  1. Ron, thanks for the comments. I am proud of the award, I am just amazed it was picked over better builds than mine. Joseph, thanks for the congrats. The paint I used was Krylon ColorMaster "Peekaboo Blue".
  2. The first second car in my family didn't happen until 1970. I bought a '62 Impala in April of my junior year in HS. I didn't have my learners permit yet but my folks registered it and my father used it until I got my license in September. After I got my license I'd take him to his job before school and would pick him up if he wasn't working OT. My mom would pick him up at 6PM if he was working OT when she left her job at 5. Our other car at the time was a 68 Falcon wagon that my mother used to commute to her job. During the 50's and through most of the 60's most of our neighbors were a single car family. Of the 50 homes in my neighborhood there were probably only 5 or 6 that were a 2 car family. There were a few older guys in my neighborhood that had their own car in the 60's but I wouldn't say they were a 2 car family.
  3. Nick, I don't know how they determine the award winners. I was told that someone from the GoodGuys checks out the models and picks the winners. It may be that a certain model catches their eye and that determines an award winner. It is definitely not a judged show, I know this build wouldn't win an award if it was judged. Thanks for the congrats.
  4. I don't know how it happened but my sedan won the Best 40's award at the GoodGuys show this weekend in Charlotte. It certainly wasn't the best build there but I'm quite pleased with the award.
  5. My friend John Kennaugh took home the award for the Best 50's theme with his '32 Ford roadster. I took home the Best 40's with my '40 Ford sedan
  6. Pictures from this weekends GoodGuys show at Charlotte Motor Speedway. I brought my '40 Ford Coupe and Sedan,'63 Olds and the three original 60's buildups that were built by an unknown builder. Thanks to Steve Clancy (Ridge Runner)for sending me one of the racks I needed to display the go kart on the bed of the '63 F100. I had problems with my camera and couldn't take as many pictures as I would have liked to.
  7. Mike, the Model and Pedal Car Show/Display is from Friday through Sunday. It's held in the Nation Wide Garage near the Auto Cross. There is no entry fee and there are awards in about 10 different categories.
  8. I'll be bringing a few of my most recent builds. I'm also bringing several kits that were built in 1963 by an unknown builder that I bought years ago at the Turkey Rod Run. Hope to see some of you there.
  9. No problem. If he still offers it, you can get a body kit. You get the body, glass, and un plated bumpers/grill. The body will not have any of the chrome trim or tail lights painted. The last time I bought some kits they were $15.00 compared to $44.00 for a finished body. Also his shipping is very reasonable.
  10. Need to see a picture of the chassis you plan on using.
  11. MEV HO has a resin '62 Galaxie two door hardtop. www.tjets.com
  12. I'll be there from Thursday until Saturday afternoon helping a friend that is vending there. We'll be in the Orange Field spaces KO 5 and 6. Stop by and say HI if you get a chance. Frank
  13. Thanks for the replies. I'm going to update the original post with all the kits so we have a source list. I know the Stooges tires From the kit I have are the same as the Parts Pack tires. I'll note each listing with a PP next to it for same as Parts Pack tires
  14. Mark, would that be the Super Wagon Kit that had the Retro label on it? I believe it is kit# AMT701. Those would be the narrow whitewalls, correct ?
  15. I'm trying to find out which of the new AMT releases come with the new Firestone whitewalls. I know they are in the following kits; Kits with PP next to it means it has been verified as the same as Parts Pack tires. Wide Whitewalls Three Stooges '40 Ford SD PP '36 Ford coupe/roadster Retro Style Box '49 Mercury Retro Style Box Narrow Stripe '65 Chevelle SW Super Wagon '62 Chevy Northwind Any others ? Thanks to Mark and Brett for their contributions to this list
  16. From what I've heard the loss of the Cadillac script was due to a licensing issue. Supposedly it wasn't an issue with GM but with Ford.
  17. Tim, thanks for the link to the 46/48 Ford pictures. I certainly hope Revell does a stock height roof variation, I think it would outsell the custom version.
  18. Great photos Tim. There were certainly a lot '46 to 48 Fords with stock height roofs.
  19. The tri bar wheel covers from the original issue '49 Ford. The custom wheel covers from the original '34 Ford PU. The Moon discs from the original Trophy Series '32 & '40 Fords. Any period correct wheel covers for 50's and 60's customs. I hate to sound like a broken record but, I'd like to see the '32 Ford coupe reissued as the original Trophy kit. I know it was reissued a few years ago but it didn't have the cycle fenders, cutaway hood and several other original pieces.
  20. Cameron, an AMT '69 Galaxie kit also has an FE engine with a Hilborn FI manifold. Perhaps that may work out for you with modifications for the Webers. I don't have one but perhaps someone else may have one you could try.
  21. Joe and Ace, thanks for the kind words. I'm trying a few different techniques with this build such as bead blasting the tires and a little extra detail painting. Ace, when you go to build your kits there are a few things to watch out for. There were a lot of parting lines in my kit. I broke a couple of pieces removing the lines. Also, sand the edges of the windshield before fitting it to the frame. I should have. The fit of the two after gluing wound up cracking the bottom of the frame. Lesson learned for my next build of this kit down the road. You may need to shave some material off the cab were the frame slides in. I also beveled the inside of the top of the cab for a better fit.
  22. An update as of today. Engine painted, after looking at the photo's I see a little touchup is required. I painted around the rear window of the cab to simulate a gasket. I'm not sure if that is correct or not as I couldn't find any reference pics. If not it at least adds some contrast to the tan body. I also painted the inside lip of the clear back window. Started assembly of the chassis and components, waiting for the cement to set up before going any further. Attempted to detail paint the hood emblems, handles & catches. Looks better in person plus it's going to be a shelf model. Finally had a break in the weather with only 50% humidity to get some paint on the fenders. One setback was somehow the windshield has mysteriously disappeared. I'd like to blame it on the cat but I don't have one! Luckily I had a parts kit but that windshield was scratched worse than the one that was "misplaced". I sanded it out working up to a 12,000 grit cloth & brushed on some Future. It will have to do. A quick mockup of how it will look. The only component I painted was the fender assembly. The rest of the components will be the molded tan color that I polished out. I am going to wait until the weekend to start the final assembly as I want the painted fenders to finish gassing out.
  23. Art, I see that now after looking at the pictures above and a sedan roof.
  24. I have to agree with Tony. I don't have any early bodies to compare, but the later kits did away with the hood clip.
