  1. could it be that Nissan truck is still running fine while that Ford Probe was long ago rotted out and junked? And it wasn't even a Toyota Tacoma. jb
  2. yeah wow the open seat backs. that nearly ruins it for me. "trunks opening" would not be a criticism: it would be a wish list item. jb
  3. I bought two sets of the Rudge wheels too...never know how long they might be available and I can always use another set for a 356 or something. I think I have seen them on Jag XK120s too. I too have a long stack of builders to deal with before I go into this one, including a Porsche 914-6 from the very same HRM, so its interesting seeing how it goes for others. As per expected, it sounds like typical Tamiya smooth sailing. and I really dig that clear under pan idea. not realistic I know, but really interesting concept to show the chassis detail. its funny you don't hear the questions or criticisms of this car vs its prototype like you do with some of the domestic (USA) releases. either its dead on correct or the car is unfamiliar enough to not draw the armchair stylists, not that there is anything wrong with that. jb
  4. my dad was always a chevy man, generally station wagons. but his last few years he drove one of those big Buick Roadmaster wagons. Darn thing had a dashboard top surface you could play cards on. But the funniest thing was he didn't know what a cassette player was; he was putting spare coins into the slot on front. Then he couldn't figure how to get them back out. We were driving one day and he asked me, I about fell on the floor laughing when he explained what he was doing. had to show him a cassette tape! I remember we had a 62 chevy wagon (belair?) and it was a big deal that it had a heater and radio in it. our previous (55 or 56 I forget) wagon had neither, but we lived in the tropics where it was warm and there were no radio stations mostly. jb
  5. you guys better buy that stuff up, last time I went looking for some specific duplicolor spray, all I could find were those little mascara dispenser wand things. I thought it was just in California but even looking for out of state sources, I came up empty. so I am assuming they are all dead stock out at the outlets at this point. does anyone know where one can mail order duplicolor spray cans? jb
  6. Van: might get hold of you next week... finished up a nose piece made of several components from the Revell flathead midget, covers the front up to about the front of the engine. this time I undercoated the paint in Tamiya orange, and think it represents Dennis' paint a little better. will bring it by his place later this week to see if that is true. meanwhile I don't mind a subtle mismatch on this particular model. the grille and I think a nice smallish white pinstripe on the nose will finish it off. thanks again for looking! jb
  7. that's exactly the style I love: a high on the chassis highboy that is low to the ground. looks killer jb
  8. pat, that's excellent but I can only see one of your photos. did the link to you photo host break or something? that's a neat update with the stancing above, looks total kool. I built one a year ago I had a problem with the yellow stripe decals, did you paint yours on? I have to note how much better your secondary windscreen looks than mine. somehow my glue set before I could cock it back a bit, looks much better mimicking the line of the A pillar. jb
  9. > for those of you who dislike Revell kits full stop that is hilarious, I thought you were above such passive aggressive bullbleep. I wish you would be more explicit if you are going to bring it up. lets hear what you really think Tim. jb
  10. >I spoke to Dave Burket Is that how his name is really spelled? I ask because you keep dropping his name but you always seem to misspell (?) it. thanks jb
  11. >create a thread in the "Wanted" section on this board to get a new copy of that decal sheet. right. my experience with just that was my thread got deleted with neither permission nor provocation. that was after I originally posted it in the aftermarket section because I was looking for a fresh copy but it was moved to the wanted section (a stupid move) and then when I even hinted I had found one (of two I was seeking) the thread was disappeared by over zealous moderators (what?). so best of luck. maybe they just have a thing against "loose cannons". jb
  12. to the original question, what you are referring to looks like a resin body? why would it be a bantam then, given they are readily available and have been since time. perhaps you mean an Austin Seven, also sold as a BMW 3/15? this body was produced in resin (1st & 2nd picture though I trimmed the cowl significantly) and also in plastic (3rd & 4th photo, kinda modified from stock) also congrats on that 32 ford, I have been looking for one cheap for a while now ever wonder what a stock Bantam looks like? jb
  13. yes I was thinking that was an fj70 (or bj70, the diesel model) under there somewhere but heavily heavily modified. as aaron mentions, those fj80 kits aren't really gonna be much help aside from giving you a decent platform. the closest those 70s got to the USA was Canada I think, probably Mexico too, and they were amongst the koolest of the latter day land cruisers IMO. I would give some teeth to have that clean new rig you pictured there, I would find some use for all the exo-skeleton and body mods. we need an fj60 too, though, like bad. jb
  14. To me, the koolest thing there are those spark plug wire holders that are bolted onto the valve covers. those are total neat and I suppose they were Olds only...I don't recall seeing anything like that on any other GM engines. so, Bill, ya gonna drill them out when you add your spark plug wires? I believe that would be mandatory for "the look". jb
  15. So where did the photo of the test shot go? it appears to have been disappeared at the source as all quotes of it seem to be gone too. strange but funny. jb
  16. he probably means he concedes there is a blower out in the real world that seems to resemble the one on the test shot. Sort of. Not really though, for instance count the number of ribs. or does that constitute rivet counting? jb
  17. Subaru 360: there are a number of them currently on ebay, the one shown above plus several in different scales heres one I built a long time ago, sorry no individual pics just the race track corner jb
  18. yeah their catalogue is kind of hard to follow but there are photos of pretty much everything interspersed amongst all the text so that makes it a little easier. If you have in mind what you want its sometimes better to just call Norm and order from him over the phone, he will know all the part numbers or won't need them. be warned though, he does keep a lot of stock on hand but if not it might take him a bit to get around to casting whatever you might want. and youre gonna probably want a lot. jb
  19. what the heck do you mean "'A' or 'B'" and then there is a "C"? jb
  20. Are you serious, a Hemi into that turbine car? Someone up there is getting ready to send a lightning bolt your way. jb
  21. once something reaches a stage where molds have been made and a test shot done, I think it is very very rare to see corrections made that are not absolutely necessary. And by "absolutely necessary" I mean something that would prevent a kid from building the kit. I kind of doubt a room full of board members or production managers or whoever approves products is going to be getting all excited by an incorrect firewall or roof lines, much less a squared off blower or some other details, even if they are called to their attention. time will tell. if I were to put a bet right now, it would be on not seeing any of that stuff "corrected". its never as easy as one would think just looking at it from our angle. and corporate type people don't want to spend any more money on it than absolutely necessary. ps: oh and don't go and get all bugged at me. I am just telling you what I see coming; I don't particularly like it, but like that freight train, its oncoming. jb
  22. a friend loaned me his ATC 3 wheeler one day and the darn thing went STRAIGHT for the nearest tree. its darned hard to steer with the one front wheel off the ground, which that big inflation tire up there guaranteed would be. bent forks back so the tire was pressed against the engine and that was that for that day. I was lucky...most people crashed them at fairly high speed and ended up deaders. jb
  23. now that tape, that's really something! came with the Apollo kit? wild! my family always had reel to reel decks so we could have played it back too. jb
