  1. Thanks. I remember those days from the 90's. There were some stores here in Phoenix, maybe the Pick and Save, or something similar. I had thought that Big Lots didn't seem the same as I remembered, thanks for the update on what they are now. Now the question is how to get an Ollie's to move here. Russ
  2. I have it sitting on my shelf in the "not until I am good enough" section. I built one when it was first released back in 70 or so when I was around 11. What do you need to know? Russ
  3. Thanks, I thought that was the case. Russ
  4. Is anyone familiar with this place? Saw an ad for them on CL and was wondering if it would be worth the trip. The ad mentioned model kits. Papa Dan's Trains & More (Tatum & Cactus) Thanks, Russ
  5. Thanks! Will have to pass on it for now, after last weekend I can't spend any more on models for a bit. But it is something I will definitely be looking into later on. My wife would like it, her dad built model trains, both static and electric. Russ
  6. No Ollie's out here. We do have lots of Big Lots though. Anyone know if they get lots of models? I never see them mentioned as having any. No Ollie's out here makes the move back to the Phoenix area even worse when everyone is talking about them like the current thread going on. Thanks, Russ
  7. Oh, and as far as a site where criticism isn't allowed, look at our own On the Workbench. "Rules for On The Workbench For those viewing others who are presenting their works in progress in this section of the forum, please keep your criticisms, sarcasms, and other comments to yourself, unless the builder/poster has specifically asked for such replies." Guess it isn't only the youth who don't like criticism. Russ
  8. Any idea on what scale this is? It's interesting for sure. I wouldn't mind building it. But being an old f@#t I don't know that site it is on that you are talking about. Russ
  9. Well, if you guys lease it, you could ask the owner to fix it. Just saying. I wouldn't use that anyway, but it seems to matter to some. Russ
  10. Well, this probably won't be of much help. I last built the AMT version 35ish years ago. I liked it. For me it was a fun build. I can't comment on things like accuracy, not an issue for me and I am not a Chevy expert, much less the Impala. Fun kit, looked good when done. That's what I am about. I was looking at the AutoWorld site and saw this kit, it's on my list to get again at some point. Never built the Revell version. Zero interest in low riders. Russ
  11. I picked up 5 kits today at the DSC here in Phoenix. These first 3 are all ones I already have, but I really like these and to me they are fun to build. Stinger rear engine dragster. I have a set of decals to make it into the Trick T. Might have to get another set or two now. Or maybe build one of each version. CopOut funny car-turns out I forgot I already have a couple, would have gotten something else. But this is ok. 66 Malibu SS the one with the one piece tilt front end. Since I have a couple of these now, maybe I will do one as a full on tubbed Pro Streeter. MPC 1/20 McLaren - until I saw it today I forgot how much I wanted another one of these, built one when it was first released like 45 or so years ago. And a holy grail, the AMT Double 29 Ford/Ala Kart - I still can't believe I got this one. another vendor had one for $150, which I thought was a reasonable price but way out of my league. Now to get up the nerve to build it. I think I will build a few of the others first though. Spent about $110 counting lunch. I shouldn't have spent any having just lost my job this week, but I had really been looking forward to going and buying something. Thanks, Russ
  12. I'm looking forward to the 57 gasser kit. I bought a kit to steal some parts from to make the 57 wagon I have I not a gasser, but haven't gotten around to it yet. This will be easier.i like easier. Russ
  13. Thanks, Dan. I just lost my job today, probably won't make it Saturday. Russ
  14. If we register at the door can we still attend the bbq? Not sure if I will, but thinking about it. Honestly I'd be registering just so I could go to the bbq. My in progress build would be a sealed box at the moment. Nothing close to built. I had one kit I wanted to do a quickie build just to have an entry, but it didn't happen. Too much real life happening. Thanks, Russ
  15. There was a thread a month or so ago about it starting up again. Or maybe a bit before that. Russ
  16. Is there a charge to get in the door if you are just buying? I finally got a job so I can afford to spend a little money. Very little, but still better than nothing. Thanks, Russ
  17. After over a year of basically being unemployed except for a couple of very short term jobs not in my field, I got hired today as an electronic tech, which is what I am. Yay, me Russ
  18. I don't and won't use/have a photo bucket or similar account. Every other forum I am on allows you (and most insist on) you posting pictures directly to the forum site from your computer so that if something happens to your photo account the pictures are not lost. I understand that isn't going to happen here, so no pictures from me unless it is something that someone else has asked me to post like a recent thread on a spray booth. Russ
  19. That's what I thought, but this person says he's been banned twice and is still here, under a third user name. Edit- I just saw in another thread where the offender has been banned, again. and of course I just saw above my own post here the "report post" Link. If I had seen it before I would just have done that. Sorry all. Sometimes I am blind to the obvious. Thanks, Russ
  20. Okay, I found that on page 19. But....... Is the answer to the Wedge coming yes, no or still maybe? Does anyone have a definite answer? Thanks, Russ
  21. I probably have around 75 kits. Not sure how many are started, at least a dozen. And a couple are ship models, two different scale versions of the carrier my grandfather served on in WWII, and one or two airplanes that were just too cheap to pass up. Nothing really finished. I have had much larger stashes in the past, but have had to sell a good portion to live on when things got bad a couple of times. I honestly don't remember what happened to all of my childhood ones. I think most ended up under the woodburner for customizations. And Cox Glo Fuel made for excellent flame burnouts. And then flaming models. Russ
  22. Most forums I am on, (ones that aren't selling something like a magazine), have a way to financially contribute. Like $20 for a year of being a contributing member, ad free, stuff like that. Is that anything that has been thought of here? I know, this being a modeler site there is a tendency towards being frugal ( I decided to change my first choice) by participants, but for those like me where the magazine is a bit too much money (sorry, it just is. I'm old fashioned. when a subscription was for 12 magazines in a year) it would be another way to help out. Even a way to just donate $10 or whatever. If it is here already I have missed it. Just a thought, for whatever it is worth. Russ
  23. I'm confused. Ok, I'm more confused than normal. Is the Flying Wedge rear engine dragster still being released this year or not? This is one of two kits that I would have skipped lunch to get the money to buy, the other being the Mod Rod with the complete Ala Kart. Already disappointed about the Mod Rod (just glad thanks to this group that I found out in time), is this going to be a fully disappointing year for me? Thanks, Russ
  24. Most forums I am on this would not be allowed, but in a (now locked) thread down in the General section someone's admitted he's done it a couple of times. Just curious. Thanks, Russ
