  1. Very interesting. Question though. I may not be understanding exactly how decanting works, but I didn't think you could get all of the paint out even doing that? I thought it was just a way to "convert" from the can to an airbrush? Thanks, Russ
  2. Hope I don't sound too dumb, but what is a "door card"? I have been working with model and real cars for almost 50 years and this is the first I have ever heard that phrase. Thanks, Russ
  3. I guess I will play since I have this kit. How about an "after it's been crushed" version? Or how about a demolition derby car after the event? Sorry, but to me this is one ugly car. I bought it way back for parts that I never got around to using. Was probably the engine, certainly was not the body. Just my opinion. Russ
  4. I hope they sell well, but I personally have zero interest in newer car kits, especially the crappy Camaro. I hate the looks, and even though I am a Mustang person the newer Mustangs are right behind in their hideousness. The only recent new car I like the looks of is the Challenger. I hope Round2 sells enough to finance a thorough inventory of their existing molds. Russ
  5. For the price it had better be good. I am wondering if it is compatible with most modeling paints? Russ
  6. I've got the same booth. Haven't used it a lot, and only with acrylic paints. I do remember some reviews on it that state it isn't that powerful, which may be what you are seeing. I'm not currently airbrushing, so I am just painting outside. Not ideal, but I don't have a good place to put the booth and don't want to deal with airbrushes at this time anyway. I won't use anything but acrylics with that booth. Some do, but it isn't recommended by the manufacturer so I don't do it. Being more into the booth has to help. And changing the filter should too if it is getting clogged. If you close your door it may not allow you to get enough air for the booth to flow efficiently. But if built like most places around here there is enough air flow anyway. Worth trying for sure. Russ
  7. The HL I usually go to did put them on clearance, as mentioned in the thread I started in the General section about HL clearance in Glendale, AZ. I only bought one at that time. Went back this past week, all gone. Should have bought more than one but I wanted some other kits as well and this was a duplicate of what I already have. Oh, well. I might have to go HL'ing at some point (if I can get some more cash to spend) to see if there are any left anywhere else in the metro Phoenix area. My goal is/was to build one of each box top versions, and have a couple of others to build however. Russ
  8. I didn't realize that the Lindberg kit was the old AMT kit. Cool. I have a couple, but would buy more either in the Lindberg box or the old style AMT box if they reissue them again. There is just something about this particular kit to me that screams COOL! Russ
  9. Picked up the Revell '56 Chevy H-1373. Yes, the one with opening everything. Instructions have 1973 on them. I saw it a few months back at a place that sells toys/collectibles and train stuff mostly, but some older models as well. Went there today looking for this kit, and they still had it. Price of a new kit, $29.99. Seeing as these are way OOP I only cringed a little bit. Spent the last of my birthday money on it. No more models for a while. I built this and the 57 way back when, don't remember having any real issues with the opening stuff. This has pretty much moved up to be the next on the to be built list. Most likely just out of the box build, otherwise I tend to not get them done. Russ
  10. Depending on the type of paint, yes it can be. If you can smell it you are breathing it in and wearing it on your skin (can be an issue if you are sensitive to some chemicals like I am). You might need to check the filter on your spray booth and also verify that the fan is blowing out properly. Or you may need to spray a little bit, take a break, repeat. If you could post the specs of your booth here someone can most likely tell you if it is adequate for your situation. hth, Russ
  11. Harry, I never said or implied that my disposable income has ANYTHING to do with pricing. It DOES have a huge amount to do with the price at which I stop buying kits ( or any other luxury items). Geesh. Russ
  12. Here's a point I think some are missing. Back when we were buying kits with allowance money, we were not also having to use that money for car payments, utilities, food, housing, etc. In other words normally all of our money back then was disposable. Now it isn't . In my world at least that makes a huge difference. Are prices going to continue to go up? Certainly. Almost everything we buy is costing more and more. And the reasons given for the rising cost of kits are valid, not saying they aren't or trying to bury my head in the sand wishing for the good ol' days. Are a lot of us going to be priced out of buying new kits? Probably. It isn't a matter of being cheap. It is a matter of having enough money to pay for the necessities before paying for luxuries. And yes, model kits fall into that last for a lot of us. $30 dollars will pay for the normal night out for me and my wife. I generally prefer to do that instead of just spending on something she can't also enjoy. But that is my choice. I only bought models this time because I had gotten some birthday cash and my wife insisted I spend it on me instead of us for a change. Although one of the kits is something I would never have bought for myself, but she happened to say it was cute when she saw it a month or so ago so I am building it for her. And I wouldn't even have bought that kit if it wasn't on clearance already. I almost never buy without the HL coupon or being on clearance. Miss out on a lot, I do. Since I was apparently the unwitting instigator of this thread I felt I needed to say something. Although in my post where I talked about the price I was just reporting, not commenting. Just my opinion. Russ
  13. Gee, I am above average. Only in this case being below it would be preferred at least to me. Seems that anymore I am the other way around normally. Russ
  14. Since the forum won't let me edit the above, the HL also had these. Beetle Bus, Volare, Bonneville convertible and the Hurst Olds. Russ
  15. I stopped at the one on 75th Ave and Bell again today. All of the clearance models have been moved to the real clearance area. Several new kits. No Pinto . They have the 57 Ford wagon Gasser, 69 Barracuda, 60 MPC Corvette (red with blower engine on box), 50 Ford custom, and several others. A space is marked for the '30 Model A, assuming from the location it is the Revell kit. I bought one of the 57 Ford wagon Gassers with the 40% off coupon, and a couple from the clearance section. Went back looking for something and almost bought the MPC 60 Vette, it is one of my favorite models, but decided I had spent enough of my birthday money on models for now. All the new kits seem to be priced at $29.99. Still a few older ones on the shelves for less, but definitely getting up there. Russ
  16. Speaking of local only type places, if you are around the Akron, Ohio area you have to try Swenson's. I liked them, my wife loves them. Good food and pretty cheap. One of those places that you park and the servers come to your car. And they have fried mushrooms-my personal favorite there. They are open year round. Russ
  17. Bill, Dealers, at least around here, offer a free shuttle service, they will take you home after dropping off the car and they come get you when it is done. Maybe check on that with your dealer? Russ
  18. Carl, are you wanting to stay with a 32 inch tv? I see that size constantly for sale at stores for well under $200 depending on brand and options. Heck, I am using one for the monitor on this laptop, since I can't see the smaller screen very well anymore. Russ
  19. Yes, it really is YOUR choice. Some will do everything, some will do only what is easily seen, some are somewhere in the middle, and the rest won't bother with bolts at all. If you are one of those that not having the underside detailed will always bother you, then do it. You are (hopefully) building this to make YOU happy, so you have to decide where to stop. And I have to go here. How are the "fish" doing? Sorry, with your screen name I couldn't resist. Bad 60's reference if you are too young to get it. Russ
  20. Great work! That Silhouette Portrait scrap book cutter looks really interesting. My wife is a crafter so buying it would be good for both of us. Have you used yours enough yet to get an idea of how long the cutter blade lasts cutting the plastic? And I am believing that the .020 is the thickest you can use with this? Been reading up on it at Amazon, sounds like really good reviews for the most part. Thanks, Russ
  21. Hey, the only thing that really matters is if you are enjoying it. If so don't worry about it. Russ
  22. I've never heard of those candies either. Guess I've lived a sheltered live. Let's see. Ohio, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia. Oh well. Russ
  23. Skyline chili is (or at least was as of two years ago) available frozen at stores in Ohio at least. Don't live there anymore so not sure if that is still the case. When we first moved back to Ohio we tried them, not bad but honestly I didn't think they were anything special. Never had spaghetti topped with chili before that. But I am not really into chili. To me Hormel's is good. Hmm, according to their website it looks like the locations I went to around Mansfield and further north are no longer open. Although you can order from them online if you like the canned version. Russ
  24. For me, I don't see the point in buying kits not to build. Now, there are some I have that I may never have enough confidence in my skills to build, but that is different. Just my thoughts for myself. I have no problems if others want to collect kits. Just to me they are meant to be built. Russ
  25. I stopped by the Glendale store on Bell Rd today. They have NOT restocked as yet. Lots of empty spaces. Still had some clearance. A few of the Model T C cabs and a Fruit Wagon or two. One of the psychedelic Thunderbirds. Don Garlit's FE dragster. At least one of the Piranha spy cars. the '77(?) GMC(?) wrecker. The Corvair. One of the General Lee Chargers that was over in the regular clearance aisle. Maybe a few more, but sold out of a lot of the ones they used to have. Including the Lindberg 34 Pickup (grrr)(for $10 I was going to grab one more). Russ
