Createx Wicked Colors Paint Questions
gotnitro? replied to Jc cline's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I sprayed my Chevy COE using the Wicked line, and thinned it with the high perf. thinner. The ratio was around 60/40, through an Iwata Eclipse..but it has the .35 detail tip. I noticed the need to build up about 3 light layers, then 2 wet. these were both pearls, sprayed over Tamiya white primer. The finish flashed over quickly, and very pleased with the results. @tbill- I tried using regular 90% alcohol on a test ..and the finish was sub par. I'll give the guys over at tcpglobal were I ordered it, and ask if there's any other thinner recommendations Jeff -

keep an eye out over at www. scalehobbyist.com . I purchased one of each set, its extremely useful for details! They ship fast, and usually have them in stock! they have them for $6.50 a pack -
I'm working on an Oshkosh front discharge mixer, and hoping someone can point me in the right direction. The truck has a walkway above the cab with an open diamond style mesh ...affectionately called a crows nest. Searching for a material that would work for this walk way? The scale is 1/25. I posted a photo of what I'm rambling about.. thanks Jeff

Getting all "mixed" up...
gotnitro? replied to gotnitro?'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I'm not sure of Gary's plan for a kit..just that some parts will be resin castings. Sorry I can't be more forthcoming. Kilrathy10- thanks for commenting, once the chassis starts it should proceed quickly -

Jesse- glad to have ya along! Friends have made this build possible w invaluable references, and allowing me direct access to the truck. Usual interweb searches are handy, but standing near this massive truck, able to smell the freshly washed off cement..really drives me to build this! David- the magazine you mentioned was ... Aug 1993. The builder was Clint Freeman, and did amazing work. His technique of cutting the drum like a lamp shade will be method for the 11 cubic yard drum. I ordered a copy just for this build! welcome aboard! Here's a holiday teaser, work on the rear engine cover, and the rear grill. The cover measurements were taken directly from the actual truck above, and scaled down. The basic shape is .030 sheet, then doubled for strength .The plan is to cast the parts in resin later. The ribbed area is a separate piece, blended w a swipe of putty. There's a small..020" strip along the bottom to reproduce the lip under the cover. The grill stymied me..but found inspiration in Clint's work to build my own. The frame is .020 strip, and varying sizes of plastic rod for the bars. The pattern was formed on paper first, then using this template, the grill was built! the photo's- enjoy! -
Well, the topic alludes to what's coming !! That's right, an Oshkosh Front Discharge Mixer !!! I've wanted to build one ever since watching them pass my house. Well, I found out a fellow modeler just happens to drive one for a living..and I was invited to the yard for a photo op !!! Thanks Mike R !! The build wouldn't be possible without the support of Gary Wallace , who helped w the frames, and other reference material. The truck I'm planning is from a local plant..Vitale/ Robinson. Their white trucks w/ the bright red diamonds on the drum will be the project stay tuned!! Jeff B

1950 Chevy coe- DONE!
gotnitro? replied to gotnitro?'s topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks everyone. The project was a huge change from my normal ....I usually build strictly 1/35 military kits. -
Here's my completed build of the 1950 Chevy. I utilized the Ron Andrews resin cab, AMT "Texaco " kit, and several scratched parts along the way! The paint is Orange / White pearl . Createx Wicked colors was used, this stuff is amazing . Thin it down using their W500 high performance thinner about 50% and spray...simple!! The clear is a 2 part urethane from URE-KEM. I replaced the plastic floor w/ wood strips, 1/16 channel for the ribs. There's a Optima yellow top hiding under the hood, and Pegasus wheels for burnouts. Alclad 2 was used throughout for the chrome bits. I found a suitable side mirror from the 67 vette..which also gave up the rear suspension..for that ground dragging look I'm having trouble uploading from PB..the upload doesn't finish after I click ok, so here's the thumbnails..sorry enjoy the pics!

Thanks for the feedback! Yep...the truck was cleared over the wknd. I tried a urethane clear called ure-kem ...this stuff worked perfectly. I'll post a few finished pics after the alclad dries. Oh yeah...I also installed the wood floor for the bed. -
Buffalo MRAP..

Thanks for the comments! I should have mentioned the kit is 1/35 scale. For some reason photobucket is giving me fits transferring pics here, I'd show the arm and detail shots.. -
Buffalo MRAP..
gotnitro? replied to gotnitro?'s topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Thanks! Yeah...the model requires a steady hand to move. The cage is really solid though...not as fragile as it appears. The cage set was well made. They include a jig to assemble the panels...and each one has a very small bracket that ties each one together. I hung them in groups of 4 panels. -
The Bronco Buffalo 6X6 MPCV ..an engineering marvel. I added the Lion Roar bar armor update set to model a truck from Afghanistan. The Buff was painted w/ Tamiya paints, weathered w pastels. The arm is fully plumbed w rubber hoses, wire, and metal fittings. The ballistic glass was painted using Future floor polish and food coloring..2 drops of blue, and touch of green, mixed in a film canister of Future. The model won "Best Armor and Best Master Builder at a local contest Jeff

the grille and front bumper will be rechromed using Alclad II . After snapping the pics, the transition under the cab door annoyed me..it looked odd next to the bed. I remasked the running boards, and shot the orange along the step wall. -
I've been working on a fun project lately, and wanted to share in the progress! The project started by using the AMT 1950 Chevy "Texaco" for the chassis. The plan was to build a truck inspired by "Counting cars " flatbed, but took a detour into a mild custom. The cab is from Ron Andrews. I can open the hood after scratching a set of hinges I'm using Pegasus wheels, and the paint is Createx Wicked line ..pearl orange over pearl white! The frame required major surgery to fit the wheelbase of the truck..and decided to lower the suspension for a ground hugging appearance. I grafted in a '67 Vette rear, made airbags using pencil erasers. The front was lowered after I bent plastic rod for an axle, then flipped it over the kit springs. The appearance of pleated seats is just Tamiya tape and piping is .020" rod glued around the seat . Hope ya like it so far!
