  1. I did make that comment in my original post. 2 years vs almost 1 year. Yet a 4 to 1 ratio. the whole point of my original post was just to point out something kind of funny, at least to me. Well, funny and sad at the same time. I don't see what I posted as complaining. Just pointing out a somewhat amusing fact. Russ
  2. I was using it a lot on my phone. I deleted the forum website from it earlier today. The change did NOT make it better for me on my phone. There hopefully were legitimate reasons for the change. Odds are the previous software is not being supported anymore. At least that is what has caused change on lots of other forums I participate on. If this change was truly to get the "younger" crowd to participate, please pass around whatever it is being smoked. And if that is truly the reason, why the heck doesn't the magazine offer a digital version? Like I said in the other thread, you get what you pay for and this is free. It's Gregg's playground. We either put up with the changes he wants or leave. As long as it works ok on my pc I will stay here. Assuming I don't get banned for the earlier comment. Russ
  3. Here is my take. You get what you pay for, and this is a free forum. That being said, personally I am not a fan of the changes. On my PC with Windows 7 it isn't TOO bad, but on my Droid Turbo it does not work anywhere near as good as the old version. I am probably going to give up using my phone to access the forum, but as long as nothing else comes up I will stay here on the PC. Russ
  4. I realise that the irked thread is a year older than the pleased thread, roughly 2 years to 1 year. Yet there are 4 times the number of irked posts. Now, I have not read them, so the gross numbers may not be an accurate measurement. You would hope that there would be more pleased posts. But maybe that is why we have so many threads that go bad. There are just more irked people than please people? Just a thought. Yes, I am not well. Thoughts? Russ
  5. Yep. It had the Falcon dash with the long more rectangular looking speedometer, not the later round one. Friend had one in high school, another friend had a 67, and I had a 69. Those were the days. Russ
  6. Chat room question. I don't really use chat much anywhere, but just wanted to see what it looked like here. got the following message. " Sorry, there is a problem The chat room limit has been reached. You will not be able to join the chat room until some users first leave.Error code: 1H269/B" So what is the chat room size? and how do you turn off the stupid B I and U functions now and go back to single spaced lines? Thanks, Russ
  7. Something to watch out for is "ghosting" (I believe it's called). This is where the image of what you removed comes back after painting. You have to prep it after removing the trim, door handles, whatever it is you are removing. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in. Russ
  8. Thanks. I was just hoping to build the Coupe for the friend who gave me this model, along with a couple of others. He would have gotten a kick out of the Babe Ruth car. But I will just build this one OOB I suppose. Russ
  9. I don't know. All these kits Greg posts makes me sad. Sad that I can't afford them all that is. I love seeing them. I think the artwork was just so much better back then, a re-release with that artwork to me is a must have. Thanks Greg. Russ
  10. My first thought was the same as Bill's. Around here keeping them dust free is the hard part. The Tamiya suggestion is good. Also check out some military modeling sites/magazines. Those guys are experts at weathering kits. For some reason they LIKE having their models looking used and abused. Russ
  11. I know this is considered a bad kit, but it was given to me and I want to build it up for the person who did that. Please don't turn this into a thread about how bad the kit is. I was starting some online research on this car, and found out that Babe Ruth was given a 48 Hardtop Coupe by Ford and thought that would be something the person who gave this to me would like so I am looking to see if there is either a hardtop top or full body available. If not then I will just build this OOB with some detailing. Thanks, Russ
  12. I did ask through the website and the person just said that it wasn't offered. Why in this day and time wouldn't a magazine want to have a digital version? I had a digital subscription to the other magazine before I quit building for a while, really liked it. I really don't like the paper versions anymore, they just clutter up the house plus there is the unreliability of the mail delivery. It is very convenient to just read it with my phone wherever I happen to be. That is how I read books these days. Nice also to be able to enlarge the screen if needed, which I normally have to do anymore. I wanted to resubscribe (been a while), but I just don't do paper anymore for these things. Wasn't sure where to post this. Russ
  13. Art, if you are going to bring logic and reasonable thought into this topic I don't know what to say. Ben, that is YOUR definition, not everybody's. Otherwise I will bring up the "if you really are a modeler all you need is a block of wood and a knife" argument. And there are a few ( at least) on here that could probably do that. But just because you can doesn't mean you want to. Russ
  14. Hobby HQ on 59th Ave and Greenway. Russ
  15. I just bought this model today (okay, technically yesterday now. Friday). It's for a club theme build. The owner/operator of the hobby shop I went to told me "you just got the last one I had, it's been discontinued". I told him he was told wrong, he gave me the same story "Revell's owner/distributor has said it's been discontinued." I told him whoever told him that was mistaken, it has just sold out, been a big discussion on the internet about this, etc. I don't think he believed me. Oh well. We will probably keep hearing this until the next release shows up at the hobby stores. Russ
  16. Is the link above for modelcarencyclopedia.com correct? My provider (Cox, and no not the old gas powered stuff Cox ) says it can't find it. Thanks, Russ
  17. Yeah. that is it. I didn't have the address, just was looking for it based on the info someone posted earlier. I didn't see it, but my wife did. It is really small. I didn't get the address, although it may be on the receipt. The only sign I saw was in the window. Almost one of those if you don't know where it is you aren't supposed to go there things. He does have a couple of display cabinets, and surprisingly one is pretty full of car models. Russ
  18. Yes, I know I can order it from several places, including the manufacturer. I just would rather not have to. I did find some today at Hobby Depot in Tempe. I found a few other things and just happened to ask during checkout. They keep it hidden in a plastic storage thing. No, not a sealed one. They do seem to have a fair amount of aftermarket stuff on the wall also. I was surprised they hid the BMF. I also managed to find the other place. It is called Avalon Books and Hobbies or something like that. It's in a small strip mall a block or two north of the Goodwill mentioned above. Not much car stuff and nothing new. All opened and some started. But I did find the AMT Drag Gasser wheels and tires, though they only had the one. And a book that mentioned the submarine I served on. This place is really an airplane and armor shop, and some ships. Had more sci-fi than cars. And tons of reference books and detail stuff for those subjects. Not wheelchair accessible if that is an issue for anyone. My wife is in one most of the time and she would not have been able to get much past the entry. Very small place. Owner seemed very friendly however. Russ
  19. Thanks. I may give it a try at some point. The solvent free part is a major plus for me, I have several health issues. I'm trying to go solvent free as much as possible, but I don't think that is possible for everything in this hobby. Russ
  20. http://www.amazon.com/DELUXE-MATERIALS-DLXBD044-Perfect-Plastic/dp/B0076LAVFK/ref=pd_bxgy_21_text_z I came across this stuff while looking at the Trumpeter Parting Line Engraver that was recommended in another post and this stuff was listed as a suggested "frequently bought together" from Amazon. It's water based, which is good from a health standpoint, but does it really work? Seems a tad expensive, but I don't know whether the size is comparable with other putties. If it works it would be worth it just for the no fume part to me at least. Thanks, Russ
  21. I used to be able to take a slightly extended lunch and go there. I do miss those days. Both being able to go there and working. Russ
  22. Amazon is still showing the full box with the flag. http://www.amazon.com/Round-Dukes-Hazzard-General-Charger/dp/B003B7JGOK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1436066827&sr=8-2&keywords=round+2+model+kits Yay Amazon. Russ
  23. I am hoping to go over there this week. I have some scrap car parts I need to take to a place in Mesa to get a whole $20 dollars, but that will pay for some model stuff, and then I can stop there on the way home. Russ
  24. As far as old stock, that is a possibility when buying from a shop as well, depending on their turnover. or how long it sat in their supplier's warehouse. I have a ton of this stuff, problem is most of it is waaaay old ( newest is over 2-3 years) and would probably need new adhesive to even have a chance of sticking. Plus right now all I know is it is in a box "somewhere around here". As far as ordering it goes, I would prefer local for both being able to get it in my hands "now", and to support local shops. But if they are just going to order it for me, I'll do it myself and skip the middle man. I don't build enough to be going to a shop every week. If I was, then maybe then I'd have them do it for me. Thanks, Russ
  25. Road trip! always willing to check out a new to me place. Left hand side going north or south? Thanks, Russ
