  1. Jumping into the pre-shading here. I'm not going to prime this thing because of all the fabricated riveting and panel lines that I've done. I want all the raised detail that I can stand here.
  2. Great to see you with this one Riley! Lookin' forward to the good progress man. On a sidenote: How old are those salt and pepper shakers? I remember those things from when I was a kid some 30 years ago!!
  3. Well here's the next step. How to mount this friggin wing with little or no support aside from the hingepoint. First off I needed something strong .... This should do: Then cut to size: Then I got my good ol' buddy JB to adhere these into the wing: and then mounted the wing. Walah!! This wing will be permanently displayed down and the port wing will be permanently folded up.
  4. Well here's where its at before we get started any further: and this is the nasty "overbite" and misfit at the wing joints for the starboard wing which will be displayed in the "locked" position. What a disaster........... Here's after filing away and sanding just so the joints would butt up flush. I have a "buckle" on the top and bottom sides of the wing. Jeez!! Where does it end? So I stuck an old paint brush between the upper and lower halves to spread the two pieces and dunked the whole assy in boiling water for 10 seconds: and now we have a fitting wing joint all the way. Revell.............................good grief!!!!
  5. Danny: Hang in there Danny. I can certainly understand about the upsides and downsides of model companies. I can extend alot of empathy towards you for some of the blues you have been facing. On one hand it sounds like you have your work cut out for you but on the other hand you seem to be approaching it from a "can do" perspective. I'm very confident you'll get through this and I look forward to the progress. Pete J: It's great to see you in here. Grab a kit and join in man.
  6. Man do I ever feel your pain there Danny!! That's where I'm at with this Corsair! Had I known I was going to have to do all this stuff (and there's alot more!) to make a halfway presentable kit out of this I would have bought a Tamiya Corsair and saved myself alot of trouble. At this point I do have too much time invested and now I'm in it for the challenge of seeing this thing through. Hang in there Danny!
  7. Man Tony! That's as good a story as the build looks! She's a beauty!
  8. Like I was sayin........... The wings on this old Revell kit were designed to fold up and down. The problem with this is it has some nasty hinge points and wing retainers to hold the wings in either the up or down positions as well as gaps and the like. Here's what I'm talking about: Here's the parts to fix it: and here's the tab trimmed up, squared off and fit into place: Still a lot more work to do...........................
  9. Thanks Ray and Wayne! Oh the fun aint over yet. As a matter of fact its just getting started. Lookin for pics soon Wayne. This outta be good!
  10. Guys the age of this kit is showing. The air intakes at the wing root are a terrible fit: So I broke out the Tamiya white putty and went to work. LOTS of puttying and sanding here to get it whipped into shape: and then I went to work on the gun barrels. What the heck are these? Toilet paper guns???? So I hacked 'em off: Cut some pieces of a syringe for gun barrels: Drilled out the gun barrel housings protruding from the wing to create a recessed area and then drilled out the small holes so that the syringe sections could fit so that it looks something like this: So far it's not going too awful bad. The wings are another story................................. :
  11. What kind of camera are you using Miles? And yes that Cummins looks like it got alot of attention from what I can see.
  12. That's gotta be my favorite tank of all time Wayne! Looking forward to the paint and weather magic!
  13. MIles:Now that's what I wanted to see. This creation in its rawest form. Looking forward to seeing where you go from here. Danny:Good start and the pic turned out fine I see. It will be interesting and cool to watch what you do in regards to a B-2 stealth bomber outfit here. Keep it coming. Everybody:Well this thing hasn't kicked my tail yet. LOTS of work to make this thing into a model I'll tell you! I managed to get the lower center wing secion glued in after fighting yet more fit, alignment and seam issues. I also trimmed an ounce of flash off of the upper wing assys and primed them and the lower center wing section in black (I wasn't at that stage yet when I took the pic below but the lower got painted black too) before applying a THIN coat of zinc chromate green to simulate a shadowed effect. and after a buttload of sanding, cutting and alignment I finally got the upper wing sections glued in. Still alot of work to do here as Revell made the upper and lower section into two more pieces than they needed to. I've got to make the air intakes that go int those gaping holes look like part of the wing with no seam line. Jeez!!!!!!
  14. Those tracks really bring this the whole build out. I'm watching this one...........
  15. Pics Miles..... Pics!!! lol. Sounds good so far!
  16. Coming along fine. No aftermarket pre-cut masks for this puppy! I'm going to have to mask the windscreen on the Corsair I'm building from scratch and thank God it only has two sections of frame to do and not 2000 like a Stuka or Dauntless!!! lol
  17. In my last update I had the fuselage halves together. What I didn't show you were the nasty gaps and poor fit between the halves....... After sanding, alot of the detail got whisked away like panel lines and rivets. I re-riveted the nose area using small drops of super glue applied with the end of a needle with the point cut off. This is my first ever attempt at something like this because usually a kit as crappy as this one goes in the trash can and I buy something like a Tamiya or Hasegawa offering thats alot better quality. I'm sticking with this now soley to improve modeling skills that I wont try on my really detailed builds. Then there's the stretched sprue to replace the panel lines that were sanded off. Installed they look something like this............ Don't go too hard on me as, again, this is my very first time trying something like this.
  18. Youre more than welcome Danny! And thank you and all the other participants that are making this CB what it is! All of yaw are da bomb!!!
  19. Looks like you're off to a great start Brayden.
  20. This'll be a new spin on the build roster Danny. Lookin' forward to see you work your magic here. BTW I've got your pic in the intro post.
  21. Hell build it in here! I'll get right to work on that photo pal! Looking forward to it Brayden.
  22. Danny:Thanks for your comments on the cockpit. Your Batman and cycle IS AWESOME!!!! The shading detail is right on and the paint work is just as good. I'll tell you it is a blast having builds like this in here to shake things up from the norm. It's very entertaining and interesting at the same time. Thank you for being a part of this build again Dan! We still have 4 1/2 months left until the deadline so if youre feeling froggy grab another kit and join in. Let me know which pic you would like to use for the intro post. Brayden:Man you bet you can join! Let me know the manufacturer of the kit and I'll get you entered in on the build roster. Lookin' forward to your build.
  23. Some more progress here. I got the seat belts a couple of days after I posted the painted cockpit flooring/ seat assy and installed them. Man it's just what that basic Revell interior (or should I say detailed interior compared to some I've seen out of Revell! lol) needed to "wake" it up. The pic is a little green due to the camera settings which I am STILL learning. Here's a partial shot of the cockpit completed before installing it into the fuselage. In we go with the cockpit (this is usually my least favorite part of any aircraft build as all the cockpit detail is sealed up in the fuselage halves but here it aint no biggie-there's just not that much detail) into the fuselage.......... and now sealed up.............with alot of seam removal work to do now.
  24. Amen on the unorthodox! Almost all of the German engines were inverted. I don't get it either! lol
