Even ''Predicta''kit has accuracy issues

> Project 20028 now THERE is your "accuracy" for you. planning on a deal with the devil? jb -
you know Bill, I am about tired of reading your holier than thou screeds and your implied and stated insults to me and others. I doubt very much your self described "expertise" and I do not agree with the way you are analyzing this situation, but I have yet to call you an idiot which you basically just called me, and others. but don't push me buddy...or I will go all Donald tRump on you. the most noticeable thing on a MODEL engine is the distance between the header pipes. period. not the center of the ports, not the diameter of the tubing. all you really see is the distance between header pipes. so you go on with your little fantasy that you know way more than anyone else here and lets see if Revell hires you as their engineer. yeah I know, you don't want the job, you just want to stand on the sides and heckle. hopefully (for you) Revell will pull all these kits and substitute their 50 year old parts pack motor before they rerelease it. yeah that's going to happen over what amounts to fractions of a millimeter mismeasurement. I am so tired of hearing your pedantic observations and rantings...in which you insist on absolute accuracy but then make unbelievable leaps of faith to "prove" your points. jb

now got some tunneled teardrop taillight bezels, look really kool, in fact they might look even kooler as exhaust ports! but taillights they stay. still need a bit of cleanup and meanwhile the dashboard is looking better too. thanks again for looking and comments always welcome! look inside, will make clear red lenses and glue them to this side of the bezel

would you care to work out exactly how far off the NEW engine/headers are from "real" ones? that is the question. and that's what I would like to hear the answer to, not how the parts pack unobtainium motor stacks up against real. I also think you are taking some very liberal interpretations of the photos I see above. but its probably close enough. thanks jb

ok so now we have some measurements, the next problem is going to be interpreting those measurements and specifying exactly what measurements have meaning in the case at hand. personally, I think the distance between outside diameter of exhaust pipes should be the measurement of choice, because that's whats going to be easiest to measure in the scale version. looking at the photos it appears to me distance from 1 to 2: 2 5/8" distance from 2 to 3: 6" distance from 3 to 4: 2 5/8" that's with me taking some liberties in interpreting those photos and the rulers placement. big problem: taking too many liberties is going to reduce the difference in scale by a lot so can't really take too many liberties here. so now someone with a 1/25 calculator could do the arithmetic and then measure those kit headers and have an answer. or debate the measurements, or take measurements from a completely different place than I did. my bet is they are going to be so close as to be not a problem unless you got a micrometer handy and in that case I personally surrender. jb

yes JS, watching the defectives, though I flubbed the lyrics some. the second song, since no one will probably know it (!), would be Rockpile's So It Goes, and the connection of course is Nick Lowe, bassist and founder of the group, also produced at least the first four Elvis Costello albums and really was the genius behind the guy if you ask me. oh that one with all the Jamaican lyrics? outlaw Josie wales, leggo me hand gateman. jb

I believe there will be a model car show and/or contest this weekend at the Good Guys car show in Pleasanton CA. Usually a good turnout of models (though haven't been in a couple of years so that could have changed), but the gate admission and parking is pretty steep by my standards (I believe 20$ at the gate plus 10$ to park). the huge 1:1 car show sort of makes up for it though. if I go Sunday, and my tentative plans call for it, I will try to take some decent pics of the model show and post them here. sorry I don't have specific info like exact address etc, but a quick google of the subject will probably reveal the details jb

I like that decal sheet and those weathered seats and the rust and corrosion. very kool, whether its appropriate for any given build is another matter but I will probably use all the rust stuff on one build or another. I actually think it shows some thinking outside the box for Revell, and I can appreciate that. jb

those silver sharpies don't even come close to chrome. more like dull silver. at least the ones I have and have had. if there is something that actually blends with chrome plating I would like to know about it. jb

what I am wondering about are those sprue attachment points on the very thin chrome parts like the radius rods.. I notice that at least some of them are on the downward facing, showing side. also there are those little bits attached to them that just terminate in a bit of tubular plastic. what are those for anyway? couldn't they be eliminated? can't trees like this be designed to not have sprue attachment points in particularly sensitive areas like that, or is it a matter of having to support the part in the mold, or having to being able to inject the plastic there? whenever I see sprue marks like that on thin rods, I immediately begin planning to use straight pins or something in place of the rods. it would be nice though to get ones straight off the chrome sprue ready to use. my problem with the attachment points is not only do you have to somehow touch up the chrome after you've removed the sprue, but in actually smoothing that spot I always have trouble and end up making the rod just barely too thin there...and I can then see it in the completed piece. in other words, no matter how much work I put into something like that it never really turns out as well as the original could have. also I note that at least in the photos, the character line in the frame is terminated at the rear with a sprue attachment point. if that's really at the edge of the character line, that's gonna be pain right there. also not real happy about the high cut of the wheels wells, I wonder how that's going to look with the highboy version? I know theres a pic on the box but in real life. I have to think its going to look too high in comparison to the tire. I think they will look great on the channeled rod and that's what I would build here. I hope they don't carry over that concept to the next (coupe?) version they bring out. definitely going to buy one or more though no matter what. one of the best domestic kits I think I have seen in a while, as far as subject matter and execution goes. jb

hey shawn, I may in fact have a double on that windscreen, maybe even the glass part. pm me if you think you got a place for it. jb

What did you see on the road today?

forgot one from yesterday: a beat bron-cho in for restoration possibly: jb -
thanks for the interest Shaun, by louver poop on the dashboard, do you mean the Blaupunkt radio? If not please clarify because I don't know what you're on about there. also, the boring part, that is my specialty man! it is kind of how I feel about deuces to tell the truth, but maybe this one will be a little different from most. jb

dash looks nice. still need to smooth the cowl/dash interface but looking pretty good. filled the underside with epoxy so nothing will move once it dries. there are excellent decals in the Porsche kit for gauges and the engraving on the dash is beautiful. don't really fit the car but that usually doesn't stop me. posing with a bench seat (Revell 32 Ford Roadster) and a driver figure: jb

another benz shooting brake, I love these cars, great classic lines, understated looking and more than capable mechanically. actually I never knew MB made so many wagon styles before I moved here, but there is one around every corner here, not all new either, some quite classic not even sure what this is, but faintly looks like a rolls Royce badge on the back, probably more like a Chrysler though this one is definitely a Roller, possibly even brand smacking new. very Jaguar looking: then this brand new benz shooting brake pulled up next to it. this is one awesome car, look at those exhaust pipes! a look inside the garage reveals a lot of kool stuff: finally, an older gentleman driving a ratty but sweet vw cabriolet, he said he had it since 1972, I didn't catch what year the car is, 65 maybe? he said yeah, he gets asked if he wants to sell it all the time. jb -
Want to see EXCESSIVE?
jbwelda replied to jbwelda's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
where was there a "proxie bid"? I didn't see anything about that. the guy who ultimately won placed four bets as I outlined above. its not a "proxie bid" to do that. I am not even sure what a "proxie bid" is, but I am pretty sure that is not it. he bid, he got outbid so he bid another good chunk and he continued to do so until he ultimately prevailed. got taken for a ride, but prevailed. and that scenario you depict forgets one thing: if the price stayed around 100$, instead of jumping to 400 as noted here, others would have been bidding and raising the ante. sniping software ought to be banned. it is one of the features that has near ruined ebay, along with ridiculous buy it now prices. jb -
whats that they say about idle hands doing the devils work? next he is grafting the Porsche dashboard onto the body. don't know how well those louver strips will work, I think maybe they are johan in origin, and they are kind of soft and rubbery, but still seem to sand ok. biggest problem is the bar that runs up the strip but I think I can sand that down later in the process. I needed the clearance inside the engine compartment anyway so those scoops not only liven up the dull side of the engine cover, but they provide a relief for the hemi head to fit into. hopefully. haven't actually fit it in yet because the frame got painted with MM enamel and we all know how that is: some drying time required. thanks for looking! jb

Hit songs that are actually covers (that nobody knows are covers)
jbwelda replied to Harry P.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
um ok lets see here...first seven wait that's a number albums songs were covers you show the first two albums I believe. I showed the first seven albums. theres that number again. numbers six and seven were complete originals. no covers. and a good portion, though not a majority of the previous two albums were originals. so a more correct statement might be: Most of the first four Rolling Stones Album songs were covers please show me where my math is incorrect jb -
design wise? jb

Want to see EXCESSIVE?

sold for 440$, lets see if anything further happens like the auction gets cancelled and relisted or other red flags... meanwhile the seller has got to be fist pumping the air and the buyer wondering if in fact all the parts are there. as someone mentioned, they are not, but the seller did show exactly what was included and indicated so in his auction text so to my standards anyhow, that is fair why the heck one person, not to mention two, ever thought this kit was worth that amount of change, I will never know. as has been pointed out here and elsewhere, the kit is basically a pile of carp even if it were complete, and not being complete...well, it just boggles the mind. I was originally watching it and hoping I could grab it for 50$ or so, if only just for the box and bodies. I got disabused of that notion rather quickly, like a swift kick in the rear end. jb -
Hit songs that are actually covers (that nobody knows are covers)

>Most of the first seven Rolling Stones Album songs were covers not so. for usa releases: englands newest hitmakers 12 X 5 rolling stones now! ---> heart of stone, what a shame, off the hook, surprise surprise, 4 originals out of 12 tracks total. out of our heads ---> had a number of originals including gotta get away, big hit heart of stone, under assistant west coast promo man (credited to group alter ego Nanker Phelge) and I'm Free Decembers children ---> half original half covers...originals include as tears go by (originally given to Marianne faithful to record and have a hit with), get off my cloud, I'm Free, singer not the song, blue turns to grey, some of the material released on this album was recorded as early as 63 including a few songs previously released on the UK EP Got Live If You Want It (no relation to the USA "live" album released later with the same name). aftermath all originals between the buttons all originals pretty much the same with UK releases though in some cases very different track lists from USA releases interesting to me, Sonny Bono got lead writing credits on "She Said Yeah", a favorite of mine, and I wonder now if someone else recorded and released that prior to the stones and if so, who. jb
