were shaped differently too.

Lee Roy drove the Cyclone Spoiler II like my model is and a Torino Talladega like the picture Fairfax posted. The little Johnny Lightning is also a Torino.

They all have the bent up nose. I cut a relief cut on each of the inner fenders do when bending down it goes easier.

Trust me. I can hide the flaws with the camera.

Mark these are not without their faults. Most are easily over come. The 429 engine fit issue is rather easily fixed. The rollcage to floor fit is a little goofy. Nothing a little trim of the crush panel won’t fix. I lower the rear end on all of them I feel it’s too high. The rear bumper fits a little crappy but easily fixed. The worst is the headers. I finally figured those out too. If any of you guys has a question about these I’ll gladly give suggestions. I think once done they look killer.

Another Polar Lights kit built almost box stock. Added PPP tires and some small details.

Oh man Mark, this is sweet!!! I can imagine it would be a slow trip though. Better stuff a 409 in that truck.
