so could I please point out that it has been said over and over again that ANYTHING can be posted in the under glass section, yet when things "out of context" (like pick up trucks or sedan pickups? phleeese) are posted there they are moved at the whim of the moderator of the moment? f'in lame is what I call it jb

those look great. I am not familiar with these Tamiya kits, do they have engine detail under the panels? did you do anything with that, or build it box stock? if those are removable panels they sure seem to fit nice. and I take it they are 1/20 scale? jb

that looks great and I love that gen RX7. makes me want to pull one out and do it myself. I really like your paint choice, very subtle but very striking in its simplicity, partly because of the gloss over the satin paint. looks sweet. jb

the problem with paypal guarantees is that a buyer from someone like this might be tempted to deal with him when the part is not forthcoming after being paid for, and the deal will drag on and on. by the time frustration has set in enough to make you want to pull the plug, the transaction may be so far in the past that paypal might not want to deal with it or at least it will lose some credibility as a case of non delivery in a timely manner...because the buyer played along with it for too long. just something to keep in mind. myself, I figure money is gone when it comes to this sort of delay...waiting since 2011 might as well wait the rest of your life, the mold has been cast so to speak. jb

>friend of mine put lighter fluid on a tire changer once that's how you reseat the bead on a tire out on the trail. that trick comes in very handy sometimes, believe me. jb

and I don't really understand the guys problem: it shows right on the side of the box what is included. he chose to ignore or disbelieve that. that makes it his problem. as such an expert as he claims to be, he ought to know what to expect...and of course when the kit is supposed to be 3 in 1 including STOCK...you gotta figure they are not going to include an extra tube frame for some nebulous "drag" version. especially when it shows it right there on the box. you do have to wonder though: a flip up body with a complete interior, including a full roll cage and seats. that artist must have been thinking this really doesn't make sense. jb

if there were a lot of complaints back then, you would not have heard them or of them. very limited communication in those days and if you actually took the time to write a letter they often made their way straight to the circular file. on the other hand if you happened to get hold of the right person, it could be very effective. but not like today where anyone interested in something can find lots of complaints or comments on it very easily. back then you would be complaining to your mother, who would be saying "yes dear" while pulling the fresh baked scratch made apple pie out of the oven and dad would be relaxing (in a white shirt and tie) and smoking his pipe. well that part might still be true today, except for the tie. jb

because all these categories and subcategories are not very well thought out nor are they enforced consistently. jb

Need help on removing front-end clip!
jbwelda replied to booboo60's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
well if i understand you properly, i think you should cut off the nose, then make some plastic liner to fit inside the sides of the nose piece that will slide past the inside of the body where the two meet. when that is fitted, tape it up and drill holes in each side, through both the body and the nose side pieces you made, and then slide pins of whatever sort (straight pins would work for positioning purposes) through the pieces from either side. jb -
>I have built both. Have you? uh no. built the Tamiya karmann ghia with major mods. in general I think anything Revell doesn't hold a candle to anything Tamiya. i have noticed via reviews that this bug is well received as was their classic mini cooper and i have their Trabant universal and am impressed there. but i still have a hard time believing the Revell beetle is actually better than the Tamiya. just out of curiousity, what is your take on what is better about it? jb

Compressor and airbrush driving me nuts!
jbwelda replied to YoungLuis's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
So this is something I have wondered about since I bought my airbrush: what is the actual air pressure in the circuit both when the airbrush is idle and when it is wide open. normally I set my regulator at 25 psi because that is what I am told is appropriate. I then point and open my airbrush and immediately the pressure drops to 12 psi or so. there are no leaks or anything other than the obvious leak in the airbrush. the question is, which reading is accurate, and further, which reading is what one should pay attention to when receiving advice on the optimum pressure to shoot paint. I had figured it was the pressure with the system closed (airbrush idle). I guess it makes more sense to use the pressure when it is being used and the circuit is open. the thing there is that means to run the pressure up around 40 or more psi at idle so it will drop to the correct range when the airbrush is opened. and it also means that when I get advice about optimum pressure I have to wonder where exactly they are measuring the pressure. by the way, original poster, I think if you soak that stuff in real lacquer thinner (might be difficult to locate in your state) for a couple of days and then clean it with a towel or something, you will see a big difference. jb -

super job on that exhaust system! jb -
that's a regular Ed Roth mobile with that Ford engine in there! jb

that's kool, really kool, and the stance in the photos looks perfect. I kind of like the tires like they are, much bigger is going to start looking like a cartoon. I would look into finding a ARB style front bumper with a winch, I think I saw something like that in the resin section within the past month or two. neat idea! jb

hey Patrick, if you don't hear back from him by Wednesday or so, PM me as I am going to call him and order myself one of these Baja bug kits. I can get one for you and then ship it to you if you like, at cost. jb

wow! what the heck are you gonna do for an encore? that is fantastic and I bet its really something in person! jb
-
I would advise you to look into a way to lower it front and back. it sits way too high out of the box. as I recall it could use at least a 1/4" drop but that's not really easy to do. will look a heck of a lot better though. jb

>Since you're building a replica, have you got any idea where to find the Heartbeat of America valve covers? that was going to be my next question! I found some that were close in my parts box and I am either going to ignore or perhaps decal the text on them. jb -
lotus elite, now there is a beautiful car: I have a "super shells" 1/32 lotus elite body kit with a minimal chassis, this is the "full detail" (hah) version and they also sold just the body for slot cars. I also have a 1/24 body with some trim that I believe they also made quite possibly in full detail version. I know the body is very nicely done with some chrome trim parts. something like this would be my true "holy grail" kit to find intact. I bought this one about 20 years ago in the first years of ebay jb

"Holy Grail" Models?
jbwelda replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
mine is actually the Uncertain T, mint in mint box, and including all the display stuff: stand, girl, trophy etc. then I would promptly build it. actually I would really like a Merit Lotus 11 kit but they go for such funny money for what it is, I can't even justify it to myself. and a Maserati Typo 60 Birdcage too while we are at it, again too dear $ wise. jb -
