  1. Looking forward to tomorrow! Just finished loading 27 boxes with about 300 kits in them. I'll have two tables with kits and resin bodies from Fast Trax Resins at the show. Look for the old guy wearing a black AMT 50 Year Anniversary sweatshirt.
  2. Those decals are disappointing, thankfully I've plenty of parts box decals. The contingency and race car in tow decals are about the useful ones on the sheet.
  3. Since I do my spray painting outdoors and the weather hasn't been cooperating I've only accomplished a little on this build . I cut out the gauge panel and will replace it with sheet styrene and decals for a tach and water & oil pressure gauges. I also punched out two pieces of .010 styrene with a hole punch and covered the seat mounting openings on the bottom of the interior. I'm also going to hang a gas pedal from the dash. The floorboards look a bit tight to fit the Moon pedal and it looks lousy sitting partially on the transmission hump. Did get some color on some parts. All painting has been done with Tamiya white primer with Testors Diamond Dust as a base coat. The roll bar and ladder bars were painted with Testors Icy Blue lacquer. The inner firewall, steering wheel, roll bar padding, dash and seats were done with Testors enamel Blue Metal Flake.
  4. I like it. The 40 Fords are one of my favorite kits.
  5. The Buick Grand National Buick GNX's were also tooled in the late 80's.
  6. Had it together with Elmers while I was checking the interior fit and how much of the inside firewall can be seen with the Interior. I'll mock it up again tonight and take one tomorrow and send it to you in a PM. I don't want to clog up your thread
  7. Thanks, yours fit so well and I've got a decent size gap on the bottom of the firewall on both sides. Will have to do a bit more test fitting. I already filed the hinge bar and caps to open them up a bit. Will just have to see how it all goes together.
  8. I reserved a vendors table the other night. Hope to have some time to get a few pics of the contest.
  9. What did you do to get the front end and the body to line up? The other pics seem to show the firewall attached without any gaps to the cowl. I was thinking of using some small pieces of styrene angle to do the same on my 49 coupe.
  10. Dave, I'll get back to you tomorrow if my buddy doesn't want the parts.
  11. I was given several boxes of parts years ago and am trying to see what kits they are for. I am assuming these were from an AMT Funny Car kit from ?. I don't have a need for them and if none of my friends need them I'll be posting them in the trade thread. Thanks
  12. Got a few more parts painted for my 40 Willys build and started going through some parts kits I need to do something with.
  13. Should be able to start some assembly this week. Put some color on a fair amount of parts today, need to let them to gas out and dry totally before I go any further with them. Have some parts that still need to be brush painted and I need to finish cutting out the dash panel. I do my painting outdoors and tomorrows weather looks good with temps near 60 and low humidity. Want to get the body components primed tomorrow and hopefully get the first color coat on them on Tuesday.
  14. From a past experience with a 60% off coupon at Michaels. Went to Michaels and went to pull up the 60 off coupon on my phone & it wouldn't load. I told the cashier that Michaels had a 60 % off coupon and couldn't get it on my phone. She said others were having the same problem and proceeded to give me the 60% off.
  15. I need to vent! Started a build on the AMT 40 Willys coupe from the last retro release. I've posted pics in my build thread of what I've encountered. Along with excessive flash on virtually every part (the chrome tree was OK ), I found that the tires fall off the rims, the rims fall off the axles and the axle does not even go into one rim. Now I've discovered the rear window was molded in an oblong shape. Just glad it wasn't a windshield that would need to fit a frame such as in the AMT 34 Ford PU. You have to wonder if the Chinese send a test shot to the states to be looked over or does R2 leave it to the Chinese? I hope they really look over their newly tooled 67 Impala 4 door, 70 Camaro and Vega Pro Stock. I realize the tooling for the Willys dates back to around 1963 but they shouldn't be selling kits without fixing the problems. Rant over
  16. Kits like this is probably one of the reasons so many of us have unfinished projects on the back burner. I build for myself and the shelf but this one has been challenging. Besides all the flash the tires fall off the rims and the rims fall off the axles. Frustrating! My goal is to finish this one before I start something else.
  17. Did some painting of the components for "Flashed", my 40 Willys coupe build. Nearly all the parts have been primed and I've started getting some color on them.
  18. Going to go with the Icy Blue over a Silver Diamond Dust base as the interior will be a dark blue metal flake. The Star Spangled Blue is dark and I want a little contrast with the colors.
  19. I had a 73 340 Duster that I took delivery on 8/31/72 that was the same color. Mine had a honey gold bench seat interior, black rubber mat instead of carpet, 4 speed, dog dish caps and stripe delete. I was 19 at the time and wanted a "sleeper". Quick car, only other options were PDB (required with 340's) 3:23 Sure Grip and an AM/FM radio. Got hit head on by a drunk driver in May of '74 and it was totaled. I miss it, was my favorite of all the cars I've owned.
  20. I'm going to follow this and your Maverick build. All the finished models you have posted are outstanding, hope to get a few ideas from your building process.
  21. What works best, wash then dullcoat or dullcoat then apply the wash? Thanks
  22. Hobby Lobby for some paint and I bought this 10 well artists palette with a snap on cover at Michaels. Used it yesterday after I thinned out some matte aluminum paint. Painted my parts and snapped the cover on it. I checked the parts I painted this AM and saw that I missed a few spots. Took the cover off and the paint had not dried out. Stirred it and was able to touch up the parts without any problems. A little over a dollar after a 40% coupon.
  23. Memory is a little fuzzy but I believe Bill Geary had a build going on years ago with a working top.
