  1. kool kits, the Wild Dream/King T both build up very nicely and fit together surprisingly well. I am going to be using the XR6 chassis and probably some running gear for a very special Trabant Universal surf wagon very soon now...with half a hemi engine to boot. jb
  2. heard from him last night: >Hi: the cooling fins PE set as well as the regular PE set are both out of stock >I re-etched them several times, if I meet enough interest I’ll re-stock seems to me that a previous post had it wrong. unless he just went out of stock a second ago. jb
  3. >What does the "boiling point" have to do with this question? excellent question. I was wondering the same thing. jb
  4. what irked me today? I will tell you what irked me today: I haven't been able to get any decent clear (Tamiya ts13) and my local hobby shop hasn't gotten it back in since it became available again. why? because they basically don't care, they claim its "discontinued" and have no plans to reorder it even if it came available (it is currently I believe) but that's for another irksome thread. so instead I bought some Testors wet look lacquer clear and figured that would work ok over Tamiya orange and decals and door lines inked in and one thin coat of TS13 I managed to coax from my very last can. so I get in my spray booth and have at it. I am planning on going easy and laying down a couple of mist coats first before going for the real wet look. well guess what? Gxx Dxxx nozzle, brand new mind you, malfunctions on the second pass and dumps big drops of clear right out onto the paint job and almost immediately it starts crazing what it is on. DXXX DXXX DXXX. totally ruined. my fault really for trusting it as this is what pretty much happens everytime with that junk. how in the heck does this worthless Testors outfit stay in business? straight into the garbage and now not only do I have to strip the body (MIGHT be able to get away with just sanding but I kind of think its going to be more trouble than its worth), which isn't going to be easy due to the multiple brands/types of paint on it, but I also have to find some TS13. Tamiya clear never does this to me. at this point I am thinking its going to be way easier to just dump this body and buy a new kit and start all over again. unfortunately I used the only set of decals I wanted on this body. everything else is done and ready, just need the body. so then it will be 30$ down the drain and a box full of useless parts minus the body to sit on the shelf and no decals to do the graphics I wanted (pretty simple really: just a black racing stripe down the center of the car but it was a certain stripe I wanted and now if I want it I will have to try painting it...yet another challenge on a car that was supposed to be a quickie). hope everyone elses day is going better. jb
  5. wow beautiful paint! love those cars too! missed seeing your stuff so hopefully you will come around more! jb
  6. isn't that XJ-S a rebox of the hasegawa kit? kinda looks like it.
  7. Roughly ten degrees less than what you subjected them to. jb
  8. happen to have his email addy available? thanks jb
  9. so then thank you brett for implicitly agreeing that no one called anyone an idiot in this thread but by the way to style yourself after Nixon and take the attempted martyr way out is pretty hilarious dude, so thanks for the laughs. and really, now Revell was doing a favor to the AFTERMARKET (isn't that what "promolite" is, or am I not enuff an insider to know that secret?) in putting the decals for an imaginary car into the kit? wow...isn't that pretty unprecedented? because I am having a hard time believing that it was anything more than a goof up. look a goof up isn't that bad, you don't typically go committing suicide (virtual or otherwise) because of one goof up. anyway...I agree with whoever said it, we build these things anyhow, how about letting someone make honest observations without getting all panty wadded that gasp the manufacturers might be reading? its market research and its free; back when I studied business that seemed to be manna from heaven. get it? usually companies have to spend good money on that sort of thing and im sure they realize that whether they let mere mortals in on it or not. ps: and the reason you don't see much from me in the building categories here lately is there really doesn't seem to be much readership there nor much interest in stuff I build, so I have been building but not posting in process stuff...and others may well feel the same way. jb
  10. I would like to have it pointed out where exactly someone called someone at Revell or anywhere else for that matter, an "idiot", in this thread. that whole thing with the olds decals is an excellent point. no way to explain that one other than "no one will ever notice". jb
  11. >I think I'd rather have good sales than good reviews any day of the week... that's what Brittney spears (late of even good sales) says too. see, people buy a lot of stuff. whether its good or not doesn't really seem to make much difference. jb
  12. I believe I read today that GM was going to spin Cadillac off into its own brand or some kind of marketing BS like that. does that mean the next step for Cadillac is off the pier? jb
  13. uh, kinda dumb question here. why are you guys using this "program" if you don't like it? cause you sure don't have to. you can enter whatever you want on the invoice you send the buyer and then go to the post office and send it to him. no one is forcing me into some third (fourth really) party scheme to do some shipping transfer. you go to the post office and send it to the buyer...in the USA or outside the USA. or do you mean the SELLER is using this and you bought something and now someone wants to charge you extra money for it? that doesn't sound right, as in doesn't sound correct. at any rate that would not go over with me unless it was completely specified in the auction, complete with the fact (sic) that extra postage would be required from me for some trans shipment business. and that would be the end of that deal for me. I sell overseas (from the usa) all the time and never never ever had anything like this going on. and I buy from overseas and never had anything like this going on either. jb
  14. >Pointing out a kits obvious flaws is a legitimate, even necessary, part of any "review" thread. you should probably work for Revell. that's what was needed at some point: a critical evaluation of what they had there, before giving the go ahead for production. and maybe it did happen, and maybe the execs said, aw what kid is gonna care about that. f it, run it! at that point any delay or rework is $ off the bottom line and if you have to fix such complicated things as the entire back fenders and trunk panels you almost might as well start over again. so the evaluation should have happened at the DRAWING stage. I cannot believe they would get something so obvious as that rear panel so wrong, and once the fender curvature was pointed out, I cannot unsee that either. and its not like there isn't a bleedin Camaro behind every other service station (note: "service station") out there in middle America and they are hard to find or something. jb
  15. it could also be that bringing it up here again with details and super secret exploded diagrams (no diagrams were harmed in the explosions) will get more people excluded from the coveted "insider" brigade. could be... jb
  16. its been done jb
  17. also, I have a question about that PE fin stack set...are the pins holding the piece to the (for lack of a better word) sprue in a place that is highly visible on the finished product? such as the rear (front is front of car) area where the fins really show? or are they more in places that won't be seen when the stack is assembled and in place? just being lazy...it would sure be nice to not have to finish off every pin location when assembling it. jb
  18. >Check out Gio at AF forums. I seem to have misplaced my secret decoder ring. could you clarify please? and I will be in for at least one of those type 1 motors...how can we get in line? I don't like relying on seeing a post here if I can avoid it. thanks again jb
  19. they will be great for printing out screwdrivers and stuff. maybe specialized parts for the station or satelites. just not in 1/24 scale! jb
  20. Tempest station wagon! jb
  21. someone I know was searching high and low for that kit. I believe it is out of production and widely sought after world wide. do you know somewhere currently selling it? if so please post the info. thanks! jb
  22. I sense a huge market for Viagra right there. jb
  23. jim do you think it would be possible for you to post updates and photos on this site (on the workbench) for those of us who do not subscribe to faceboink? also which level material is the body you are working with? any problems so far that should be brought to attention of anyone considering buying one? thanks jb
