I added chalk pastels in rust shades to the muffler to create the crusty rust seen in pics. Ordinary tap water held the powder together. The frame also received a few streaks of this mix, but kept light. The photo's don't show the dust buildup on the box very well, but it was airbrushed w Tamiya deck tan and buff along the box bottom and where dirt would spray up from traveling. Last thing I did was the warning sign on the back, a quick image search of the sign and printed off. I added this for a little color.. I was advised to add a light load to the box, since the drop axle was down. Blue foam made a fake floor, then cheap cat littler topped off the load..

looking good ! The mudflaps are great looking ! I like to use Testors Army Helo drab for the rubber..gives that aged appearance to tires and rubber parts.

The windshield received a light dusting of dullcoat to create the wiper sweep..it dried a tad heavy, but a quick swipe w Future will blend it . The kit muffler annoyed me. The sprue gates were cast right into the heat shield, and sanding them away ruined the pattern. I decided to replace the part w plastic tube, giving it an aftermarket muffler look. I'll apply a few layers of rust for the look I'm after

Tonight I scratch built the tarp cover for the dump box. The frame "bow" is 16 thou rod , and the torsion spring mounts were made from plastic strip. I punched a few discs for the springs. Searching for suitable material for the canvas tarp, I settled on airplane tissue from lhs. A light dusting of acrylic paint, and it should look the part..

looking good so far !! The airlines on your axles and frame really bring the model to life. The greasy handprints on the frame and foot traffic in the cab are very well executed

That little box hiding in the background...my lift axle from gw trucks you voted for arrived !! Time to get building A tarp over the box is underway, and painting the fuel tanks.

The major parts are done, just waiting for weathering. The cab / hood was painted w Testors True Blue enamel, I added a few drops of dullcoat to the mix to fade the finish. The box was a chore. Primed w Duplicolor , Testors Steel was chosen purely to enhance the blue. I really liked this combination. My Iwata airbrush handles all the paint work, until the steel . The metallic pigment kept clogging the fine tip , no matter how thin it was. Finally my harbor freight airbrush I use for clear was used. This gun is a joke, leaks like crazy, uncomfortable to use, but dumps clear on like glass...an AK might not be pretty , but it goes bang every time! any constructive feedback welcome!

I wanted a distressed , dull look to the chrome on this build. Trucks seen during my research showed the pitted and dull sheen , now how do I do it?? A quick search here found the answer.. steel wool. I very LIGHTLY buffed the chrome grill and bumper w super fine steel wool..0000 grade, The pic of the grill shows one side done, vs the untouched kit chrome opposite.I had already tried spraying dullcoat over a test part, but it didn't impart the look I wanted. The hydraulic tank was a simple build from plastic sheet, loosely based from photos I took of my step dads truck. Thanks for looking

Just a note, gwtrucks sells cnc cut frame rails in various length. Makes a frame stretch much easier..
