Any idea how to "tint" windows
russosborne replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
So with the dye you DO coat both sides of the "glass"? Not sure that is something I would want to do. Tinting is normally done on a real car just on the inside portion. Now, this would be a good idea for making say colored glass for a race car (thinking of the ones like the Bad News 55 Chevy). Thanks, Russ -

How do you apply the RIT? I am thinking you would only want to tint the inside of the glass? Thanks, Russ -
Whataburger. Double meat with cheese, no pickles. My all time favorite. Russ

Which Model Gave You a Whoopin'?
russosborne replied to 10thumbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is embarrassing, but lately I would have to say every kit I start. The problem is really me though. I get to a point where I just am not enjoying working on it anymore because of some minor glitch so back into the box it goes. As a kid I built all of the Revell Chevys, the SWC car, Ivo's car, etc. I honestly don't remember if I got everything to work, but I know the doors, hoods, and trunks opened. Now, they may not have been well aligned, but I wasn't worried about or really even knew about that stuff then. Everything also was out of the box except for glue. I didn't paint anything until I was in my teens if I remember right. And I played with them when they were finished. Usually before the glue really dried. Ended up with lots of parts that I would melt together using a woodburning tool. And then I played with those until they broke apart. Rinse and repeat. I also got more excited when we would be out driving and passed a junk yard much more than a car dealership. Yes, I am weird. Russ -
Round2 July 2016 Announcements
russosborne replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Man, there are a lot of kits I really want on that list. But the prices are creeping pretty high for me. Without a job I might be able to get one, would most likely be the Flying Wedge dragster. Otherwise I will be hoping that Hobby Lobby gets the others sooner or later. Being poor sucks. Russ -

Honda 750 Vinyl Tubing
russosborne replied to unclescott58's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
OK, a bit late here. But I was wondering if you put just a tiny bit of Vaseline on the tube end if that would help it to slide on easier? Don't know, just a thought. Russ -

Harry, Have you had any issues using the Future if you then also use it to clear the body? I'm wondering if the later application will cause the earlier one to loosen up? Thanks, Russ -
Protect clear coat from dust

Would using a Tupperware type container with the lid on it be a bad thing to do? That was my first thought when I saw the question here, but I am not sure if having the part in a sealed container is a good idea with fresh paint. Russ -
Now that pulley/winch system is really cool. I've thought about doing something with pulleys, but was thinking of just having it come down from the ceiling. Hadn't thought of the winch part at all. Problem is I don't have a place for anything at the moment, would have to move somewhere with a garage first. Thanks for sharing! Russ

Two more iconic cars we need kitted
russosborne replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep, three versions of the BTTF car. One for each movie. Just saw all three at a hobby store I went to today looking for the Pinto model (no luck there). Probably take intense work to make any of them into a stock Delorean. The third movie version has train wheels even. But now you guys have me thinking of something like a Pro Street version. Russ -
In Glendale (could be Peoria?) AZ, 75th Ave and Bell. Several kits on clearance. Off the top of my head-The Lindberg 34 Ford Pickup, Mustang GT Funny Car (more of a gasser style), Don Garlits' FE Dragster, Piranha Spy car (the flat box with added stuff version), the Corvette Gasser(maybe 1962?), the 71(?) Thunderbird with the psychedelic colors, the DogCatcher kit, the 1/32nd 40 Ford convertible, several other cars. Couple of ship kits and a lot of the airplanes as well. I bought one of the 34 pickups (I have about 4 now I think) and one of the Mustang gasser cars. Shouldn't have bought any, but couldn't resist. Wanted more but money wasn't there. Russ

Jay Lenos Hemi Under Glass rollover
russosborne replied to Ridge Rider's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, this was one of several that Bob had built and then sold. Apparently there is some discussions going on as to who is going to pay to repair/rebuild this one. Russ -
Been there done that. It sucks. If you can, try to keep a few things that are really special to you. A favorite album, a present from someone special, something that when you bought it you smiled for days. Those sorts of things. It isn't much, but trust me it is better than losing everything. Hope you have better days soon. Russ

And then there is this from the top of the On the Workbench forum. "Rules for On The Workbench For those viewing others who are presenting their works in progress in this section of the forum, please keep your criticisms, sarcasms, and other comments to yourself, unless the builder/poster has specifically asked for such replies." It is telling us NOT to make any negative comments on a build unless the OP has specifically said it is okay. At least that is how I read it. And in my interpretation that includes no suggestions on how to do something better. So I guess for the most part it has to be "gee, great model" type posts or nothing. Russ -
I got let go tonight from the job I have had for just 3 weeks. And the first two were training for an assembly job that they didn't have me do. After one week and two days of actually doing this job I was told I was too slow. I was still learning the !@#$%^& job, hadn't even gotten close to working on speed. And I hadn't heard any feedback before the "you're too slow, got to let you go" tonight. Sigh. Was just getting used to having an income again. If I had a gun I would ventilate my brain. Russ

Bob and my dad have been friends forever. I'll have to ask my dad what Bob has said about this later today when I go over to see him. Russ
