  1. No problem! I've received tons of great advice and inspiration from builder here, glad to contribute. Oh..duct tape seems to work the best , and removes easily afterwards. Happy holidays
  2. I was forming odd curved shapes, after trying several times...found a tip in a armor modelers mag. Taping plastic around pvc tubing! Toss it in near boiling water for a few seconds...perfect curves.I also heat formed around a cheap funnel for a particular model chute. Hope this helps
  3. Thanks! The DR is such a good platform to modify. I heard parts of the dump body was originally from the autocar , I'd love to find a reasonable Autocar to build! Happy Holidays
  4. Very nice! The diamond plate and rivet detail shows perfectly
  5. Awesome work KJ! Great color choice
  6. Thanks Bismarck! The kit was a fun change of pace
  7. Congratulations Kurt on your amazing Pete! Tbill is correct, this model has to be seen to believe. Those decals will be very helpful, thanks again Jeff
  8. Thanks everyone! Tbill Thanks ! Wished I'd had a chance to meet ya, Prolly walked past ya a million times..what did you build?
  9. Hey that article on making the reo steer looks exactly how I made mine!! Guess it wasn't dumb luck after all see my lhs just received a few California haulers
  10. Killer work !! Love the budget building, real fabrication w great results. Just a suggestion for the images..try Fotki. It's free , and works w IE browser. I had exact issue here posting from photobucket, Harry helped . If I can help, pm me and I'll explain it better.
  11. Looks good so far! Good choice for the Carrier unit They were manufacturered not far from us
  12. If anyone here is attending this Sundays model truck show in Fulton, stop by and check it out.
  13. Thanks for the comments! The dusty glass really gives the worn look I was after, and the warning sign is really common here too....maybe too common!
  14. I added chalk pastels in rust shades to the muffler to create the crusty rust seen in pics. Ordinary tap water held the powder together. The frame also received a few streaks of this mix, but kept light. The photo's don't show the dust buildup on the box very well, but it was airbrushed w Tamiya deck tan and buff along the box bottom and where dirt would spray up from traveling. Last thing I did was the warning sign on the back, a quick image search of the sign and printed off. I added this for a little color.. I was advised to add a light load to the box, since the drop axle was down. Blue foam made a fake floor, then cheap cat littler topped off the load..
  15. thanks Chris ! Seems the D/R was available in nearly any color combo, made the options tough..they all looked good I'm calling this build Done !! Enjoy the pics..
  16. Thanks everyone. I've just finished up the west coast mirrors, and a few small details
  17. Thanks guys! Ok, for the drop axle the tire and rim are from the Ford c600 kit.I forgot the trim ring..oops
  18. looking good ! The mudflaps are great looking ! I like to use Testors Army Helo drab for the rubber..gives that aged appearance to tires and rubber parts.
  19. The windshield received a light dusting of dullcoat to create the wiper sweep..it dried a tad heavy, but a quick swipe w Future will blend it . The kit muffler annoyed me. The sprue gates were cast right into the heat shield, and sanding them away ruined the pattern. I decided to replace the part w plastic tube, giving it an aftermarket muffler look. I'll apply a few layers of rust for the look I'm after
  20. oops, the pics uploaded backwards..you get the idea !
  21. Tonight I scratch built the tarp cover for the dump box. The frame "bow" is 16 thou rod , and the torsion spring mounts were made from plastic strip. I punched a few discs for the springs. Searching for suitable material for the canvas tarp, I settled on airplane tissue from lhs. A light dusting of acrylic paint, and it should look the part..
  22. Just saying thank you to all those who are / have previously served your country . US Army Ft Hood Texas 1 Cavalry Division
  23. Thanks guys, I have a few updates to photograph then I'll get them uploaded. Only thing left to build is the tarp roller for the box
