Next up from Moebius ?
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
oh a javelin would certainly be better than nothing, or another (cough) Hudson or that Kaiser. I think those things defined "can't get out of its own way" and they certainly are stodgy to the max in appearance. that Packard has potential though. and for theme purposes those Indy pace cars seem doable, at least if they cherry picked the more popular models to, well, model. But I think the reality is they should continue on the Chrysler path from the upcoming Fury into other models from around the same period, mid 60s, maybe a little sooner maybe a little later. a Barracuda seems like a great place to start (or continue to) and/or of course the racing version of what is a street car in its coming incarnation. I think those would sell outside of the small circle of people really interested in a Javelin and it would allow at least some reuse of their existing tools. or heck if they are going to do something like a Javelin, why not do a Studebaker Hawk of some generation, or as often mentioned, a flippin TUCKER if you want name recognition. all that American Motors stuff just never really did much of anything for me. always seemed to be trying too hard to be "in" but had some really hacked designs during that period. jb -

Javelin? That would be another pure loser from my perspective. Another car best forgotten jb -

You actually think anyone remembers starsky and hutch and would buy something based on a tie-in? I don't... jb -
Little Tee packed with ALL the parts
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just so there is no confusion...that issue at the top with the trailer...that does NOT include all the parts from the original Little T, correct? For instance if I remember right, no seats, no wheels, no turtledeck (little drag part), no fuel tank (little rod part) and probably a bunch of other stuff. jb -
Is THAT where those shilouettes of cars come from! I have a strip of those in my decal envelope and I always knew they looked familiar but could never really place where they were from. I particularly like that VW and the rail dragster. jb

gooche decal sheets....are they nice quality...
jbwelda replied to AC Norton's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Hooray I can reply now! I have bought numerous sheets from her and they have all been great. I liked one so well I asked her if she would custom make me a sheet with one design on it a number of times in different sizes and offered her 20$ if so. she said 10 including postage would be fine. I like that. product arrived and its excellent. these decals respond really well to microsol and lay down flat and contour to curves really well even without the chemicals. I would 100% recommend her, fast shipping, good product, flexible and will do some kustom work. jb -
to me a "roadster" has always been a car without an integrated windscreen and with no roll up windows. certainly qualifies under that definition. jb

I don't know what a "Bantem" is but this is a stock Bantam: jb

typos were not just limited to box art, some were even apparent in point of purchase displays: there are errors on a couple of other stands I have and while these are reproductions, I understand the originals contain the same errors. and it doesn't have to be vintage either... oh the first problem is "Interier" and the second "Comptetion". jb

>part of it it is the bs you, mike51 and erik88 pulled on there. yeah dude, I pointed out what a hypocrite you are and that's not BS. and as usual you probably started a big whine about what a victim you are. again true to form but I never went back to check what was happening. I just kind of set the timer and let it go. I don't give a damm if someone flies the stars and bars on their car, model or not. I think it shows a certain lack of sophistication but that's no reason to not do it, certainly not against the law in amerikaner land. no problem. one thing though, that chick in the bikini? heres a vote to get rid of that bathing suit. jb

Congrats, Blair Pletcher!
jbwelda replied to rsxse240's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
they send a copy of the magazine the cars appeared in to the contributors featured in that magazine? that's a nice touch. but they would have to have complete mailing info to do that, can be an issue for field reports like contest coverage. jb -
yep I agree. the unfortunate thing is that right now that symbol is a sensitive and provocative thing. any post containing or referencing it will be seen as a challenge. best to give it a rest. couple months pass, no one will much care. jb

Pat: don't throw away that bicycle, it builds up really nice: before adding cables and details. those photo etch spokes are really kool. nice build there by the way, really strange to see the bike and travel bins included with this kit, mine came from a Honda Mom-Bomb jb

compared to the 283/327 they were low output per pound. and of course the 396/427 was a quantum improvement over them. I always thought the 409 had a really great look but as far as power generation I think they were way behind their time even at the time. doesn't really matter with a model but in a real car you just didn't see that many that were truly competitive...in my experience back then anyhow. jb

Rough Moebius '54 Hudson bodies
jbwelda replied to ZTony8's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
at one time, some wise scribe scribbled: >Do you even have one? No, I don't. thanks for asking. I don't generally build grandpa models of big ugly sleds. >Do you even build models? Ah the question of the week. Yes as a matter of fact I do build models. do you ever look at this site, perhaps the workbench or under glass section? Evidently you do not. Perhaps you should. Do you even build models? And in my opinion, Peteski has it completely right. There is nothing special about the smooth finish to other models, that's the standard. This is an unnecessary deviation from the standard caused by cost cutting I would guess. It causes problems for, as Peteski indicates, foiling bare areas not to mention making paint buildup necessary where it would probably not be otherwise. and I am guessing (because I admit the unpardonable sin of not going out and buying everything released just "to support" the makers) that other parts in the kit than the body have this same finish. Does that mean I need to prime and sand every piece of the kit? Muy no bueno. I am constantly amused by the lengths some go to in their attempt to paint the world with a rosy brush while avoiding the real, obvious questions. Thanks! jb -

sorry pat, I didn't take any. should have though; there were well over a couple hundred models in attendance. model cars, that is. there were plenty of the other sort of "models" next door at the comic-con. maybe don graham did so I will pm him and see if he would like to post a few here. jb -
Congrats, Blair Pletcher!
jbwelda replied to rsxse240's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
you know Harry, that takes a bit of ego many here do not possess: to submit models for publication. Might get rejected or ignored and then never bother again. could I suggest that you or someone with the magazine peruse the "Under Glass" section and make a habit of soliciting those who post there whose models you think come up to the necessary standard, to submit their photos to you at the magazine? That would solve a lot of problems and give you folks an unending source of material for the magazine. maybe even have a "From the Website" feature every month where 2 or 3 submitted cars are spotlighted. pick the builds, send the posters an invite to submit to the magazine via PM and wait for the photos to pour in. I would bet it would cause a lot more folks to post photos there too if it were possible they would then be invited to send photos in for publication. I certainly know I would jump at the chance. as it is now though I would not just start bombarding you at the mag with photos on the off chance you might like something enough to publish it. I would like to be invited to do so instead. just a thought by the way, congrats Blair, its always a charge to see your work in a magazine. jb -
Monogram from the begining
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hemified: why would you use that name? not everyone here thinks a "Hemi" is an appropriate name. You shouldn't post here with that name, it is an insult to those of us who think hemi motors are over rated. I am sure you see my point. jb -
How do I create desert dust on a car..
jbwelda replied to Bettsu's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you lived around here, and it was grape harvest time, you could just leave it out overnight and then dullcoat it in the morning...it would be plenty dusty. jb -
martinfan those links from april don't seem to work anymore. got any updated ones esp for the detail set? I recently insulted the chevy cruze somewhere and I have to humbly take that back. this is one bad azz machine. I am guessing it has pretty much zero to do with the prototype other than general shape? jb
