I'm almost finished with an AMT '40 Ford sedan so I'm getting started on this project. Since my old laptop fried that had Vista, and this new laptop has Windows 8, I've been having some problems adjusting to the new operating system. The plan is a close copy of this stock '34 that I found on the net. I'm using the Lindberg kit that was issued in 1992 and was molded in tan. I do not plan on painting the cab or bed, the finish on these are really nice. I used some polishing cloths to get out a few fine scratches. There was minimal flash on this kit, surprising for a tool that is at least 50 years old. It does have a few sinkholes I'll need to correct, going to try some "sprue glue" as a filler to correct them. I tried posting pictures through my Photobucket account but for some reason I can't get them to post here. For now I'll have to post them as they are ,I need to figure out the old way of posting pictures here.

AMT '40 Ford Sedan early 60's style drag car updated 3/29/14
VW93 replied to VW93's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I've off the forum for quite awhile due to my computer deciding to fry a few months ago. I was finally able to afford an economy laptop, having all sorts of fun trying to figure out Windows 8 versus my old Vista system. Here's where I'm at now with this long stalled project. After several trips to the purple pond the paint is at a point I can live with. I certainly learned the hard way about body prep & sanding. I still need to paint the wiper arms & touchup the running boards, give the front tires a sanding and a few other small "fixes". Looking over the whole build there are a few things I should have done differently. On the next build I'll try to incorporate those improvements. I hope to have this finished in the next couple of days, then a build of the Lindberg/AMT '34 Ford Pickup. -
Old Monogram Parts Restored ?
VW93 replied to Pete L.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Add the Little Deuce, Yellow Jacket, 30 Ford Phaeton to the wish list. -
Great subject and work. Nice to see a model built of one of the "Independents" . Not al the racers had a huge budget back then & NASCAR could never have a full field if it weren't for the litle guys

'62 AMT Triumph MC parts tree ID help needed
VW93 replied to VW93's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mark, thanks for your help. Quite a history lesson also. Thanks again. -
I've known about their extensive kit instructions online for quite awhile as I'm sure others are aware of them. Lately I've been referring to them on a regular basis researching parts & assembly order for some older restoration projects. Some of the instructions are not in their proper folders due to Fotki's glitches lately. As an example you will find some of the AMT 60's Ford kit instructions in the 1961 to 1970 AMT Chevrolet folder Here is the link to their site. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/

I picked up a box of parts recently & determined that some of them came from the AMT '62 Ford Galaxie hardtop Styleline kit. I'm also wanting to know if these parts were only available in the 1962 kits. The instructions from Drastic Plastics show the MC parts that were included in the kit. Here is the parts I have. I'm assuming where the yellow arrow is pointing would have been the MC taillight bezel. I looked through the rest of the instructions and have no idea what the other parts are for. There appears be two custom headlight buckets but I'm wondering what the ribbed parts are for. Front view Rear view

I have a vintage builtup '63 Nova wagon that was aquired at a swap meet years ago. The original tires were a bit "crusty". I was able to remove them from the backing plates without any real problems. I filled my Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner with some warm water & a few drops of Dawn dish detergent. I ran the tires and wire wheels through two cycles of about three minutes each. I then used some 70% alcohol on a Q-Tip and gently cleaned the whitewalls. I was able to salvage the 50+ year old tires in order to save the last 4 vintage 13" whitewalls that I had left in my parts stash.

Question about an AMT single axle trailer
VW93 replied to VW93's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mike, thanks for the info. -
I bought a few complete & parts kits over the past few days at the Charlotte Auto Fair. The Revell '40 Ford is sealed, the ' 29 Woody/PU, '67 GTX, Carl Casper Phone Booth & Stroker McGurk's Hot Rodders Tall T were opened but complete. The Superbird is missing the body/nose/wing & glass but all the other parts & decals are there. The '60 SMP convertible box was a '60 Corvette kit. All that's left is the unused F&R bumpers, wheel covers, tonneau cover & headrest fairings. I also picked up 24 little pages mags that are in fair condition. Titles include Honk !, Car Craft, Rod & Custom, Custom Cars and Rodding & Re-styling. I also bought a box of builts & parts. The Cooter's tow truck is a real glue bomb. The single car trailer was the best piece in the lot. There was also an AMT Willys PU in pieces, and an Ala Kart/ '29 Roadster parts kit. There was also a started Kiss van and an unstarted Mini Craft 1/20 scale Mako Shark. My Hobby Lobby 40 percent off purchases.

Which version do you like best ?
VW93 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I bought the tin version due to the extras in that issue. I also have a couple of the Blueprinter editions. I still need to pick up one of the reissues for the contents & the box art. I'll probably build the tin version & use the tin for decoration/storage. -
Amazing and doing it with the limited refrence material available to you.

What is sad about all these builds is that most of them were probably sold by family members after the original builder passed on. Hopefully they kept a few builds to remember that person. One of my prized possessions from my childhood is a 64 1/2 Mustang white hardtop promo. My uncle gave it to me when he took me to Mole Ford in Amityville, NY to see the new Mustang. He passed away from an undiagnosed heart defect when he was 37, I had just turned 18. Last week I gave it a thorough cleaning & replaced the bumpers from a Mustang parts kit I had. The entire time I spent cleaning & polishing it I was thinking of Uncle Bill. It is the first model I show people when they comment about what I have on display. I just wonder why people don't want to keep part of their loved ones childhood passion.

Kris, there is a system available that does a bracket & pro heads up tree. Also gives reaction & "60 foot" times. A friend of mine had the system for his Maxx Trax drag strip. Google ho dragstrip timing & you should find the info. I believe the company was in Canada.

The last of the 3 kits I have from the same builder from the 60's. This one was built as cleanly as the blue Nova. I'm glad he didn't go with the fins along the bed sides when he built this. This needs minimal cleaning. The go kart is rebuildable with a little bit of work. I'm sure the original builder had a few choice words after he smeared glue on the rear window. I'll eventually take this apart and see if i can either repair it or replace it with Modelhaus glass. Looks like he ran out of the silver paint before he built this PU. If anyone has a piece that looks like this in their parts stash please PM me. Two of these are needed for the rack that displays the go kart on the bed.
