  1. Thanks...I've already Google lift axle. It's a tag..behind the drive axles on an Oshkosh front discharge mixer that. Just curious who makes the real one for better images
  2. The mixer I'm working on has a lift axle that I need to scratch build, and curious of the manufacture to have a better understanding of what I'm building. I am new to trucks so the major parts confuse me! here's a photo of the lift axle any help welcome! TIA Jeff
  3. Great start Chuck! Our local FD had one of these for a water truck, I've always thought about trying my hand building one.
  4. Great tutorial! I sold off the 66 Chevy truck pro mod project cause I didn't have idea how to build proper cage

  9. The chain binders can be sourced from kit form services ...and actually work!! Very quick shipping How was your metal rolls formed..they look great
  10. Excellent work and craftmanship
  11. Nice work! I didn't realize there was so much potential from the C600
  12. This build is amazing! The subtle details really set off the model. Love the bumper treatment.
  13. I sprayed my Chevy COE using the Wicked line, and thinned it with the high perf. thinner. The ratio was around 60/40, through an Iwata Eclipse..but it has the .35 detail tip. I noticed the need to build up about 3 light layers, then 2 wet. these were both pearls, sprayed over Tamiya white primer. The finish flashed over quickly, and very pleased with the results. @tbill- I tried using regular 90% alcohol on a test ..and the finish was sub par. I'll give the guys over at tcpglobal were I ordered it, and ask if there's any other thinner recommendations Jeff
  14. Thanks for the great ideas! Now I have a reason to follow my wife into the craft stores!
  15. keep an eye out over at www. scalehobbyist.com . I purchased one of each set, its extremely useful for details! They ship fast, and usually have them in stock! they have them for $6.50 a pack
  16. I'm working on an Oshkosh front discharge mixer, and hoping someone can point me in the right direction. The truck has a walkway above the cab with an open diamond style mesh ...affectionately called a crows nest. Searching for a material that would work for this walk way? The scale is 1/25. I posted a photo of what I'm rambling about.. thanks Jeff
  17. I'm not sure of Gary's plan for a kit..just that some parts will be resin castings. Sorry I can't be more forthcoming. Kilrathy10- thanks for commenting, once the chassis starts it should proceed quickly
  18. Jesse- glad to have ya along! Friends have made this build possible w invaluable references, and allowing me direct access to the truck. Usual interweb searches are handy, but standing near this massive truck, able to smell the freshly washed off cement..really drives me to build this! David- the magazine you mentioned was ... Aug 1993. The builder was Clint Freeman, and did amazing work. His technique of cutting the drum like a lamp shade will be method for the 11 cubic yard drum. I ordered a copy just for this build! welcome aboard! Here's a holiday teaser, work on the rear engine cover, and the rear grill. The cover measurements were taken directly from the actual truck above, and scaled down. The basic shape is .030 sheet, then doubled for strength .The plan is to cast the parts in resin later. The ribbed area is a separate piece, blended w a swipe of putty. There's a small..020" strip along the bottom to reproduce the lip under the cover. The grill stymied me..but found inspiration in Clint's work to build my own. The frame is .020 strip, and varying sizes of plastic rod for the bars. The pattern was formed on paper first, then using this template, the grill was built! the photo's- enjoy!
  19. Well, the topic alludes to what's coming !! That's right, an Oshkosh Front Discharge Mixer !!! I've wanted to build one ever since watching them pass my house. Well, I found out a fellow modeler just happens to drive one for a living..and I was invited to the yard for a photo op !!! Thanks Mike R !! The build wouldn't be possible without the support of Gary Wallace , who helped w the frames, and other reference material. The truck I'm planning is from a local plant..Vitale/ Robinson. Their white trucks w/ the bright red diamonds on the drum will be the project stay tuned!! Jeff B
  20. Very clean work..keep up the excellent build
