  1. I just got a text from a friend saying that the Don Garlit's Wynn's Charger is on the shelf at our local hobbyshop. This is a great time to be a drag car modeler. Thanks Round 2 !
  2. I stopped going on the other magazines forum because of this kind of nonsense. The guy made a mistake. Enough already.
  3. I think that the diecasts had a lot to do with the demise of the Top Fuel and Funny Car kits. This is daydreaming ,but I would like to see Revell put out some generic Funny Car and Top Fuel kits. Maybe a couple of funny cars with modern bodies and chassis, and a top fuel car with the same updates. Release them with fictional decals like they did with the Dart Super Stock kit. This way they wouldn't have to worry about licensing. Slixx and others could go to town putting out decals. This would make life much easier for those who want to build modern nitro cars. Anyway, that's just my two cents worth.
  4. Sorry. Here they are.
  5. here's a few more.
  6. Beautiful model. Great pics too !
  7. Great work. I just used the Tamiya Pearl clear for the first time and it looks great. I remember my dad buying this kit for me at the old Kress store in Lancaster S.C. I was fascinated by the box art and the box art on this whole series. Two things I remember about that Kress store . The model cars, and the burgers .
  8. I don't know why I thought the 80's chassis were shorter. I stand corrected.
  9. Your question is a little confusing, but maybe this will help. The latest funny car releases (1/25 scale ) from Revell are the Hawaiian and the Chi Town Hustler. The Hawaiian had a Logghe chassis.which was common `with many funny cars of that era. I think that the Hustler had a custom built chassis with it's off set engine driver set up. The last series of Revell funny cars before these two was in the ninties. This included the Mooneyes funny car, Cruz Pedregon's McDonald's car, etc. I think these all had the same chassis. The narrow ones much like the funny cars of today. Revell funny cars of the eighties ( Don Prudomne, McEwan's 57 chevy that you mentioned ) had a similar chassis that was a little shorter. The Revell funny cars of the seventies ( Jungle Jim, Gene Snow, etc. ) had the same chassis. I think it was the Don Hardy design. The recently released Hawaiian in 1/16 scale has this same chassis design. I hope this helps. If I have made any mistakes on this, I hope some one will correct me.
  10. There are lots of photos of this car on google.
  11. Good job! Those Polar Lights chassis can be a pain too.. I always liked the color scheme on the C&H funny cars.
  12. The Upright tank in front was the fuel tank. Those hoses on later funny cars that Mitch P was talking about are for blow by. And I'm pretty sure that the color was Candy red on Pearl white as the Slixx decal sheet indicated.
  13. According to the old Slixx decal sheet for this car; the color was candy red over pearl white.
  14. I'm pretty sure that the small tank is for water. Funny cars in those days would have just a fuel tank, a fuel tank and water tank, afuel tank and oil tank or all three, like the original Hawaiian. Sometimes the water tank would have lines running straight to the heads ( I think that's the case here ) and others would run to a water pump first. I'm not a mechanic and I'm not trying to be a know it all, but I've studied photos of these cars for years and I've been a drag racing fan since the sixties, and this is what I've observed. One thing about the Revell model that some people don't understand is that those bead lock rear wheels didn't exist in 1970. so if you build the original car, you should use Halibrand style wheels. Also, the orig. car didn't have that black border around the wind shield, and the tin work over the engine was different. Drag racing artist Kenny Youngblood said that this was the greatest funny car of all time, It was a beast !
  15. These photos are from the March 1970 issue of Hot Rod Magazine. Hopefully they will help those who want to build the original car. The kit is based on the modern version. I also included a couple from my files. Enjoy.
  16. Thanks for that overwhelming response. Bunch of great modelers on this forum !
  17. I'm about to start on Richard Petty's 64 Plymouth. I have some pretty good reference, but I have a question about the interior. From the photos I've seen , the door panels, etc. seemto be the same color as the body. Am I correct on this. Hopefully some of the vintage Nascar experts out there can help.
  18. Thanks for that ! I had forgotten all about the Edsel ! These boxes inspired many a young boy to build models.
  19. The interior tub fits much better in the Mustang kit than in most of the kits in this series. In the Falcon, Tempest, and Chevy 2 I've always added plastic to the sides of the tub to get a tight fit. I didn't have to do this with the Mustang. I love the box art on this rerelease. It brings back a lot of memories. The first one of these kits I built was the Falcon. I'm talking the original kits here, I remember ,as a kid, how fascinated I was with box art on these kits. I'm looking forward to seeing what Round 2 brings back next. I wish they would bring back this whole series in the original boxes. A rerelease of the MPC Barry Setzer Vega Funny Car would be nice too.
  20. Here's a photo from my files. If you can get the Rodder's Journal mentioned above it would probably be your best bet.
  21. The book is called Grumpy's Toys. It's a great book with great pics. That would be your best bet.
  22. I don't know what kind of clear you used , but I have had great success clearing over kit decals with Testors One Coat Laquer. I had bad results with it over Slixx decals. I'm working one the Revell 1/25 Hawaiian, and the one coat worked great on top of those decals. The only Duplicolor I use is their primer. I know a lot of modelers use Duplicolor with great success, but I just haven't taken the time to learn how to use it. Hope you get it straightened out. The rest of the model looks great.
  23. Thanks for the help. I collect old drag racing magazines. Maybe I'll find a better photo one of these days.
  24. Does any one know what color this car was. I found decals for it. I can't tell from the photo if it's Dark blue , purple or black. I've found several pics of the white version of this car, but I want to build thither one. Any help will be appreciated.
  25. Beautiful model ! Really like the paint. Would you mind telling me the brand of paint, and did you clear coat over the decals? I take it that this is the present day nostalgia version of this car. Regardless you did a great job.
