Autocar DC9964B Dumper

Thanks Kevin. I may just post that brochure to this thread. What I did isn't exactly accurate, as I found the brochure after I did the work. Oh, well Thanks Gator. For me it's a close tie with the Mack. Thanks Ken. The exhaust is going to be tricky, but I don't want to sacrifice the look of the bed. I'm using a little artistic license on that. Thanks Dennis. The gold lettering will be the icing on the cake. Hopefully it all works out. Thank you Ray. Yeah Gator, I'm going to tackle the stripes. I bought some 1/32 pin-striping from HobbyMasters. As long as I meditate for a few hours first, and hold my mouth right, it should go pretty well.I bought a few different colors, so I can do it on some future builds. That's something I love about the old trucks, and cars, that really set them off. -

I added a roof AC and Farr air cleaner to both cabs. I got a coat of paint on the cabs also. I've been adding bolt detail to several items. -

I remember this one from the other forum. I hope the damage wasn't too bad. -
Thanks guys. It was just one of those afternoon "what if?" projects. After looking at the work involved with the resin cabs(no panel lines, no rivets, etc) at a cost of $100+ I figured it was worth a shot. It's a shame that wrecker body will have to be stripped due to the decals being applied on the bare plastic. All of the glue joints are visible and have yellowed. It looks good from a distance, but it won't cut it. I might build another one of these cabs for a tractor.

That is the plan. I realized that the cab guard would present a problem, but I'll figure something out. I could always stick it out of the hood right? Nah, I'll make it look right somehow. I have a few ideas, I just haven't gotten there yet. -

Tonight I got some primer on the Autocar. In the morning I will sand it out and if all is well, I will throw some color on it. I glued in the diamond plate pieces on the fenders. I also added ladders to both sides of the body. -
This is done for the time being, so I figured I'd add it here.I wanted to scratch build a Pete 362 cab using 359 doors and the front of a GMC Astro. After a few hours of work, I'm very satisfied with the results. I couldn't find any resources on the 1:1 to get dimensions from, so I winged it. I acquired a built up Can-Do wrecker body and. I wanted to put it on a cabover. Since a 352 would be a little old for a modern rotator, I decided on a 362. After loosing a few resin 362 cabs on ebay(too high price, for too much work), I decided to try to build one. It will eventually be a 362E with the cab step running full length. It's mocked up on a stretched 359 chassis for the photos. It will get its own chassis eventually with tri-drive, no tag axle.

I also started adding the nuts to the U bolts on the suspension. I cut apart the walking beams on the other truck, so I can make them functional. This will force me to make the driveshafts telescope, and the U joints semi functional. -

I gave the cab a light sanding throughout. I highlighted the mould seams in pencil that need to be sanded off. This small section above the windshield And these seams on the cab corners After sanding it has a nice satin patina I puttied the groove at the lower cab front. This is only for the set back axle Autocars -

Thanks guys. Today's update is a 2nd truck. I started this one awhile back also. I want them to have matching paint jobs, so I'm doing them together. The 2nd truck is an Autocar DC10464-OH. It's a pit fendered forward axle model. It's built on a junk Raod Boss chassis. I spent the day building a new dump body for it. Using scraps from the junk box, I fashioned a lighter duty box from the other truck. The cab guard is scratch built. On the other truck I removed the flat section from the front of the fenders. The main reason am I doing this is to add the mounting bracket and bolt detail. A plus to this is separating the paint colors. I then attatched the flat fender sections to the front bumper. I added tabs under the fender front to locate these pieces on final assembly. Styrene added for brackets. -

Thanks Sean I will give that a try. This diamond plate that I am using is super thin and wraps curves very easy. I've used it to do the same thing to Mack DM fenders. Thanks Brian Thanks Gator. These kits are like gold to me. They are the most prized of all the ones I have. This is the first one I've built box stock(with upgrades), so I want to do it right!
