  1. Just a suggestion, that DM800 will look much better with some resin wheels on it. Those kit wheels look tiny on that heavy duty truck. AITM has plenty of options on Mack wheels.
  2. In the real world the DM800 would be overkill for that kind of work. This was a heavy duty truck made for rough and tough work. The DM600 would lend itself better to a fleet truck with its fiberglass tilt hood and shorter BBC. You can certainly do whatever you want because its your model, but in reality it would have been put up to harder jobs. The lowboy or dump trailer kits would be a good pairing for the 800.
  3. Man, that looks amazing. I love that red!
  4. Great build! The paint looks spot-on.
  5. Thank you Alain, but thats a different truck than what Im building. The Australian R800 and the American RD800 are very different. The DM800 was inconvenient to make right hand drive because of the offset cab, so these were built. They were using left hand drive DM800s in Australia prior to these being built. If you notice the 1:1 photos in the first post you will see the difference.
  6. I dont mind at all, the big rust flakes are salt glued to the truck and then painted over. I may have over done it, but its ok.
  7. Thanks guys, this one is still my favorite. It has some flaws that need to be addressed, but I still love it. For anyone that didnt see the build thread, chassis, rear axles and spoke wheels are from Autocar Dump kit, scratchbuilt/resin cast cab and tires, winch is AITM. Scratchbuilt items are; front bumper, front axle, rear suspension, headache rack, winch cradle, winch controls, rear bumper, and lowboy ramps. Running gear is Cummins 250 with 5+4 and Rockwell rear ends. Exhaust is made from solid alum bent and polished. Decals are homemade, and Brockway logos are resin cast.
  8. Thank guys, and good eye Brian! I think these types of builds are the most fun. Just start throwing some parts together and see what happens. It will take on its own persona!
  9. Thanks to all that commented. Its nice to add another one to the shelf.
  10. It will definitely be a Dumper.
  11. Update for today, I built a new set of front fenders. I pulled a new grill and fenders out of the junkbox and started cutting. I cut the fenders off about .125 behind the headlights, and rebuilt fenders covered in diamond plate. I also added the extended fender that is present only on this Australian model. Im satisfied with the progress. Im pretty sure this is the biggest truck that Ive built, mainly because of the wheels.
  12. I thank you for your time Alain. Thanks Charles! Thanks Gator!
  13. I used the DM cab. I sawed off the firewall and made a new one from sheet styrene. Its really not that hard. If you look under the driver door, youll see evidence of the DM cab. Thanks Dennis, I coulnt agree more. I love rebuilding a built up, especially mine. Thanks Jacobus!
  14. Thanks Ben! Thanks Gino! Alain, I wasnt completely sure on this. I cant really find any info on this truck. If you have any info it would greatly help. I tried to move the axle, but the parts werent budging. At this point, it would destroy the frame if I were able to remove the springs. Im happy with re-building my old DM, rather than having a completely aquirate R800. I will build moe of these, as I really dont like the offset cab so I will make my mistakes on this one. Thanks Dan. Ive been itching to do this. Its an awesome truck!
  15. I never got around to posting this underglass due to not being finished with the trailers and load. I took some outside shots of it today, so Ill post them. Ill add the rest once its finished.
  16. This truck was a total junkyard build. I started with a junk DM800 chassis, Added walking beams, paystar front bumper, resin tanks, one of my resin cabs, astro rear wheels, modified AMT Alcoa fronts, Mack mirrors, and a heavily modified AMT dump trailer tub with suspension from AMT tanker.
  17. I finally put the finishing touches on a few trucks today and took advantage of some good sunlight. Here is the finished Old green. Its an AMT Diamond Reo with a junkbox dump body and some decals made by a friend of mine with my Grandfathers name on them. The grill is scratch built, and the oil tank is a modified Astro fuel tank.
  18. Hey guys. Heres a project that I first showed in my "in progress" thread. The inspiration is a Mack R800 model that was built for Australia. Its basically a DM800 with a centered cab because of the right hand drive. It would have been ridiculous to be sitting in the middle of the truck. Zero side visibilty! Anywho, leter in the RD800 was built in America but has a taller hood, lower flatter fenders, and square headlights. To me, the Aussie truck is the coolest one. So Im building a "what if". Im building an American version of the Australian Mack, or a R800rsx with left hand drive. I just really have never been a fan of the offset cab, but I like the long squared front of the DM800. Heres some of the 1:1 The base for this build was a DM800 I built as a kid. This is how it looked in 2009 when I pulled it out to start a rebuild. I dont have any pics of the 2nd build, but it was grey and blue with a headache rack, but basically the same truck that was white and yellow. This is the start of the 3rd rebuild After beefing up the frame and stretching it about 1-1/4, filing and sanding the tires, added some round tanks from an AMT R model, re-inforced the front axle, and throwing some primer on the whole thing heres where I am. wheels are AITM, dump body is Italeri. I notice that I will need to move the fuel tanks back!
  19. Great build. This came out excellent. I have seen photos of the real truck, and youve done a great job. I think a lot of other builders will be using your bead technique from now on.
  20. Cool rig and nice build. I love the color combo. Fine job.
  21. Congrats! I finally just got my first one recently. I didnt get a deal like that though.
  22. These were built by Don Hientz(I think I spelled that right). They were refered to as "Big Stick" wreckers. There is a towing website that you can search for photos of the real trucks. http://tow411.yuku.com
