  1. Thanks for the help , it's greatly appreciated.
  2. Nice, very clean. You got the stance right. Thats hard with some of the Revell funny cars.
  3. I just dug the Dale Earnhardt '88 Monte Carlo out of my stash and want to build a well detailed model ( I won't be going crazy with it though ) I am primarily a drag car modeler, though I have built Stock Cars in the past. I was wondering if anyone has any reference pics of the engine, chassis etc. The decals are ruined ,so I'll be going up to Southern Motorsports and Hobbies to get some new ones. I live about 100 mi from the Childress museum. One of these is in there , but last time I was there ,the hood was closed. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  4. I'll use Jungle Jim as an example again. Between '66 and '68 he went from a square tube chassis , long nose Nova to a shorter Logghe chassis Nova which was a half fiberglass half steel flopper. I don't know exact dates that this and that happened. Point I was making is that things were in a state of transition with a lot of creative interesting innovations happening.
  5. Jungle Jim built his own chassis for his 66 Nova. Some did it this way ,others modified the stock chassis as TarheelRick said. I believe 1967 was the year the Logghe chassis and flopper era began. This time period was a time of experimentation and a lot of wild cars were on the track.
  6. Glad to hear that ! Thank you for the info.
  7. Great to see the Piranha back ( hopefully ,with all the decals and proper front wheels , this time ) just wish they would release the Piranha only with out a bunch of stuff I don't want.
  8. Lot of great info on here. Those pics of the diecast provided by Force helped me a lot. I built thiis kit as a kid when it came out in the 60's. I know I can do a much better job now. I have a couple of questions. Is the drive shaft and rear end chrome , like the 33 Willys and also, is there an off the shelf paint to match this car or will it have to be a custom mix. I thought about trying a mix of Testors laquer , ice blue and the silver. Anyway that was a beautiful car and I want to do it justice.
  9. I don't know how well detailed the GMP diecast Malco Gasser is, but if you could find someone who has one, maybe that would help, good luck.
  10. That kit may not be much by todays standards, But as a kid ,in the 60's, I loved it. I remember my cousin came to spend the night one Friday and we both had kits to build, mine was the Fireball and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
  11. It's about time ! Its getting harder and harder to find that kit, even on e bay
  12. Yea, I think most of them were the Revell type.
  13. I just checked, its out now ! I'm gonna do the orange one, Jungle's last FC
  14. Most don'realize that the old Revell Monza funny car bodies are different from the JJ bodies. The JJ body is called a shovel nose. Closely compare it to other monza FC bodies and you will see the difference. For several years now Competition Resins has had the shovel nose in there coming soon section. Last I looked, it's now at the top of the list. Hope we'll see it soon.
  15. I'm not that crazy about the Piranha, but I liked when I was a kid and it would be nice to have one with the original box art. It is a great parts kit however. Chassis is great for rear engine funny cars , etc.. I'll never understand why the rerelease of a few years ago had the wrong front wheels and missing decals.
  16. There were also versions with the straight axle inside the frame rails, different types of torsion bars , etc.
  17. Check out John Teresi's build of the Mongoose Corvette Funny Car . He changes the front of the chassis of a Revell chassis to one of the later versions.
  18. You'll probably have to mix and match. The Tommy Ivo dragster has a nice engine and valve covers. Blower hat is'nt too great though. That twin engine dragster "Two Much " has the same engine. The old Revell funny car and dragster kitshad nice blower hats.
  19. I did this one entirely from my imagination. It was done with Liquitex and Grumbacher acrylics on gessoed board.
  20. This is mind blowing ! The average person, looking at these pics, would think he was looking at a real car. I'm downloading all these pics and will use them as reference for years to come. Can't wait to see this thing finished.
  21. great job ! It's about time for a rerelease of this one.
  22. I have never had the opportunity to meet Mr, Keeler. I would love to ask him how he came up with the idea for Dodge Fever. What were his influences ,etc. I would really like to hear why he decided on a monocoque chassis . Back then ,as a 12 yr old ,I had no idea what a monocoque chassis was. It is interesting that this was several years before Mickey Thompson or Barry Setzer tried it in the real world. Along with Jim Keeler, Hank Borger and Don Emmons greatly influenced my model building in those days. I was also amazed by the work of Richard Carroll, but I had no idea how he built the stuff he did. That guy was truly in a class by himself.
  23. I still have the original magazine with these articles. Jim Keeler was a man ahead of his time His series of articles on building Dodge Fever 2 still amazes me every time I look at them. I learned to detail dragster and funny car engines from his articles. I use to amaze my friends with the skills I learned from those magazines. LOL
  24. Great job ! i have'nt thought about this kit in years. Seeing it brings back so many memories of the time I built it as a kid.
