  1. Thanks Mike! Now I need to be a finished building machine! LOL For this specific model of the Ferarri F40, there are no others making the GTE Evo in 1/12 scale - that I'm aware of - there is the MFHiro 1/24 scale kit - for a couple hundred $ - but I have a version on the workbench in that scale, along with a 288 Evo also! There are the 1/12 scale Kyosho diecast street F40 cars - for several hundred dollars - and the Protar street F40 cars also - which go on ebay for around $100-150 Like many I had this monogram kit for years - in the back of closet - because it was cheap, mine was $25! ...but due to it's hideous body, was not up to par for building This build kit is aimed to be used either as a trans-kit, using the monogram chassis, or as combined both kits for making one whole car from, for less than one Kyosho kit!

  4. I call this the "Ugly Duck" build, because of the donor kit we'll be using, the infamous Monogram F40 kit! This kit, like many others, has been sitting in the back of the closet, due to the horrible body, so never intended to be built as is, so instead I decided to use this opportunity to use as a donor, and with some work of my own, make as basis for an affordable transkit, and have a decent looking large scale F40 GTE Evo2 on my shelf! To that end, this will be a "best" possible build, not a super detailed build, given some compromise of the donor used & for reproduction, rather than being an all out scratch build, but I also have planned 2 stages: Stage 1, body/glass/wheels/tires Stage 2, chassis/interior/engine/brakes The basic chassis & suspension of the Monogram kit are half decent, the interior shell usable, and measurements are fairly accurate, but when it came to the body, it's as if they just didn't care about being accurate?! You can see right away how much material has to be removed and altered, and why I call this a "duck", as the nose was 1cm to wide? I was originally hoping to re-use the glass, but once into the build it became obvious that new ones will have to be vacuformed! So, first installments, Enjoy!

  6. Been so busy with summer and work, but now some further progress nearing the completion of this build, and then ready for casting! Rear bumper constructed and completed, Fuel post added to body, Photo comparison of the 1/24 Vector body beside it's 1980's contemporary the Countach, and all the different wheels being readied for the Vector!

Been so busy, but more progress on the build now Entire back clam shell modified, extended aft of wheel opening, widened and channelled as previous posts show, rear engine cover area resculpted and contoured back to upper structure, canopy pillars resculpted for increase angle and match of the corrected windscreen pillars Front clamshell getting extensive changes, the entire nose section was wrong, especially the head lamp enclosures, so being resculpted each, the fender tops contoured correctly, and windscreen opening recontoured Once the main bodywork is done, then will start match up to the lower body sills, which are part of the chassis pan
  8. Daniel, check out the cheap Rubbermaid like food containers at Walmart, Target or dollar stores even, often sold also as shoe containers I get the 6L size is about 14"L x 8"W x 5"D, and often comes in stack of 6 for like $7-8, pretty cheap & large enough for a single model

  11. Love that workmanship, the result looks fantastic! bravo!! I've always loved those older wooden speed boats, the Cris Craft being the best known name of them really!
  12. Yes 169mm, maybe 170mm max, measured twice, mine is an unbuilt kit, no bumpers, just nose edge to tail panel A quick measure of the bumpers is 4.5mm + 5.5mm, so total 180mm = 4320mm (@ 1:1) , short about 4.3mm scaled to the factory given length

  14. Very true ...are they using an existing 'vette C3 chassis in that kit? If so would explain a lot of the dimension differences, as the Fujimi body, from my comparison to scaled photos, measures pretty accurately to the 1:1 car

No problem, that's a good link For weathering, try finding a bunch of photos of rusted Dodges similar, as they rust in certain areas, and in large areas only where the paint has worn through ...sometimes I notice weathering is done in a random fashion, or all over the car, which really takes away from the authentic "rusting" appearance IMO ...with a few good photos, you can identify which areas should have the rust, which shouldn't, which areas to age the paint thin (wet sanded to show factory primer coat below), and that way an even better result to your build!   17. No problem Mike! That's quite a difference, 4mm longer wheelbase = 2496mm - about 3.8" longer than OEM Ferrari - and 13mm longer body = 312mm - about 12.3" longer in comparison! I measured the Fujimi doors, at the waist / molding line, are 43mm Hope that helps!
  18. It's very likely, as you say, that Monogram has distorted the kit body's dimensions to fit an existing chassis, I know they made a mess of the Coyote kit, and also the 1/12 Ferrari kit, both of which I am completely re-constructing!

I measured with calipers to the outside edge of the doors & fender lips for width, and from nose to tail in same fashion - no bumpers - of bare body for length The Fujimi wheelbase is correct, at 100mm The 1:1 Ferrari dimensions are: Wheelbase = 2400mm Width = 1760mm Length = 4425 (most likely includes bumpers in length measure)
  20. Anyone else find their photos are often flagged "file to large"?? I tried even a few pics that I've posted previously, which now won't upload, due to size How small do I have to resize these now? a little frustrating, they are .jpeg already, and not of unusual file size!?
  21. If done with taste & functionality, then yes! Pro-touring cars, by their original intent, were to be durable for long drives, then able to race on the track, otherwise they are "show" cars IMO 19" wheels = yes, 23" wheels = no ground clearance 4-5" = yes, ground clearance decapitating ants = no
  22. I drilled a hole in the top of the little plastic case they came in, so the base sits flat on the shelf, and the bits stand up right, behind the size marking screened on the clear lid, works pretty well IMO
  23. I don't know about the Monogram kit, it is likely modified from real data to fit their existing floorpan ..but the Fujimi kit measures 74mm W x 169mm L
