Barracuda....Back from the dead
jbwelda replied to SfanGoch's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
IMO the USA became a wasteland of automotive design in the 70s and has never recovered. all the interesting designs are from Europe and Asia, whether anyone likes that or not. its been strictly a game of catch up but don't really try too hard to catch up on the part of America, very very few, and generally unsuccessful ones at that, vehicles have been exceptions. I cannot think of any right offhand, certainly none of those "nostalgia" designs, some of which might have been a bit better had they dared to put something approaching a performance engine in them. jb -

how to make black interiors nice
jbwelda replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
another good idea is to invest in a bottle of pledge/future/whatever and paint everything the matt color of your choice and then after that is dry pick out some of it with the Future to make it glossy, items like the console shown above. much easier than doing it with actual paint plus it comes right off with ammonia if it goes out of bounds or you don't like the look, and it will not harm the paint under it like solvent paints will. I used to use fuzzy fur for carpeting etc but now embossing powder is my thing, great stuff and much more in scale look than the shag carpet that fur used to look like (unless it was tamped down) the other thing is to run some Detailer over parts of the panels and let it settle into nooks and crannys before wiping the majority off the top surfaces jb -
still gonna come down a scale inch or three front and rear, and the rear track needs to be brought in by a few mm's, but its looking pretty decent. almost time for a coat of primer on the body. photo updates: thanks again! jb

I like those shock towers. now this might be a bit stupid but I think maybe you have the top of the shocks in the upper lightning holes, Tim, and perhaps they are supposed to be up in the top of the tower. could that be possible? I like the angle they are at but I was wondering what is that upper part for if not the top shock mount? headlamp mount? looks great though! jb

I hate to mention this and don't want it to blow up here...but the spacing on the exhaust headers does look awfully long in the center on the built motor, though they look pretty ok to me as to the spacing of the pairs of pipes. That makes me agree with someone somewhere that maybe the real cause of the situation is the length of the heads and probably the block that they mount to. looks great otherwise especially those six deuces on the log manifolds, and the pipes look kool too with those curved tips. jb

Want to see EXCESSIVE?
jbwelda replied to jbwelda's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
>Did I miss the jest of what you wrote ? no I wasn't jesting, I was serious. oh you mean "gist", the gist of what I wrote. just a typo. no probably you did not miss the gist of what I wrote since you seemed to answer it. though I am kind of unclear on your response...do you mean the seller of THIS AUCTION the thread is about contacted you to buy the item? if you just mean in general though, yeah that's pretty bad form to contact an outbid bidder and offer to sell to them for more than they bid. whats even worse, and I have had it done to me, is to have them offer to sell it to you for your high bid, ignoring the fact that the only reason the bid got that high in the first place was because the person who "won" the item but somehow did not go through with the transaction (aka "shill") was the one who bid it up to my high bid. if the guy was disqualified then all his bids should disappear and the only bid to be met in that case is the next bidder if any. >I see the same items sold for high dollars . not sure what that has to do with it. >I was then "given the opportunity to buy the item at a Higher price than I bid or was willing to pay" . yes I would complain about that, and it will probably result in a nastygram to the person doing it. >I decline and see the same item re-listed . well that's legit, the item didn't sell so he is relisting it. >This is the jest of what I am complaining about . so you were joking then? nope not just a typo. >I did ask if it were possible to know of the Item I am considering to bid on was listed , not sold , and relisted at a later time I don't really think that matters, its perfectly legitimate to relist an item that did not sell the other times around jb -

you complained to ebay...about what? I am not sure the "issue" you mean... and I don't really see an anomaly sort of auction result like this "raising the bar" on selling price...maybe buy it now asking prices, but once people see this kit doesn't really fetch these kind of prices except in some extreme bidding war, the prices will come back to reasonable. jb -
1/10 scratch built Holden HX Overlander Panel Van
jbwelda replied to prestonlal's topic in WIP: Model Cars
wow you should be congratulated on persistence alone! plus that is shaping up (npi) to be quite a truck! doing those long flat subtly curved and slanted surfaces is a hard task especially if you want everything symmetrical. I admire you for sticking with it and it looks like its going to pay off soon. jb -
the Sesto is 30.15 US$ at the moment, on preorder due in December http://www.hlj.com/product/AOS01073/Aut plus 12$ for the aoshima detail set http://www.hlj.com/product/AOS01075/Aut plus shipping of course but that is pretty reasonable usually. jb

its time to buy! jb -
nice to see this being done before our very eyes! thanks Tim! the only thing I do not like so far is that you have to paint that half the outside half of the interior panel same as the rest of the body. that's not a problem with solid colors but more glamour finishes it might be a problem. can that portion be trimmed off and glued to the body before painting, or will cutting it apart disturb the interior engraving on the other side? you could tape it to the body for the paint stage I suppose. does the channeled version work the same way? jb

>I can easily prove this by referring you all to multiple sites selling header flanges for nailheads that proves something? wow. not in my book it don't. I can't count the number of times I have been sold parts that are said to fit, only for them not to fit. especially in this day of one size must fit all thinking (aka walmart, home depot, autozone, etc) jb

sadly (no, that's a lie...gladly) I did not attend jb

FAS7A = FASTA! jb -
it just occurred to me the possible similarities of this new kit to this seemingly similar release from not too long ago: anyone (Tim?) know what the parts swapping possibilities are between the two kits or have any other comments on similarities or differences? I have a number of these kits and always thought they were great sources for parts if nothing else, but now I am thinking about using one of the truck cabs on the spare chassis from the roadster. or would that just be redundant? jb

tom, yes on further reflection I have to agree with you now on the "proxy bid" thing. seems to me, in the past, proxy bid was a reserved word in ebay land, and meant a specific thing. but I went there the other day and went through their help files and could not find mention of the term so I guess it lapsed from the lexicon. but I see what you mean about the concept and agree it mirrors the real auction world in that it in essence allows you to make bids while not actually being in attendance. thanks for the info jb -
Dear God: please do not let Bill E see this model, its liable to send him into fits...the port spacing is just not correct and no one EVER used a Porsche dashboard in a hot rod. its fit for the trash can. nonetheless... and thank you for your comments all who have commented so far jb
