  1. The last decals that I cleared with Testors One Coat was Revells Hawaiian funny car. I cleared the large white stripes so they would have the same gloss as the rest of the body. I had no problems. I went through a phase when I cleared all my decals, but now I don't. It usually isn't necessary. Slixx decals are so thin that most will never notice one way or another. To each his own, but to me , it's just another door for Murphy to come through.
  2. Aloha Pete, Great job. Beautiful paint. It's amazing what someone with great building skills can do with an old kit like that.
  3. I've had older Slixx decals that had been exposed for a long time, crack. The only new ones that I've ever had that problem with was the Barry Setzer Vega funny car set. I was applying that long yellow stripe and it broke in two places. I managed to put it together and you couldn't see the seams unless you looked real close.
  4. I think Fremont went out of business years ago.
  5. Great work !
  6. Thanks for the nice comments. Many of my models start out as drawings. I just wish building the models came as easy as the art. LOL
  7. Here's a watercolor and ink rough of a piece I'm working on.
  8. This was before Jungle Jim met her. All that happened in the 70's.
  9. I reduced these too much the first time.
  10. Here is an article on Jungle Jim's 69 Nova when it was brand new. Enjoy.
  11. I'm about to start on this kit and I have experimented with different paint. The best I've come up with this . I use Testors One Coat Lacquer a lot so I painted a body with One Coat Diamond Dust, followed by a light coat of Icy Blue. It came out pretty good. When spraying the Icy Blue ,spray just enough to cover the body. If you spray to much , it will get too dark. It would probably be easier to spray the Icy Blue with an airbrush, for better control, but Igot pretty good results with the can.
  12. Beautiful model. Great paint and decal combination.
  13. Great model. I really like the paint combination. I think the tank was put on the driver's side to put more weight on that side. Often times drag cars pull that wheel off the ground because of engine torque.
  14. Looks great ! detailing and stance are just right.
  15. Dale Jr. has never been in the National Guard either. What's that got to do with anything. Tony does a lot to promote the Army and the troops love him. He is also one of the nicest guys to ever sit behind the wheel of a Top Fuel Dragster. Some are one thing in front of the camera and another off camera. I've seen Tony talking to little kids in the staging lanes while preparing to get in that car and go 320 mph, giving those kids memoriesthat will last a lifetime. In my opinion he's right up there with Garlits, Force, Petty, Dale Sr. etc. He's one of the greats.
  16. If you buy it in the store, it's $ 34.95. Amazon has it new for $21.09.
  17. Tony Schumacher has won his eighth Top Fuel championship ! Tony is a great champion and a great representative for the sport of drag racing.
  18. I just found this book at BAM and looked through it. This is an awesome book for anyone with an interest in vintage drag cars. It has dozens of drag cars that have ben restored and with many of them thereare pics of the restoration process . The book includes Jungle Jim's 69 Nova, the Motown Missle, the Sox and martin Duster, Gas Rhonda's long nose Mustang (there's a great pic of the chassis of this car) and many others. I'm ordering mine from Amazon. It's cheaper there.
  19. Aloha, Pete. Great job. I've always loved that kit. I'm glad they brought it back. I lived in Hawaii for three years while in the Army. I always miss that place this time of the year. Getting cold !
  20. Yea, that would be great . Thanks.
  21. The decals are on the Slixx Home Page. Scroll down and you will see them on the right side of the page, between The Wild Willie 1/16 FC decals and some Bill Grumpy Jenkin's decals. They are listed with the new releases.
  22. This is a great kit. I wish Round 2 would rerelease it. The best thing , to me , is the chassis. You could build a fleet of fuel altered using this chassis under Fiat, Bantams, etc.. I just started a model of the Psycho mustang which used a fuel altered chassis, and I'm using a modified Wild Willy chassis. With some added details, this kit can be a real showstopper.
  23. Slixx just rereleased their decals for this kit. Both releases of the kit had " Winged Express " in yellow. On the real car, this lettering was gold leaf. The Slixx decals are gold leaf. The slixx decals also include the white pin striping. Also on this sheet are decals for Borsch's Charger funny car. I have included pics of my favorite version of this car. At one time it did have the spoked front wheels, although they are different from the ones in the kit you spoke of.
  24. Great job on a great old kit !
