  1. yeah I make you laugh, and I get models built. as in finished built. seems like a rare commodity around here. jb
  2. its the only sort of car that makes sense in todays world, I would guess electric powered. ed roth saw the future back in 1965 jb
  3. used to be there were post numbers one could cite...but now, page 256 for my earlier try at lyrics. that leaves the two lines at the top of my last post. very simple one, no takers? jb
  4. personally...I sit down at my work bench and work on something. that's how I get things done. one thing I DON'T do is spend an inordinate amount of time staring at a computer screen. jb
  5. hey Don, those two Lotus cars John had at the club meeting the other day, they were from Profil24 I believe. nice stuff, stiff prices. jb
  6. two is four and square is round (more lyrics from unguessed lyric I posted above) when you were a child you were treated kind but never brought up right you were always spoiled with a thousand toys but still you cried all night your mother who is protecting you owes a million dollars tax and your father's still perfecting ways of making sealing wax. jb
  7. I would respectfully request you get your shipping cost down to about 1.50, that seems about right for something that can probably fit in a #10 envelope and ship for the cost of a first class stamp. I could see how I could use some of these but that shipping cost is killing me. jb
  8. totally ironic that little four puts out more than that big bad (well, how about bitty bunk) V8! man those sure were the days (to be into non USA cars). jb
  9. hey Adam, what a great review and what an eye for picking losers! just those graphics and the drop out horse are enough to make me gag! so did you actually build this pile? thanks again! jb
  10. a lot of Blondies material was, if not straight covers, at least highly inspired by others songs. one good example is the song Rapture...the rap lyrics were stolen pretty much directly from the originator of the American rap style, Jamaican immigrant DJ Kool Herc, who they befriended and then more or less ripped off. the second wave/two tone ska movement of the eighties would not have happened without Prince Buster. not only was Madness named after one of his songs, but the (English) Beat and particularly the Specials AKA relied heavily on his songs, in spirit as well as actually covering them. never a hit but the rolling stones "Too Rude" was a cover of reggae artist Half Pint's song Winsome. he was credited and paid well by the stones, something that often does not happen. no comparison actually, the original smokes the cover: keef actually does a better version with xpensive winos, the man has consistently shown a deep love for reggae music: jb
  11. lets see, where were we? oh yeah cat for sale: couple of built broncos: kool stuff in the yard close up of the bug: a red stripe: when all else fails, pull the "Jetta in a ditch" card: caddy in a field: Dear Lord, I hope they don't breed! nice No-va, someone told me this car has a 396 in it. oh my! what DO we have here? problem appears to be the "landing gear" are high centered on the rise up to the levee! to make it even more interesting, another truck pulled up. now he cannot proceed, and he cannot really back up...the nearest driveway is at least a mile down the narrow levee road. they might be there for a while. jb
  12. looks like an old Roller up on the rack there too, don. well its been pretty quiet on the road yesterday and today, but did make up for it a bit today. just to keep the excitement down, we will start with a Chrysler crossfire. kind of like this design: why is it when I see a car like this, I think "bank robbers"? Ducati and Triumph: souped up Neon I believe, more on these later well what do we have here? truck driving down the road at 60 with rear door swinging open. tried signaling him a few times in different ways but he was oblivious. finally pulled over on the freeway after one of his good buddies 10-4ed him. duh. getting kind of bored are you? old farm truck: wonder what deficiency this dude is making up for? this cat had been tailgating me for about 4 miles before the road widened. time for a break. jb
  13. I always thought this photo ranked up with the best of my model shots. simple background and layout makes the model pop out at the viewer. except that the dang rear moon disk is not centered. its always something. enjoy seeing all these photos in this thread. jb
  14. thanks for that history, I figured the "Sil" part referenced a Silvia, but i never put it together that the "eighty" part was for "80". the car basically looks like what was sold here (USA) as a 180SX or maybe even the early 240SX but I didn't know the actual origin of the name and I had not noticed that the front end looked 240ish. I do remember talking to this guy one day in a warehouse district who was putting a 240SX front end on his 180SX so this must have been exactly what he was doing. jb
  15. I think you might be looking for the "what did you get today" thread, Tony. meanwhile, I had to go into town (real town, not the village I live by) today, something I grow to dislike more almost every day, but always good for car spotting. first, downtown my town, I always look at these series Benz, like the squatness of them: don't worry, it gets better... though maybe not immediately, next up, a Checker with a for sale sign in the window: and a disco vette that someone stopped caring about along about the time most did the same with disco music: heres a 40ish Ford pickup truck I always see, and the guy is always hanging out in it. he has the hood in the back so it looks funny. kool truck heres some gassy smelling el camino: a shop I pass occasionally, they always have something out front: target parking lot sorry for the glare off the dashboard: more to come jb big fat Porsche: Baja bug: another clean truck: BOOMBOOMDONK!!!BOOMBOOM pick of the day: jb
  16. just picked up these three kits off ebay and thought some people here might like to see what to expect if they order them too. one thing, be sure to shop around because some sellers want unwarranted (you will see) dollars for them...I think I paid 12 US$ each and shipping for the three was probably 10, so total less than 50$ for the lot. All three are Aoshima in what it take it to be the "Initial D" series (hard to tell because its all in Japanese), all three 1/32 scale: Mazda FC3S RX7, Mazda FD3S RX7 and the Nissan Sileighty (aka 180SX in the USA I believe). one thing that was not totally apparent to me was the simplicity of these kits. and by simplicity, I mean literally no interior, at all, and no real chassis except something to hang four wheels off and support some batteries and a small Mabuchi style electric motor. because these kits are motorized, though you do not get the motor itself you get gears and some grease and as I alluded to, a chassis that cannot even be called a chassis plate. but that has its plus side too...no temptation to overdetail! I did not even bother to photograph it because they are so elemental, and all three kits includes the same parts for chassis and running gear. the motorization is not slot car style, though there are numerous hints here that the cars are indeed aimed at the 1/32 "true scale" crowd, of which I happen to be one. as such they are well received, as the part that really counts, the body, are all uniformly well shaped with minimal or no parting lines (from a rough glance, watch the pics make a liar out of me), and they indeed feature the body mods that are shown on the covers of the boxes, something that American manufacturers (sic) should think about more seriously. as mentioned, there is no interior at all but the glass is tinted a heavy dark shade and spraying a further coat of black inside the glass cage should render the lack of interior moot. the bonus is that each kit includes the wheels pictured on the box top including a very kool minilite style. the tires are smooth blobs but again that kind of harkens to the slot car intention, seeing as they feel like they are slot car silicone based, so its an upgrade in traction on some tracks. there is also a nice decal sheet for each car, all three different, that includes really nice looking rear light lenses and running lights, probably won't use many of the light lense decals but the taillights look too great to pass up and complicated scheme at that. the bottom line is basically, if you are after some nice slot car bodies, or even slammer style shelf models, these are just the ticket and available cheap. but if you are looking for internal detail (or even an exhaust pipe for that matter...good opportunity to get rid of old paintbrushes) these will probably disappoint. I would also mention that there is at least one more in this series, the only series of 1/32 I think I have seen, and I think it is another variation on the earlier RX7. heres a look at whats inside: Nissan Sileighty (appears to be 180SX in the states), Early Mazda RX7 (FC3S) and the later Mazda RX7 (FD3S) bodies: sileighty: FD RX7: FC RX7: wheels: sileighty: FC: and FD: all match what is shown on the box art and all cars look like they will look great when done. I am going to do all three at once this year sometime, and slam stance them down and maybe some brushing up on the airbrush experimentation! sorry for the poor pics, I am still learning a new camera jb
  17. where were the police on their atvs? jb
  18. transporter convoy, I believe that big blocky one is a Dohrmobile conversion: what can I say? I like em that shoebox again, he was cruising up and down sigh, another disco vette. man they sold a lot of those things ready for the Rubicon: more to come jb kinda boring tuner: kinda boring Porsche: kinda boring disco vette: now I kinda wonder if the Rubicon rally is this weekend: yippee! jb
  19. am I having a problem with photos? sure seems like it from my end, hope they are showing up. Ford U Ar support your local 81 car of the day as I would say: with a couple others of note: jb
  20. busy day as it turned out, lots of people passing through back from hot august nights in reno. I would imagine. started the day off with fairlane with hood bulge station wagons? did someone say station wagons? no dude I don't want to fight, just want a pic of your disco vette shoebox some people think these are approaching classis status. jb
  21. not really much happening today, but a couple jewels amongst the coal: funny, seem to be at the end of my allocation of storage space. already. huh. oh this is gonna get nasty. anyway common ordinary tuner with purple wheels and maybe that's a body kit or just a crease by crash: common ordinary late model mopar, either isn't from around here or just washed it an hour ago. mustang v2 if I am not mistaken, pretty clean find of the day: Alfa spider I would guess, out by the model airplane airport. some kind of darth vader mobile: something old and theres something else old hidden in the background and finally a couple of pimp mobiles. then the battery died. guess I got to charge this thing every evening. jb
  22. got a cheap shockproof point and shoot so watch for installments. today: common old mustang looks pretty original, lowered truck, Austin healy, some kool tuner (Nissan 300Z?), another healy and more inside, el camino and chevelle, some kind of HEY LOOK AT ME paint job is this a corvette?, Honda tuner with red wheels, Porsche cayman (isn't it?), 2CV alongside and in rear view mirror, COE truck with barrels (now that I look at the pic its not COE at all), couple of some merc in a field, wants 200$ running, disco vette in town, VW transporter I think it busted, FordUAre probably waiting for the tow hook, clapped out connie downtown, couple of a kid's Golf who was excited that I was pointing a camera at it, benzes lined up, late model waterpumper heading down the road. that was about an hours worth. manana.
  23. ok danno once again the discrediting of the source and not the facts. the ocean is predicted to rise TEN FEET in the next 50 years, that from legitimate, established, scientific study organizations. oceans have not risen 10 INCHES in centuries. its just coincidence they are doing so now. or is that all liberal media agenda too? do you ever read? I mean besides the comic pages and the police newsletter or fifties hot rod magazines? some people will not be convinced of this until the water is lapping at the porch of their house. your stance is one of the best examples of the frog not realizing the water is coming to a boil that I have ever encountered. I wonder what branch of science you are trained in to make such blanket assertions that it is all the figment of an overactive imagination to fill their financial coffers. here is an article by that well known wacked out agenda driven publication, National Geographic. it is a very very conservative article. there are many more much more alarmist articles out there written by well known radical agenda people aka scientists. and while the PROOF absolute that it is caused by man and his machines is not really there, all signs point to that as a cause, in fact, THE cause. http://ocean.nationalgeographic.com/ocean/critical-issues-sea-level-rise/ harry: "proof" is something that often comes too late in the game to do anything about it. that is what is happening now. and "proving" something is the fault of the most capital intensive industries in the world is something they fight tooth and nail to prevent. > i am challenging you to disclose how you know what everyone else knows or does not know. time to spill the beans, professor. you are now speaking of a genre of music to which I have pretty much devoted 40 years to learning about, promoting and writing about. I have posted basic reggae lyrics here from time to time with zero recognition of them by most if not all who respond. that makes me think very few here have a clue about such artists as max romeo, and the reason I was surprised when someone quotes him here, especially an American. someone from the uk I would believe it much more since reggae has been a part of their culture since the mass immigration of west Indians in the mid 20th century, but reggae never really made much of an impression here in the states outside the marley clan. happen to know any of the answers to the questions I posed? just wondering because I would assume the person who posted the quote would know his background. jb
  24. >Ok, but that's the same as "Right click - copy" a photo and "right click-paste" in the post window, which is much easier. >The problem with that is I think it adds band width to the cost of running this site. >Using the "forum Codes" provided by the photo storage places is only a link to the photo. no, what I did was link a photo here from a remote site using the url in img tags. it is NOT uploading the pic here and using "band width to the cost of running this site". it is a reference to the photo where it exists and the img tags make it show up here but its still a link not the photo itself. I am not sure what happens when you do the copy and paste here but I believe that is not actually uploading the image here either though at this point I suppose anything is possible. but what I did up there did NOT upload the photo here. as I mentioned elsewhere, I copied the url from your photo, took it to an external text editor, added img tags to it and then pasted that string here. that is the only way I can consistently get a linked photo to appear here. if you use "choose files" below, THAT uploads the image here and uses their space to store and display it. hope that helps. jb
