  1. An excellent thread with a lot of great tips. I've picked up a few tips that I'll try to incorporate on my next build.
  2. I like the color choice and the detail work you have done. Definitely following this build. I had a '73 Duster 340 I ordered in June of '72. I worked for a Chrysler/Plymouth dealer at the time, got it for $100 over invoice. I believe out the door it was a little under $2,900. It was delivered to the dealer August 15th, I couldn't register it until August 31st. It was a bare bones Duster 340 with 4 speed,3:23 Sure Grip, power discs, AM/FM radio and stripe delete. Color was Chestnut Poly with a Honey Gold bench interior with black rubber floor mat. It was quick, street raced it here and there, never got hassled by the police. Looked like a standard 6 cylinder Duster, only the rumble of the exhaust gave it away that it wasn't a Slant 6. A real "Plain Brown Wrapper" sleeper. I got hit head on by a drunk driver in May of '74, she was totaled. I luckily walked away with only bruises on my shoulder from the harness.
  3. I'd like to see Revell do a '57 Ford 2 door wagon from their '57 Ford tooling. Shouldn't be to hard for them to work from the existing tooling. It would be great if they could tool up a 223 cu in 6 for it. And make it a 2 in 1 kit right from the start. Include both the 6 & V8 engines in it. Include all the speed equipment for the V8. Maybe some generic commercial business decals and some drag decals. If they offer it as a true 2 in 1 kit from the beginning, I'd bet they would sell a lot more kits when initially released.
  4. Hakan, thanks for showing those variations. I was just looking on the sheets for the black letters and black with white letters. I'll recheck their sheets later.
  5. Hakan, I've checked their nostalgic contingency sheets online and I don't see the M&H decals on them. I may be missing them but I don't believe they have them on those sheets. I'd also like to just get a sheet of M&H decals only as I have more contingency decals than I'll probably ever be able to use. I have a call in to Slixx,I'm waiting to hear back from them. I'm going to suggest that they do them as a mini sheet.
  6. Thanks for all the kind comments !!! The early AMT kits have always been some of my favorite kits. Next up is the Lindberg/AMT '34 Ford pickup. The '40 sedan is the second kit I've built after a 20+ year period of not building. There are a few flaws in this build, mainly in the detail painting (the eyes and hand coordination aren't what they used to be). I would have liked to done a little more detail painting under the hood. I also realized I should have used more contrasting colors for the interior. I'll also add a fire extinguisher to the interior after I find one in my parts stash. Vent windows will be added after the BMF work is completed. My goal with this build was to try and do the basics correctly. I spent quite a bit of time on mold & parting lines, paint prep and final finish.. The other goal was to get it together without glue smudges, fingerprints, misaligned headlight lenses and so on. The body paint could be a little better but I was happy to have no dirt, insects or orange peel after the paint was completed. Thanks again for all the comments.
  7. It's finished for now. I just posted the semi completed build pictures in the Under Glass section.
  8. While not a true drag car, I built this almost straight from the box. The only non kit supplied items were the AMT Parts Pack M&H slicks and the front tires which were from the Revell '50 Ford pickup. Decals were from my stash. I'm looking for a source for the M&H contingency decals. I have a couple of different versions but only one pair of each. I didn't want to use them yet in case I need to find someone to make some for me. The fenders and body are just set on the frame for now. I have a friend that is going to help me with the BMF on the side trim and door handles when we can get together. Vent windows will be added after the BMF work is completed. After taking it outside for these pictures I found a few areas that need a little more attention. I'd post a link to the On The Workbench thread I started earlier this year but I'm having problems figuring out how to do it with Windows 8. You can find it by using the title of this post. Thanks for looking.
  9. Hakan, I checked the Slixx site, they only appear to have decals for the tires. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if they have them.
  10. Looking for an aftermarket source for M&H slicks decals like these. These are the only two that I found in my stash. Looking for more since I have several sets of the Parts Pack M&H's I'll be using on future builds Thanks
  11. Going stock due to not having to paint the cab/bed components. I'll probably add the wrecker boom from another issue of the kit.
  12. I'm almost finished with an AMT '40 Ford sedan so I'm getting started on this project. Since my old laptop fried that had Vista, and this new laptop has Windows 8, I've been having some problems adjusting to the new operating system. The plan is a close copy of this stock '34 that I found on the net. I'm using the Lindberg kit that was issued in 1992 and was molded in tan. I do not plan on painting the cab or bed, the finish on these are really nice. I used some polishing cloths to get out a few fine scratches. There was minimal flash on this kit, surprising for a tool that is at least 50 years old. It does have a few sinkholes I'll need to correct, going to try some "sprue glue" as a filler to correct them. I tried posting pictures through my Photobucket account but for some reason I can't get them to post here. For now I'll have to post them as they are ,I need to figure out the old way of posting pictures here.
  13. I've off the forum for quite awhile due to my computer deciding to fry a few months ago. I was finally able to afford an economy laptop, having all sorts of fun trying to figure out Windows 8 versus my old Vista system. Here's where I'm at now with this long stalled project. After several trips to the purple pond the paint is at a point I can live with. I certainly learned the hard way about body prep & sanding. I still need to paint the wiper arms & touchup the running boards, give the front tires a sanding and a few other small "fixes". Looking over the whole build there are a few things I should have done differently. On the next build I'll try to incorporate those improvements. I hope to have this finished in the next couple of days, then a build of the Lindberg/AMT '34 Ford Pickup.
  14. Scott, I meant to say for Round2 to re issue the Tiger and Opel GT with Get Smart licensing & box art since they already have the tooling.
  15. Add the Little Deuce, Yellow Jacket, 30 Ford Phaeton to the wish list.
  16. Great subject and work. Nice to see a model built of one of the "Independents" . Not al the racers had a huge budget back then & NASCAR could never have a full field if it weren't for the litle guys
  17. Mark, thanks for your help. Quite a history lesson also. Thanks again.
  18. I've known about their extensive kit instructions online for quite awhile as I'm sure others are aware of them. Lately I've been referring to them on a regular basis researching parts & assembly order for some older restoration projects. Some of the instructions are not in their proper folders due to Fotki's glitches lately. As an example you will find some of the AMT 60's Ford kit instructions in the 1961 to 1970 AMT Chevrolet folder Here is the link to their site. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/
  19. I picked up a box of parts recently & determined that some of them came from the AMT '62 Ford Galaxie hardtop Styleline kit. I'm also wanting to know if these parts were only available in the 1962 kits. The instructions from Drastic Plastics show the MC parts that were included in the kit. Here is the parts I have. I'm assuming where the yellow arrow is pointing would have been the MC taillight bezel. I looked through the rest of the instructions and have no idea what the other parts are for. There appears be two custom headlight buckets but I'm wondering what the ribbed parts are for. Front view Rear view
  20. I have a vintage builtup '63 Nova wagon that was aquired at a swap meet years ago. The original tires were a bit "crusty". I was able to remove them from the backing plates without any real problems. I filled my Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner with some warm water & a few drops of Dawn dish detergent. I ran the tires and wire wheels through two cycles of about three minutes each. I then used some 70% alcohol on a Q-Tip and gently cleaned the whitewalls. I was able to salvage the 50+ year old tires in order to save the last 4 vintage 13" whitewalls that I had left in my parts stash.
  21. Alan, give me a few days to check my parts stash. I may have the Twister Vega interior & some other miscellaneous parts from that kit.
