  1. Thanks, I'll try the white as a primer, and eventually get some of the other actual primer stuff. I needed flat white and flat black anyway, so I will see how this stuff works for that as well. Russ
  2. Thanks. Right now I just wanted some foil for a 57 Chevy I am going to be starting on, but in the future I will be needing more and was hoping to find a local place that carries the full line. As far as having a store order it, why? I don 't see the point of having a local store order something I can order. In the far past before the internet, that was a great way to go, but not today. If I have to wait for it anyway, I will just go online and have it delivered to my house. And as far as talking to anyone at the stores, my take is if it isn't on the shelf it isn't available. Again, see above about ordering. Now, if there is a labeled spot for say BMF aluminum, and it is empty, I will ask if they have any in back. Because I then know they stock it. But if they just have a pile of various types, nope, won't ask. I do need to go to Hobby Depot one of these days to check them out. I used to go there almost exclusively 10-20 years ago, but that was with the old owner and before I moved to Ohio 9 years ago. I stopped by there once last year when I first moved back here and wasn't impressed-the stock of car stuff was almost nil, but maybe they have improved over the last year. Although the HobbyTown at 35th and Greenway actually got worse the past year, so improvement isn't a sure thing. I won't be going back to that Hobbytown again. They obviously don't want or care about car modelers. As far as Hobby Bench, that is the one I couldn't remember the name. At least at the one on 43rd and Bell, they don't carry BMF according to the kid behind the counter. If the one on 19th does I will check them out, but I would think they all would carry the same stock? Of course this kid knew nothing about model cars, but ask him about RC and he seems to really know his stuff there. Overheard him talking to another customer about that stuff. Thanks, Russ
  3. Another good workable for me option. Thanks! Russ
  4. Note to self, remember to click on the Post button before clicking on a link posted. Oh, I was confused then. Thought that there was an actual "primer grey" with this. Not a problem, I'll buy both and give the white a shot as the primer. Thanks! Russ
  5. Or other aftermarket stuff? Sigh. I live in Glendale, and went to the three closest to me shops this week. Hobby HQ(59th and Greenway), Hobbytown (35th and Greenway, lousy supply of car kits, worse than when they opened a year ago it seemed btw), and Hobby something on 43rd and Bell same corner as the Whataburger(sorry, I seem to have a mental block when it comes to remembering this place's name) and all of them only had a couple of packs each store, and none had a full line. So is there a good place to go for supplies like this these days or am I stuck with online? I don't mind online ordering at times, but I like local if I can. Sometimes I need instant gratification. Hobby Depot in Tempe used to be really well stocked with this sort of stuff, but other than one quick stop there last year it has been about a dozen years since I really shopped there. I don't mind the drive if it is still worth going to though. I am open to all the valley really. Thanks, Russ
  6. I went to a couple of WalMarts the last few days looking for this. They have 2 cheap paint brands, one is $0.99 a can and they only (at least around here) have it in black and white. The other one is about $1.69 a can and they have several colors, including a grey primer. I just don't want to buy the second one if that is not the proper one. I'll just buy a more expensive known brand if that isn't it. But being cheap is a good thing if I can do it since I am not really working. Thanks, Russ
  7. Thanks! Sounds like a few options I can do to consider. Didn't know the whole thing was not stainless. Russ
  8. here is the link to the ebay model. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-Chevy-Macon-County-lots-of-detail-1-25-Scale-PLASTIC-MODEL-CAR-/291498117039?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43dea447af Then click on the view original listing to see all the pictures and stuff. You can search completed and sold auctions in the advanced search. Edit, the seller's shipping charge seems totally insane to me. Yeah, I know, Ebay idiots. Wonder why no one bid on it? hth, Russ
  9. Thanks. That is my gut instinct, I just want to make sure I am not missing something else. Russ
  10. I did try searching as Harry posted, but I probably didn't use the right search words. This is for the old Revell kit that was released most recently as the Ed Roth car. Yes, I know, but this is a nostalgia thing for me. I was 9 when the 1968 release came out and that was when I built it. I thought that this trim was stainless but I am not sure. If it is, apparently the Bare Metal Foil people don't make any in stainless, I had thought they did several years ago, but I am probably wrong. Anyway, it is not listed on their online site. So what can I do to make this look reasonably realistic? I can't afford the Model Car Garage PE kit for the AMT 57, even if that would work. Since they don't list this kit I have to believe they know what they are talking about. Should I use a chrome foil? Metallizer paint? Something else? This isn't for any sort of contest, just something I want to redo from my youth as well as I can now. Thanks, Russ
  11. Dumb question. How do you make parts with these? Do you have to have a mold, or do you use an original part, or ??? Apparently I didn't have one of these when I was a kid. Thought I did but I was thinking of something else. I am looking at the link posted above, but so far all I am seeing is things like replacement parts for them. Update. I found the instructions on that site for it. Guess you do need a mold of some sort. Do most of you use a kit part as a mold, or do you do something else? This is definitely one of those things I need to see to fully understand I think. Thanks. Russ
  12. Or even a kit source, but I think it would be more affordable for me to just buy the fan. I've seen generic electric radiator fans, but I need the Mk VIII fan to replicate the one in my Ranchero. Thanks, Russ
  13. Thanks! Bit pricey for now, maybe someday. The built Ranchero is actually the same color as mine. Except mine is a lot more faded and rusty. and I'd have to remove the console, got the buckets in mine but no console. A few things on the Pinto might need changed. The 74 was the first year of the big ugly bumpers, but I am hoping to put the skinny ones on mine. And I am not positive about the grille and headlights. Not an expert by any means especially on the years before 74, and to make it worse mine came with only a piece of the grille. Russ
  14. I know this is a fairly old post, but wanted to give my point of view. I don't KNOW what I need until I see it. Therefore having to call or email to ask if someone makes/sells something isn't going to happen for me because I don't know I need or want that part. I doubt if I am the only one like that. I am just a casual modeler and don't keep track of who sells what. That is what my favorites button is for. I understand about illness, and I am not complaining about that issue. It's just that this thread along with several others have gotten me to want to comment in general about businesses and websites. And yes, if you are selling a product, even if it is just part time, it is a business. But in today's world having a functioning website with a full catalog and pricing at least to me is a requirement, not an option. If you (generic) don't want a website because you think you will get too many orders, I can assure you that I won't be bothering you with an order. I literally just a half hour ago ordered something from a link that was posted here in another thread. I won't order something if I have to call or email or pm someone just to find out how much, if they even sell it. I'd be willing to send a sase to get a list with prices before I would do that. I don't buy stuff without knowing the asking price upfront before even talking to someone about it. Don't want to waste anyone's time if the price is out of my budget. Speaking of budget, this is a hobby and I can't really plan a budget for it. So today I might have the money, but by the time someone gets back to me with price and availability a lot of the time my little bit of extra money has been spent elsewhere. Like what I bought earlier online. If I had to wait until Friday, something may have come up and I'd have to wait another week or even longer. Granted what I bought tonight was very inexpensive, but usually I end up having to pass on something if I have to delay the purchase. Being broke and unemployed doesn't lend itself to lots of extra buying. I'm going through this with my wife, who is a crafter and wants to sell stuff but is complaining no one wants to buy from her. She needs a website, not just posting on Facebook or Etsy or other such. But that probably isn't going to happen for her, so she won't be selling much. So she has gotten herself too depressed and now won't even craft. She expected to be able to treat this as a hobby but make lots of money doing it. Wrong. Just my opinion. Heard that Paul is doing better in another thread, glad to hear that. Russ
  15. Thanks for the link. I just ordered his gauge decals for the 57 Chevy I am getting ready to start, and odds are I will be buying from him again for other kits. $2.49 shipped can't be beat. Russ
  16. I had seen an ebay auction for the 69 Mustang Grande that was mentioned a few pages back early in 2014. It had sold already( apparently to the poster here who never got his), and me being desperate for a 69 Coupe I asked if he had another he would be putting on ebay. He said he had one that he would just sell to me. Not having read anything about him I agreed and sent the money. Which meant no recourse thru Ebay or Paypal. Yes, I can be an idiot at times. We moved three months later in a bit of a rush (sudden opportunity/necessity) back to Phoenix and I kind of forgot about who I had bought it from but never received it. Well, this thread answered that question. I try to give him the benefit of the doubt and say to myself that it just got lost somewhere with the address change, but so far that hasn't helped me feel any better towards him. Russ
  17. 1969 Ford Mustang Coupe/Notchback. (My first running car, took my driver's license test in mine in 76.) 1965 Olds Dynamic 88. 2 door(not even sure if they came in a 4 door. My first car. Never ran) 1972 Ford Ranchero GT. (Current daily driver when it isn't being modified.) 1974 Ford Pinto Station Wagon. (Project car, plan is for a 351C engine and 9 inch rear. Basically Pro Street.) If any of these are available already please let me know where. Thanks, Russ
  18. Thanks, guys. I knew that ROG was considered an import here, but didn't realize how much the cost difference was. Ouch. Russ
  19. Wow, didn't expect to see Squeeg's name pop up. And yes, that is the proper spelling, although I had to go check my t-shirt from his shop to make sure. He and my dad are very close friends, he even pinstriped a bike my dad painted for me when I was about 7 (1966 or so) back in Ohio. He and his then girlfriend Betsy lived with us when they first moved to Phoenix (around 1974 or 75, I forget now). My dad was always over at the shop on I think Thursday nights for years. Doug is supposed to be better than his dad Squeeg, but I haven't seen his work, was out of state for 8 years and I just haven't made an effort since returning. Seeing stuff I can never afford got too depressing after a while. Anyway, back on topic. About the Foose model cars. I too hope these sell like crazy. Those are the kinds of cars many kids today identify with. Personally, while he seems like a great person I just don't care for his style of customs. Didn't like the Coddington stuff either. Both do/did outstanding work. I was taken to too many custom shows in the 60's I guess, but that era customs are what I love. As far as being one time only sales, how about all the Tom Daniels stuff? Those are my favorite models and they seem to still be selling well enough for Revell to bring them back every few years. Ed Roth kits as well. The kids today may very well be nostalgic and want the Foose cars they built as kids to be available when they are getting older like us here today. All just IMHO of course. Well, not the stuff about Squeeg. That is fact. Russ
  20. I really like the slotted mags the S&H has. Might be worth it just for that. Question, if I may. Why does it matter that the kits mentioned (other than the S&H) will only be available in the Revell of Germany box? Not being a foreign car type builder I honestly don't understand. Does the make them more expensive here in the US? That I could understand. Sorry, clueless person here. Thanks, Russ
  21. I voted no, but most cars I build are Revell/Monogram/AMT types so maybe I don't see the need. Heck, I still miss metal axles. Got to ask, what is a paddle blade? Thanks, Russ
  22. The Badman has always been in my top 10 of kits overall. I don't know why, but it just is. It's not the greatest kit by any stretch of the imagination, but I just love the car. Russ
  23. Haven't been on here for a long time. Was in Hobby Lobby in Glendale the other day and they had the Ed Roth 57 Chevy clearanced. First model I have bought in about a year after selling most of my stash. Been wanting that one since it is the old kit with opening doors and trunk. Built it as a kid late 60's, always wanted to try it again. My wife has taken over my modelling area though so it might be a while. Russ
  24. Hey. I said if I was wrong I was sorry. Guess you aren't willing to accept that. fine. As far as IMHO, lots of people don't know what that means, and you certainly acted like you didn't. As far as this goes at this point, I can't say what I want to now because I would rather not get banned. Russ
