Questions about AMT 67 Barracuda and MPC 68 & 69 Barracuda's
VW93 replied to VW93's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for the info PM sent -
A few questions about the AMT 67 Barracuda and the MPC 68 and 69 Barracuda's First, did the AMT 67 tooling wind up at MPC? Next, can the current 69 Barracuda body be used to backdate to a 67 Barracuda using the parts available from the Modelhaus. Planned on using the Formula S hood, grille, bumpers, lower pans and taillights. Building a body only to be used as a drag slot car. I'm assuming the hood would fit with no problems, not sure about the fit of the rest of the parts needed to backdate to a 67. Finally, has anyone done the conversion ? Thanks

The AMT 58 Chevy has a tube grille you may be able to modify.

I knew that you were suggesting a group build of the Charger and that it didn't have to be a HS type ride build. I'm definitely interested in joining in on one.
-
I don't remember any at my HS either (class of 71). It also could be due to their low production #'s, 37,300 +/- for 1966, 15,788 +/- for 1967. Charger sales didn't take off until 1968 when over 92,000 were sold

New releases at Hobby Lobby
VW93 replied to VW93's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In the past when I printed coupons, if I walked the aisle and didn't find something I needed/wanted, I would hand the coupon to another shopper. Today I mention to others to use their smartphone for the 40% off coupon. I usually buy paint or some other supply if I do not find a kit I want with my coupon. Also, you can ask the person in the model section to special order any kit they usually stock. Most of their stock levels are set at 1 or 2 for each kit. My store gets their restock in on Tuesday. Sometimes the kit you are looking for will be sold out in a few days. My HL will order what you want and hold it for 2 weeks. -
Looks like a custom that would have been featured In Car Craft or one of the other magazines back in the 60's. It certainly has that look.

Great idea to use the Citation body. I lost interest in the North East modifieds when they all started using the Cavalier bodies. The coupes and coaches were my favorites, I didn't mind the transition to the Pinto's, Vega's, Gremlins and so on..The use of the Citation reminds me of the Pinto/ Vega era. Really nice work.

Picked up the 57 Ford Del Rio wagon at Hobby Lobby today, about 16.80 with tax with my 40 off coupon.

Stopped in at the Hobby Lobby in Mooresville NC this afternoon. Quite a few empty spaces but the tags were on the shelves for the new releases. Found the person that handles the area and asked if they had any of the kits that belonged there. She told me that they just finished putting the tags up for the new additions but the kits had not been priced yet. That was why they weren't available on the shelves. She was able to get me the 57 Ford wagon from the stockroom and I bought it with my 40% off coupon. So, if you are at Hobby Lobby and see a tag where a new release should be, ask the sales staff if it is still in the storeroom. Many of you probably have a HL that is close by, mine is 70 miles round trip.

Another test

I'd be in for a group build, I already have a Buyers Choice edition.. I've wanted to build one as a former 60's Super Stocker that was converted to run brackets due to NHRA rule changes. I'm also considering waiting for the new release before I build so it has the better white plastic.

Kevin, thanks for posting the link. Some functions of the new forum do not work for me compared to the old forum.

Ace, I know what you mean about the older kits and the memories of building them. I am grateful to Round2 and Revell/Monogram for reissuing some of the older kits from back in the day. It gives me a chance to buy now what I couldn't/didn't back then. My skills haven't greatly improved since then but it is still fun to build them as they were.

I was 14 when Cool Hand Luke was released in 1967. Needless to say that scene was very memorable! In the credits for the movie Joy Harmon is credited as "The Girl". More info about her can be found on the Internet Movie Data Base or IMDB . I tried to post a link but couldn't get it to work.
-
I'd go with Lucille or Barbara, Linda, Tina or some other popular name for someone that probably was born in the late 20's or early 30's. The scene looks like it was set in 1947 judging by the 40's style 2 piece swim suit. If she was wearing a string bikini and had tats and piercings I'd go with a Kayla, Brandy, Tiffany, or some other popular name used today.

I'm glad they are tooling up the original style rims for the reissue but it would be interesting to see/know what may still be on the original tool. I'm only guessing that it would be more cost effective to restore parts of the tool than to do new tooling. I could be wrong about this and I've known to be wrong about a few things in the past. Any other parts from the original tooling that could be added would be a huge plus.

I'll definitely be getting one of the Katt bobble heads along with a Charger. It would be great if they could open up all the closed gates on the Charger to see what is there. The original 67 issue had quite a few front suspension pieces that are missing on later issues. Also the open steel wheels, stock wheel covers and seeing if the exhaust system is still part of the rear axle assembly. I give Round2 credit for giving us these older parts with the reissues, I just wish more of the old parts would be available in the reissues.

I'm still having problems posting photos unless I take files from my computer. I just tried from Photo Bucket and it did not work so I deleted it. Hopefully an easier method of posting pictures will be available, I'll wait until then. As a few others have said the preview post feature would be great to have back. Other then the picture posting problem and the preview post feature missing I find the new forum look OK.

Thanks for the report of the contents. I think I'll pass on this reissue as I already have two previous issues.

That may be the case Tom. If they spent a few dollars to upgrade with new parts, decals and tires they will probably have increased sales and be able to "pay off that mortgage" sooner. I have bought the reissued 36 Ford (2), 37 Chevy (2), 40 Ford coupe (1), 32 Viky (1) because of the newly added parts. I already had (6) 36 Fords,(4) 37 Chevys, (7) 40 Ford coupes, and (2) 32 Vikys.. Did I really need the reissues? Bought them because of the new parts, tires and decals.
