those parts (turtle deck and chrome fuel tank) made it so you could build the kit as sort of a little drag or a little rod, but the other parts to make them complete would have to be sourced elsewhere. pretty neat feature. I have a store display stand like that with a restored Little T. looks super kool. I see you found my photo somewhere! jb

that has to be the koolest thing I have seen all month. great visualization; makes everyone wonder why they hadn't done that before! I was going to use the ala kart nose on something using the Orange Crate chopped 32 body, but now you gave me lots of other ideas! very beautiful kar and just perfect execution! jb

I believe its close to the Sizzler dragster, another Monogram release, in scale. larger than 1/24 scale. in fact now that I think about it, the blown hemi from the Sizzler would make a nice transplant. Very nice restore/save of that one and I like all the decals. jb

that looks great and I love what you did to the interior. fantastic work; makes me want to build the kit! jb

thinking about it, I guess the 1/24 (vs 1/25 for example the tweedy pie) does give it away. I wonder exactly how many of the original parts are in the upcoming kits? certainly not the wheels and tires. and certainly not much if any of the engine. are the old parts still on the tree but just not used? jb

box art is something that would get you twenty years now, easy. jb

>This was also done in 1/8th scale in black first If I remember right I think it was red. the original Big T I mean. and are you sure this kit (the one with the trailer) traces its lineage back to the Little T? I somehow thought it did not. jb

How to run a model company
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
you know, there is always SOMETHING of value in a kit of any subject that might be close to someones heart for one reason or another. maybe its the sectioned body. maybe is the oh-so-toylike accessories. maybe its something's simple usefulness as a bad example. so yes there is some merit to the Hawk kits I remember. I mean even those rubber band powered "salt lake" cars reissued some years ago had some potential, though to me their shapes were hopelessly wrong for anything more than ramming into the wall under their own power or planting firecrackers in. Lindberg was also somewhat in this bag though they did have some exceptions to that rule. one was their box art which made the subject actually look exciting (like the one illustrated above) or even silly (like the dude in the full ebola suit driving the "29" T on some kind of circle dirt track looking setup). jb -
Corvette Grand Sport induction setup

RMM = Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland. excellent resin caster, highly recommended. call Norm and order a catalogue and you will be placing an 100$ order the night of its arrival almost guaranteed! but you might be able to pick up one of those AM/Revell kits for a low price if you look around. the originals had some flaws that were later corrected so they sometimes go real cheap. jb -

Had to share a modeler from England

that's beautiful! the yellow one reminds me of photos from the UK of drag racing in the late 60s, racing on airport runways probably with leather helmets on. jb -

>VGC Resins has it for Chevy. thanks. happen to have a link or a contact for them? a quick google of it didn't bring up a site. thanks again, already have a lead but don't mind checking out another, jb -

heres something: since he is allegedly such a litigious guy, maybe people ought to stop with the unproven character assassination before they get slapped with a libel and slander suit by some anxious lawyer. this sort of slander is not typically allowed in threads on this board, no matter what the rep of the subject. he has ripped no one off yet (possible exception: designer of kool T shirt above) and just because he has his head in the clouds doesn't necessarily mean he is anything more than a dreamer whose dreams have turned out before and may again. and dude, 50$ doesn't buy loyalty, at least not from me. ever buy a lottery ticket? same principle here. no loyalty, just a chance to gamble on getting something I would like to have, and don't like seeing someone crucified in public for scant real reason. if you look at the list of contributors so far on the web site, you will notice some familiar names, so I am not completely alone in this willingness to plunk down a few buck in return for a possible payoff. jb -
the funny thing is...there is just as much detail in a 1/24 (or whatever) scale motorcycle as there is in a (same scale) automobile. so where is the logic for claiming "THERE HAS TO BE MORE DETAIL AND SIZE THAN THESE TOYS."? granted, 1/8 scale is bigger (duh) and so more easily detailed, but I think the miniature aspect of the smaller scale is kool. jb

i am willing to put further money on the possibility that he lives up to his words. sometimes you just got to take a chance to get something you want. i am one willing to take the chance particularly when it involves roughly 1/4 what the kit brings on ebay with regularity. time will tell jb -
Help on Restoring Old Models
jbwelda replied to JPolli's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
you are very right about that part about it being currently available or not...if it is do yourself a favor and just start with a fresh kit. the freezer trick works especially well if you dunk the car into some water right before you out it in the freezer. that way the water expands as it freezes and forces parts apart. jb -
cracks me up when people make statements like that about the music industry. maybe a little research beyond the faux headlines would help. fees have always been charged by music publishing houses for live performance. most clubs pay a flat fee but any band performing in a public place is required to file a set list with ASCAP or BMI and pay royalties on cover songs. it goes for the rolling stones, it goes for toots and the maytals, and it goes for Podunk cover bands in backwoods bars. high profile establishments especially have to be sure this gets done. this is nothing new, what is new is club owners are more frequently neglecting to do what is required and they are now being sued by the music publishing houses. that's the short version. there are numerous modern motorcycle kits in 1/24 scale available, pretty much all from overseas. I have an airfix Honda 500 modern road racer bike in front of me. paid about 10$ on ebay. there are lots more where that came from too, of many modern and pre-modern era bikes. unless you are making a distinction between 1/24 and 1/25, and I dont think you should be seeing as how the difference is pretty minuscule, perhaps a bit more research on this subject would be in order as well. jb

>There's nothing more "entertaining" than hearing the judges make snide remarks about a model based on >SOLELY on the SUBJECT MATTER of the entry without regard to craftsmanship or skill of the builder. if I were ever to hear anything like this I would be greatly tempted to loudly and publicly question that "judges" credentials to be judging anything at all. and I would make sure the sponsor of the contest heard about it. there is no excuse for that sort of behavior or that sort of prejudgment coming from a supposedly impartial judge. depending on how aggro I felt that day, and how he responded to my challenge to his impartiality, the dude might leave with a bloody nose too. and I might end up in the graybar motel. wouldn't be the first time though never over something so petty. jb

Tamiya Masking Tape
jbwelda replied to 1/24DragAndStreetCars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
my local hobby shop had some 10 years ago or so. they hadn't sold for what they wanted for them so one day he just gave them to me when I made a pretty major purchase. they look and feel similar to the model master brushes but really really do hold a point well, and the bigger one of the two would sop up paint and lay it down smooth. I couldn't believe it, it was so good. both have lasted up to today with almost daily use. kind of amazing. by way of comparison, my typical model master brush lasts about a year or so until its frayed and shedding. I do not know if the Tamiya brushes are still available; that was the only time I have ever really noticed them. jb -
alternate sources of modelling supplies
jbwelda replied to rsxse240's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
in keeping with one of the original suggestions, what I like to do is bang my head against a brick wall until it starts bleeding and then when I go to the hospital, when the nurse isn't looking, I steal some suture string. makes great spark plug wires. of course, the medical bill is pretty high, but at least I got over on them on the suture. and maybe a hemostat or two. jb -
Tamiya Masking Tape
jbwelda replied to 1/24DragAndStreetCars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
pretty much everything Tamiya is perfect (paint stand notwithstanding). ever use their paint brushes? last forever and hold a tip well. expensive though. but with Tamiya you get what you pay for. American cars? please. no. jb -
that guy who posted the bit about never allowed in sanctioned racing has posted that sort of thing before and when challenged, never bothered to back up his chat. seemed kind of strange at the time and seems even stranger now. note he is not a rookie here. I wonder what the deal is as he is obviously full of incorrect information. no slur intended, its just obvious. you know, driving that vair with the V8 just sitting there behind the driver just aint gonna be happening. for one thing its quickly going to be over 120F in there, not to mention the noise factor. all vairs I have seen with V8 conversions have them in a box back there and still it is hot and noisy. jb
