>The '68 annual kit box was marked "for 1968", meaning that AMT (not doing a promotional model for '68) did not have >information on the 1:1 '68 when they produced the kit. I don't get it...what is that supposed to mean,. "for 1968". I see it there on the box and it seems associated with "AMT" as in "AMT For 1968" but I still do not get the connection to not having information on the 1:1. how would that language explain it? plus that box art illustration makes it look like it has Camaro rear fenders, from the roof rear pillar back. those wheels even look like rally sport wheels, at least as blurred out on the rear. jb

but its a vicious cycle: no one shows up because there is no class, but there is no class because no one shows up. personally I think the people who run the contest/show should LEAD the way and offer the class. if no one shows up, then save the award for next time or something. but the very fact that there IS interest in "tuners" in real life as well as models tells you there IS a demand, you just have to figure out how to tap that demand. if you put out flyers maybe mention the class or even highlight the class. get those people out of the woodwork. in fact you might even inspire some old timers to either bring their built tuners they have built (I think many do cross genres, I know I do) or even inspire them to look into building one, seeing how their old school techniques transfer to them. in other words, foresee the future and PROMOTE the class, at least for a couple years and by then you would imagine it would be self sustaining, and maybe draw a few people into the show/contest who might not otherwise attend or participate. I wouldn't even bother entering a tuner in a street rod or something similar class. the very name reveals the prejudices that will be inherent to the judging and the judges probably won't even look twice at a tuner in the class...to them the class is defined by old time amerikan iron and anything else is pretty much relegated to the status of a joke. jb

>The Rear Suspension Design was ';BANNED BY EVERY SANCTIONED COMPETITION ORGANIZATION WORLDWIDE DUE TO >INSTABILITY WHEN DIVERTING FROM A STRAIGHT AHEAD DIRECTION .,. PERIOD . This came to pass in 1953 really? in 1953? and then when the Corvair came out it was banned already? and so there were no stock suspended corvairs racing, anywhere, in any "SANCTIONED" (by whom?) event? b.s. jb

I have long wanted to build one of these, probably lowered in the weeds with an SCCA look to it. I always thought the body design was very handsome and with it low with the nose a bit lower, they really look slick. jb

that one somehow didn't resemble my mom's much. jb

looks great, Tamiya Mica Blue? jb

I was wondering why that yellow was on the tail in the early photo. really great concept and very great painting! jb

I think I would just switch to Tamiya spray can primer and probably clear too. just a suggestion it might be easier than messing with all the variables you got going. shame to ruin the body of such a beautiful project. jb

Bwahahahaha...love those wheels and especially the track. Citation...my mom had one and even by her low automotive standards she thought it sucked. like hard. at least the model doesn't have to run, just look good. that's gonna be a challenge too. have fun jb

>instead of dropping out of the custom car scene, dropping off the planet & then showing up decades later i chalk it up to the sixties; lots of people did that. cars, and particularly custom cars, were way off the radar for a whole lot of people who were formerly enchanted by them during that period. there were much more interesting and exciting things going on back then if you are old enough to remember. personally i thought i would never want an American car after that time of my life...and that turned out to be fairly correct but i did regain some interest in straight line racing and other greaser activities in later years. jb -

well, we will see. i will attempt to keep the place apprised of any progress. note though he offers a money back guarantee if you want to pull out at any time. that might be the penultimate test: see if he actually refunds money when asked. personally i know i am "investing" my money in a possibly shaky situation, but like i said, its worth the small donation to have a ticket on the ride. its not really gonna bother me either way. you do have an interesting point on who is ripping off who but just as "legit" resin companies reissue out of production kits and parts, it would seem he would have the same privilege to do his own car, without regard to it actually having been his own car. jb -
How to run a model company

except that most of that Hawk and to a lesser degree Lindberg stuff is basically, well, junk. jb -

>If the kit comes out as it is now being talked about, $25 might cover the shipping cost, not the kit cost evidently you did not read the web page. the price of the kit is 25$ if you preorder it now, and it increases over the 500 copies he says he is going to be making. then the actual postage will be billed via paypal invoice if and when something is produced and shipped. i don't believe there is an option to increase the price for a kit that is preordered. I know the guy, ive corresponded with him a number of times and though I know he has a bug up his butt over some licensing something or other, he seems fairly on the level to me. he lives in Hawaii and I know what that can do to you, good and bad. I know this plan sounds pretty extraordinary but I am willing to put down a few bucks to help it along and hopefully see a couple of kits. I will build one and sell the other, which will be autographed by Steve Scott himself (whoop-de-doo but there you have it), for 200$. or it never will happen and at least i know i donated the small amount to a fairly worthwhile cause, because i have always liked that car, got two buildups of it and want to build one myself. and those guys in aussie land are pirates in a way, but the tradition of the resin world has always seemed to be if it was out of production it was fair game. evidently he doesn't see it that way. that's his prerogative in my book. ps: if i followed them correctly, i believe he sold a number of NOS Uncertain T kits on ebay for pretty astronomical prices. so he has got some money, and there would definitely seem to be a market out there for this kits return. jb -

actually the entire kit is available in resin, including (but actually purchased separately) the stand, trophy and girl. regularly sold on ebay out of Australia and the casting is not the greatest especially on the small delicate pieces like the trophy figurines. guess what, for 25$ each even on speculation, I am in, for 2 of them. evidently judging from the email I just got back from them I am order number 40 so someone is buying them, that would seem to be since yesterday. even if it does flake out this promises to be an interesting gamble. certainly better than some dog catcher thingamabob. but a dog catcher thingamabob in the hand is worth at least a couple of these in the bushes. jb -

Createx Wicked Colors Paint Questions

thanks Skip, I will look into that DVD. >non-pigmented acrylic base yes this is beginning to sound familiar. I would think that adding this to your pigmented paint would keep the same viscosity but lighten the color, not thin the viscosity of the material itself. sounds like my problem was definitely the smoothness of the plastic because everything else I was doing sounds like it was within tolerances. I did have a problem earlier that night with mixing the WC paint with lacquer thinner and clogging my airbrush badly. it could be I was still having problems later after I cleaned my AB, probably because I had not cleaned it well enough. when I did take it all apart I found a bunch of the congealed gunk in some nooks and crannies, so maybe that was contributing to the problem. now that I know this I might try again tonite or tomorrow to shoot some onto a primed surface. or maybe some spoons or something. thanks again! jb jb -
what do you mean by "seat insert"? jb

I think you can expect that a turbo charger on a 4 to bring it up to normally aspirated V6 power is going to negatively affect the longevity of the motor. that is pretty much how it always plays out especially considering most who buy a "turbo" are going to be lead footing it a lot. the V6 strains way less and probably puts out more HP on a consistent basis than does the turbo 4. and with a better spread of power range. my guess would be that the 4 really strains up to about 3k rpm and then the turbo kicks in to pretty instantly bring you to red line. the V6 is probably smooth power all the way from idle to redline. looks like a nice car harry, "arrest me" red and all. I had no idea ford was even offering a four cylinder in a car like this. I assumed they were all V8s or at least V6s. jb

oh I am out of here. have fun with your toys, boys. jb

look at the bottom of your box. mine had a false bottom and the iron on was under there, bent up on the sides to fit the box. maybe you just haven't dug far enough because I believe all kits come with it. jb
-
you do realize, Dave, that your post exemplifies exactly what you are saying in your post. the cardboard cutout one was very kool. very well done. that doesn't mean the world is (re)ready for a kit. that's the word from the "haters". I hate that word. that makes me a hater hater. jb

Createx Wicked Colors Paint Questions
jbwelda replied to Jc cline's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
hey thanks joseph, that makes sense and what you said about reducer delaying the drying time is just what I experienced. and I was shooting onto bare plastic (though I tested it first on something I use for paint tests so it had effectively been "primed" and had good results). so what you say matches exactly my experience. I will continue to use the reducer but will be sure to prime the surfaces I want to paint (I usually do but in this instance I did not). so what is "fairly high pressure"? I was at about 22 psi I think. many thanks again jb
