Don't you just hate it......
russosborne replied to DerthDeboblo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree with Steve and Rich. Back when I was really doing a lot of buying on Ebay, I would just bid my max and wait to get the email saying I won or I got outbid. If I am willing to pay $35 for something that is my bid. Most times when I won it was for less than my max. And when I would get outbid, it usually sold for far more than my max. Sometimes it would show up as only being for a dollar more, but who knows how much the other guy's max bid was? I don't, and don't care. My max is my max, and not a penny more. If I didn't win life went on. Made my life much less stressful and simpler. I would find stuff occassionaly that I had missed and it only had a minute or two to go. Being somewhat slow at times typing I did miss out on bidding sometimes, but oh well. That was the closest I got to sniping, and it wasn't intentional. I wasn't in it to beat the other guy. Just wanted to buy something at a price I could live with. Russ -
Manufactured Paint spray booth
russosborne replied to Yenkocamaro's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've only used it a couple of times, and that was over 2 years ago. Haven't really done anything since we moved here then. Yeah, similar type motor. While looking at it I was thinking it might not be too hard to change it to a squirrel cage type motor so it would be safe for lacquers. But I'm not going to do that at this point. I always get a bad case of "while I'm at its" when I start doing stuff. I'd end up with a completely different booth by the time I was done. If I really need to spray hotter paint I just go outside. That is one advantage of being in the Phoenix area. No snow. I haven't changed the filter, but it seems pretty easy. I honestly don't remember about the turntable. That may have been an add on. I bought this thru Amazon. Russ -

Sorry it took me an extra day. Let's see if I can get these pictures posted. I hope this helps. Russ -
Well, I will gladly accept any unwanted Pyro kits anyone wants to send me. I have fond memories of them as a kid. But then again, I am not concerned if it looks "right". My fun is in building them. Russ

I'll try to remember when I get home later tonight. It will be tomorrow evening before I could post it. Russ -
Thanks. Looks like this will be close enough for me. Just want a reminder of my wild youth. Russ

Any model clubs in Az ?
russosborne replied to Matt.y's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Danno should be along to give details, but yes. http://www.moonlightmodelers.com/index.html http://www.cactuscarmodelers.com/ I am a member of moonlight, only because one is plenty for me. Lots of people are members of both. And all good people. I live in Glendale as well. 47th and Olive. Russ -
Does anyone know specifics as to what bike/engine/etc these are supposed to be? I just remembered (yes, brain is seriously going) that I bought a used Yamaha IT 175 dirt bike in about 1984 and it looks like this could be close enough for me to make it worth buying. Thanks, Russ

Manufactured Paint spray booth
russosborne replied to Yenkocamaro's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Must be a popular one, I have it also. Great for car bodies, small parts. Like someone said above, might not be great for a semi trailer sized piece. Also as mentioned, it is only approved for water based paints. You might be fine with other paints, but I wouldn't risk it. I am one of those that if it can go wrong it will. I plan on finding a permanent location for it so I can route the exhaust outside. One of these days. Russ -
How long do your Zona's last
russosborne replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What all do you cut with them? I have one, but only use it sparingly on plastic, nothing else. Sparingly because I don't build much lately. Russ -
Just to be fair, there were a couple of comments in the Changes to the Magazine thread in the General section. Russ

Tim (and others) It sounds like this time it was just a photo issue, but personally I want to know all the problems with a kit before I buy it. If I know there is something wrong and choose to buy it anyway no problem. However, if I don't know there is a problem before buying it, will the model company give me my money back when I find something wrong I wasn't expecting and don't want to deal with? Probably not, correct? So I have NO problems with people bringing up issues. To tell me that I have to wait and buy the kit is just wrong. In my opinion anyway. Russ

Yes, the F 60 is slightly narrower than the L 60. Don't have the dimensions, sorry. On real cars in the seventies it was common to use something like the F in front and the L in the rear. But on a factory stock car normally the tires would be the same size all around. Again on the real cars, L60 tires tended to be a bit too big for the fronts. You should be able to do a Google search on those cars to see what size tires they came with originally. Russ

You need to go back and buy 2 more of those, then you can build one of each. Then you don't have to stress over deciding. Russ -
Non-California Lacquer Thinner
russosborne replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is an attempt at humor. PROP 66 - Living in the state of California has been known to cause brain damage. Especially to those who run things. Get away from there as soon as possible. Russ -

I don't know if they still exist, but they used to have booths at the entrance to the state to make sure you didn't carry fruit in or out. Pretty soon there will be guards there checking for things like thinner and paint. Couldn't pay me enough to move there. Russ -
Oh. Something else I used to love to do but I am too fat to even sit in a go-kart anymore. Russ

That 40/32 double kit is one of my top two holy grails. The other would be the Ala Kart. I was so disappointed to find out that the upcoming Mod Rod release will not have the complete set of parts for the Ala Kart. I was planning on buying several, but now I won't buy any. Oh, well. Such is my life. Russ

My only connection to the Titanic. I was out at sea on the submarine I served on and had a really eerie feeling. About ten seconds later the C.O. came on the 1MC to announce that we were passing directly under the last known position of the Titanic. This was a few years before the wreckage was found by Ballard. Well, I was really excited reading about this kit until pack rat linked to the article from John Greczula The important part to me is this quote from that article "This argument is the reason why the Mod Rod reissue will not contain ALL the parts to build the original Ala Kart kit." As a result I won't be buying this kit after all. At least I found out in time. Thanks, Russ

What do you drive?
russosborne replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
2010 Subaru Forester. Family car. 1972 Ford Ranchero GT 351C 2bbl C4 auto. My car, but it needs some work. I drive it about once a month right now. I was driving it every day when I had a job. 1989 Ford Mustang LX Hatchback 2.3L auto(as soon as I get the new exhaust on and get it emissions/registered). Got this for my wife since the Subaru is a manual trans and she isn't able to do the clutch anymore. 1972 Ford Pinto project. Ok, not driving it yet. It is stripped but currently on hold. Plans call for another 351 C and pro street style. Russ
