  1. OH !! Just heard the fenders, and bumper are done, should have them soon for installation! I can't wait to see them on the truck
  2. As promised..ITS PAINTED !!!! well, almost. The truck needed several layers , akin to a camo scheme , to achieve the final look. The silver is MM aluminum, chrome is Alclad, and the black is Tamiya lacquer . JT should love the stripes..heard he has a thing for orange! Its testors International orange..fitting for the Lonestar. Heres the pics.. laying down the stripes..time consuming, but better than a decal in my eyes.. If your planning to model the HD, you'll need to change the side panels on the hood. I filed the kit panels , then layed thin .010 strips for the new sides. These received a coat of Alclad chrome. Well, thats it for today !
  3. Thanks, I promised pics of the paint. .and I won't disappoint!
  4. Love the ram! That's gonna look amazing on the gravel trailer. Thanks for the how to for making them
  5. I'm working on the paint currently for the cab and hood. This wknd I'll have more updates, thanks for following along and the great feedback.Found the Line o Tape thru mega hobbies, just waiting for arrival. Hey KJ thanks for looking in! I gotta contact you about some wheels
  6. http://www.revell.de/produkte/modellbau/nutzfahrzeuge-eisenbahn/trucks-trailer/id/07408.html Click building instructions right below the paint color chips.enjoy! You might need to translate the page at the top right of screen
  7. Thanks! Glad I asked, that will add another dimension to the build.
  8. Question - where's a good source for the reflective tape seen on truck sides?maybe called DOT stripe? Sorry for the dumb question, but I'm still learning
  9. Thanks it's been a fun build, glad everyone likes it
  10. Looks good Dan !! Must be you moved the truck again..had to add another gusset !! The framework looks amazing, gonna look awesome under a coat of color! I remember my dad working on his bosses car hauler, and he was always reinforcing the trailer before another trip..seemed that trailer was a solid weld before it was scrapped. gotta see if he has any pics of it.. Keep up the great work! Jeff
  11. Thanks Terry, I thought about modifying the kit ones , but the slots wouldn't jive. I'm sure someone will have a set eventually, then I'll swap em
  12. man, thats a killer paint scheme on the DR !! You make these builds look effortless, this will be a showstopper! wish we had better temps for shooting color..its a chilly 20 degrees here today! I spent a couple years in Texas, thought I missed the seasons, till I realized you guys just skip the lousy ones ! Keep up the fantastic work Jeff
  13. for discussion only..this is the paint scheme I'm modeling
  14. Its paint time !!! I'm using Tamiya rattle can for the first time, and man is this stuff work great!! The wrecker bed received its silver accent panel, then gloss black . I still have the orange and black pinstriping to add. Today I added the tread plates to the bed that were previously resprayed Alclad Chrome. The interior is painted. The seats were sprayed gunmetal, then semi black centers for accent. I ran a very thin wash of black around the seams to highllight them. The dash has a quick brown wash to show the heat vents, and console details better Back outside , the shorter fuel tank was mounted. I scratched the step mounts from .015" , contoured to the tank..using pics of the 1-1 truck. Gotta finish the tread plates, ran out of black gloss after the acres on the wrecker bed.The exhaust pipes will be aligned once the final cab position is set, and the metal stacks from evil bay arrive~ The driver needs something to stand on right?? Whats a HD edition without the trademark battery box. I scratched out a box from photos , just sheet and a few strips for the details on the face...and yes, the badge. The final shot today..a mockup .I read on others builds, the cowl lip needed minor tweaking for a better hood / cab fit. After lightly sanding the lip, things line up much nicer.Sorry some hood details are missing, their currrently out of town ! Oh yeah !! Thats my new cab from Dave..this one is like glass !! any feeedback or comments welcome.
  15. Awesome build! The shackles and chains on the low boy add so much detail, and their hand made wow Speechless
  16. Another DR!! Gonna be a great build, really like the idea of the flatbed, not something you see often
  17. awesome work Dan, the small details really make this carrier stand out ! I like the gusset plates, ol mechanic probably had to keep adding more after every run! Keep up the fantastic build
  18. Thanks everyone! Took a look for one of the Revell lonestar kits...needless to say it's cheaper to print the logos myself.
  19. Glad to share the tip ! Hope everyone finds it useful, and starts adding stems to all their builds! ..I snapped a pic after work of the rim to show the stem, and how its mounted . also the wire I used . The wire measured .020" copper wire. Its found in the jewelery making isle ..hobby lobby, ac moore, etc. Heres a pic showing the stem peaking thru the front wheel.. its sitting right at top dead center.. The front wheel isn't totally correct for the HD edition, but I'm sticking with it. back to the bench..
  20. Your gonna hate me ...it's really that simple! Craft wire, .026 gage . Drill hole thru rim in desired spot from outside rim. I bent a small piece of wire into a 90 , then super glue to rim. All this is hidden inside under tire! After glue sets, bend the stem w tweezers! !! That's it!
