  1. From the CKM Summer Classic NNL in Clemmons ,NC yesterday. Picked up two sheets of BMF and a refill of Tamiya 6mm tape from Chip of Xtreme Scale Detail. Prices were great compared to what it would have cost at Hobby Town. Also picked up the '60 Galaxie 2in1 and a 1/32 late 70's Malibu police car for a possible slot car conversion from two other vendors.. I was vending at the show and had a fairly successful day of sales. Could have bought more but I was happy to go home with less than what I started out with instead of adding to what I already have.
  2. Thanks for the picture post, I was there vending and only saw a small percentage of what was there.
  3. Gordon, I'm not sure if it's a HL corporate policy about rain checks but my local HL in Mooresville, NC does it. I only stop in there if I'm visiting friends in the area as it's 70 miles round trip. I have one a little closer, it's only 48 miles round trip.
  4. Another thanks for posting those pictures. I was vending and only had about 5 minutes to look at everything on the tables.
  5. The HL 40% off coupon is great, saves quite a bit on paint and supplies also. I discovered something at HL during my last visit there last week. If you look at the restock tags on the shelf you may notice their stock level is set at one piece. That is set by HL corporate. I tracked down the person that handles the model section and the crafts. I suggested to her that she may want to increase the stock levels on some of the kits such as the new '57 Chevy convertible and the soon to be released Revell '67 Camaro. She appreciated the input and said she can add to the minimum stock levels. You may want to do the same at your local HL. Also the shelves are restocked at my HL on Tuesdays, so you may want to check when your HL restocks. If it's not on the shelf on their restock day you may need to ask if they have it in the storeroom. Another tip is that if you go in with a 40% off coupon and the kit/item you want is not in stock they can special order it for you. Just find the person that handles the model/craft section. They will honor the coupon as a rain check I'm not sure how long they will hold the item for you..
  6. Still working on this, the heat and humidity have put a halt to most of the paint work that still needs to be done. I glass beaded the tires and painted the rims gloss black. I used a small blade screwdriver to line up the spokes the best I could. Also drilled out the horn for a more realistic look. Firewall detailed, a little touchup work needed here and there. Frame painted satin black with gloss black suspension and drivetrain. Grill painted satin black with a silver sharpie for the emblem and trim. I hope to get the engine painted this week along with the fenders and start the assembly process.
  7. AC and others I posted a link to NHRA Rule Books from 1958 to 1968 several months ago on the Drag Racing Models forum. For some reason I can't copy & paste the link in this message. Go to the Drag Racing Models forum and use the search function in the upper right hand corner. Type in "Link to NHRA rule books" and it should be the first thread to pop up. Perhaps one of the Mods could pin it to the top of the page?
  8. Shane, see you there. Thanks for the offer to help in the AM.
  9. Mark, if that auction site is to be deemed reliable, original issue kits have sold for between $111.00 to one from a seller in France getting $249.00. One original (1964) that was sold for best offer was sealed in cellophane. Did Monogram use cellophane back in 1964?
  10. I just used that word 3X in my last post. Let me know where to send th check.
  11. According to Ed Sexton, it was an issue with Volkswagen regarding using the term/name "Beetle". The Blue Beetle comic character also may have something to it being the Blue Bandito.
  12. I just got off the phone with Revell about the Blue Bandito since it was supposed to be out in the third quarter. They told me it now has a mid September release date. I was told it was being issued as the original with buckets, bed cover, scuba gear and surfboard. The only changes are the name and the Cadillac valve covers due to licensing. The valve covers will not have the Cadillac script. It seems they can't issue it as the Blue Beetle due to VW having "Beetle" trademarked. I should have asked them about the box art.
  13. With the Blue Beetle being re issued as the Blue Bandito, I'm seeing original kits going for some pretty high prices. Is it the original box, decals or what?
  14. Jason, also look in the 1:! reference pictures forum for more pics of a stock '41 Willys. I'd post the link but I'm having problems learning to use Windows 8!!!! I posted them in April, search the forum for Willys. The car in question is located about a half mile from me.
  15. John, looking forward to meeting you. I know several members of the L.I.A.R.S Club and used to do their show as a vendor when I lived on the Island.
  16. I believe that '53 Chrysler was originally made by Marx Toys in the 50's. Another company was making them about 10 years ago, I remember seeing them in K-Mart.
  17. I'll be there vending and may bring a couple of old vintage buildups for display. I'll be wearing a gray Freeport Stadium T Shirt that has an old school Modified on it. Stop by, I would like to meet other members of the forum.
  18. I will be there as a vendor. I am looking for a helper for the morning move in. Will only need help to bring everything in. PM me for details Thanks
  19. I usually have a problem with the difference in shades of colors even after the paint has been stirred. I decided to make my own paint chips with what I had on hand. I had an extra slat from some vinyl venetian blinds and I gave it a quick spray with white primer. I then cut pieces to fit the tops of Model Master bottles and keep them in a small container. When I use a color I paint one of the chips that I have taped to a popsicle stick. After it has dried I superglue it to the lid of the bottle. I know it's hard to see in the picture, but now I can see the subtle difference between colors such as Model Masters "Steel" and their "Jet Exhaust" and other colors.
  20. I glass beaded some black wall tires today for my '34 Ford PU project. I was real pleased with the results. I did the tread area also, sure beats sanding.
  21. Very nice!! Quite a few bronze paint jobs have been posted lately! I hope to get a chance to see it at the CKM show, I'll be there as a vendor trying to sell off some kits.
  22. Thanks Andy, my scratch building skills aren't the best though. I'll save that info in case I can't find any and I have to scratch some up.
  23. jb and Vince, thanks for the info.
  24. Hopefully with all the runners opened up some parts that were include in the original issues will turn up. I'd like to see the cycle fenders, completion hood and tow bar returned to the '32 Ford coupe. I'm not sure what else would be needed to duplicate the original issue. Re tool a set of moon discs, add the skinny Firestone slicks and original decals. Do the box like the original issue. I'd buy several.
  25. I wish my first build came out that nice!!!
