Ok, time to get this dude finished. It was put aside to finish some work for a show last year. Now it's almost show time again, and I want to enter this. I don't really have a whole lot of work left except to just put all of the sub assemblies together. I finished up the dump box with some minor mods. The cab guard sides are scratch built and raised a little higher than box stock. The sides of the bed are taller also. A mistake in the kit is that the diamond plate on the front fenders should wrap over the sides. I started by filing down sections to wrap it with thin styrene diamond plate sheet. I also filed down the stirrups in the front bumper as they are way too thick. On the 1:1 the stirrups are just bent round bar. -

Excellent work Chuck. I too am curious about your rust technique. Was it hairspray? -
gator, Im basing this on several multi engine equipped vehicles from the 60s. The two motors will essentially be connected at the fly wheels with a chain inside of a transfer case going to a single Allison trans. The trans will be centered between the two, and then a drive shaft goes straight back. I believe Mickey Thompson built one of the vehicles Im using as reference.

I get my supplies from Walthers.com. Just look for scratchbuilding supplies. They have tons of stuff besides just styrene. There are other vendors, but thats who I use. -
The KW build stalled out due to builders block, but I had a breakthrough with the wheels. I didn't want to use stock truck wheels for this, so after some digging I found some 1/16 car tires and rims that I liked. The tires are from the MPC 1/16 Cobra, and the rims are resin off ebay. The tires are the proper diameter of a 1/25 truck, and the width is about the same as the doubles. I'm using a set of 5 hole Alcoas on the front, but the holes will be turned into slots to match the rears. The resin wheel will have the lugs and hubs removed and replaced with truck hubs. I also started getting some more of the body built, and started build the Daytona style wing.

Don't let the finished work fool you, there's a lot of filing and sanding involved. At times when I have to make multiple parts the same shape, I cut them out bigger, glue them all together with just a tiny drop of super glue to keep them together, then file and sand them all to size, then slice them back apart with my exactly knife. That's how I made the rear spring hangers, and multiple other parts on this build.

I've been slowly working on the rear suspension. There is still much to be done, but I can at least mock it up now. I started roughing out the shackles for the lower leaf springs. I will add a few more layers of thin styrene and putty to get them completed. After that, I will start on the upper leafs.

Tower is out of stock already. Does anyone have any info on how big of a run this was? Hopefully they dont discontinue them for awhile. Its so nice to actually get these at a reasonable price.

It was this kit for sure because the guy posted pics of the Italeri box. I would post a link, but it's on another forum and I don't know if that is frowned upon. I was trying to find more info on this kit and it led me to that site. I appreciate the info on the behind the cab storage rack. I guess that stuff has to be mounted there because of wheelbase restrictions? I watched a video of one with a lowboy picking up a track hoe, and then drove backwards across the whole town, steering with the lowboy. That was wild. Is that normal over there? -

That was a resin cab that was offered by Spaulding(I think) many years ago. I wish I had scooped up one of those cabs. I first saw this truck posted on the plastic cowboy back in the early 2000s. Im pretty sure its on a Paystar chassis. -

I appreciate that JT. When the time comes, I'll let you know. I've been looking, and I might just get the Italeri R730 Griffin, make it a tandem, and call it a day. -

I understand all of that. I would just be happy with the same axle and cab configuration. It wouldn't necessarily matter if all of the details were the same. -
