  1. kinda like it: but I am a lot more partial to the old skool customs like the Ala Kart, Manta Ray, Wild T than much I have seen in the past decade or so. but I do have to say that Maserati is pretty fantastic too. jb
  2. if someone indeed does plan on reissuing the Chrysler turbine car, what would you figure the chances of it being the full detail version? jb
  3. to fix that frosty look have you tried spraying the inside of the glass instead of the outside? I have found the Tamiya clears do about the best you can expect but I have never really gotten a perfect result. acceptable yes, but perfect, no. always some gradation of tint or something. I have also used (airbrushed) future tinted with the clear colors to thin them out some. again, close but not perfect. about the transparency issue: you will never find a way to tint the plastic and retain its transparency, its always going to be reduced, the question is, by how much? jb
  4. next time you read one of my posts, try to remove the stick from up there. so what I mean is, even with all that knowledge, instructions, specifications, all that stuff there, you NEVER mess up a paint job? I rest my case. perhaps that rubber chicken and assorted dancers might help after all http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibIhoZf1FhA jb
  5. >I wonder why there appears to be a '59 Cadillac body and a Chrysler Turbine car body sitting by the Moiebus kits..? the return of JoHan? jb
  6. yeah I have some vintage photos of it in that trim; I had never noticed the front tires but you are correct, and they look WAY better. I always had a particular liking for the King T even though it isn't my general style. but living in sacramento since 1965 on and off, when I was young the connection to Tognotti and his speed shop was there. also right before his death he picked one of my cars as his choice at the sacramento autorama model car show, and he actually chose my car two years in a row, different cars! jb
  7. >Puzzling in that Galaxie already has two kits of the same ilk maybe I am missing something here; if so please point out my error, but isn't this the way things go: you invest in a mold and then find fairly small simple variations you can issue to interest people who perhaps were not interested in the prior versions? edit: I see now. never mind. but just because they license one product doesn't necessarily mean it will be easier to license another. jb
  8. does that Piranha have anything to do with the Piranha race car that I think AMT put out at one time? and that 32 Victoria, not from the old double kit with the Willys by any chance? anyone know the lineage of the kit? another question and I think I may have seen an answer here before, but are the 69 Corvair street car and the funny car essentially the same body? other parts in common? maybe they should have broke some new ground by putting both in the same kit along with a race team trailer...I guess a Vair pulling a trailer just wouldn't be too realistic though. don't see much else there I am interested in, aside from the Vair and maybe the 53 ford truck. good to see an active release schedule though. jb
  9. 1/32 scale road racing style, yes many times jb
  10. >There's no magic with paint. beg to differ. Voodoo might be a more appropriate phrase. jb
  11. > Here are just a few: don't give away our secrets Harry. jb
  12. >some of the best kits ever done of contemporary street rods ever. Historic. agreed. I even thought that back when I was a kid and had these kits. could never really get them done right but always admired them and the real cars. that willys/32 ford kit was much more my real modeling skills level. and wasn't it amazing how contemporary they were to the real cars. I think they (the models at least by MPC if not AMT) were available early enough to be displayed with the real cars at shows back then. jb
  13. the 34s were pretty good and I am trying to get my hands on one to build, but those Ts were atrocious. in fact that might be a good name: Atrocious T. Sounds like a rapper though. might be some good parts in there...again just like a rapper, but most is kind of early sixties aint got a clue laughable. check the stance of the "rod". as others have pointed out though, great box art and that one of the two Ts on the road with the Amish or something with their buggy in the background. priceless Americana even if completely fictional. at least they accurately portray what I seem to remember in the box. jb
  14. all except the Cadillac valve covers (and the name) from what I understand. jb
  15. that black widow is the perennial kool kar kit. simple but effective. good to see it back to join the green hornet, blue beetle/bandito and hopefully its other fellows eventually. jb
  16. yep and it is parked in the budding del paso country club area of suburban sacramento, way way back when. I almost recognize that house you can see there. kool photo! jb
  17. whoa panties in a wad time! Tamiya tape should not do that...Sum Ting Wong. personally I leave things masked for at least an hour after spraying...I think you removed the tape too quick and it pulled the semi dry paint up with it. edit: wait I may have read that wrong...the tape was only on the body for less than a minute, and it wasn't used to mask for painting? definitely an adhesion problem there somehow. if you think you will have adhesion problems soak in Westleys bleach white for a day or so...it removes resin mold release so I am sure it would remove anything on a styrene body. personally I rarely if ever find adhesion problems with styrene whether I wash the body first or not, but I typically spray primer first just to find parting lines etc so that probably etches into the plastic and forms a good bond for the paint to lay on top of. luckily I live in a dry area so humidity rarely affects things. as for paint problems: welcome to the club. been griefing over paint myself lately. and it always seems to be the clear coat that gives me the most problem, but it is usually running or crazing, not lifting from the surface. but remember: paint is the hardest part...just strip it and start again jb
  18. am in the process of possibly having some sets of the cooling fins made up for me to purchase and resell. if anyone is interested, pm me and I will put you on the list for if and when they arrive. I should have 20 or so, I will keep 5 and turn the rest. jb
  19. the Revell parts packs aren't that expensive if you look around; I bought two custom triumphs not long ago for 40$ for the pair and a Honda Super Hawk for about 15 a few months ago. nice hardly worthitson tim! jb
  20. also wind some detail wire around a stickpin or small diameter rod to give you a very nice simulated spring of whatever diameter or length you need. jb
  21. thanks for the pic, looks like some usable stuff in that set, especially like those steering wheel centers. but its that cooling fin kit I really need! jb
  22. >Round 2 releases it. not gonna happen you read it here first. first million or so. jb
  23. thanks for the comments, here is a shot of the King T from the back showing the Jaguar (I would imagine) IRS. I added some details like the exhaust tips and the brake rotors with calipers (should have taken time to get rid of that seam though!), but essentially what you see is what the kit is. pretty impressive and as I say it wasn't all that bad to assemble. rear suspension did take some doing though because it all kind of has to align properly or its not going to sit flat, and the alignments at one point include like four different sub-units. but it did actually all line up and sit flat. I put it all together with white glue first and then tried to sneak in some super glue when it was positioned properly. very nice detail there, right out of the box. with the Wild Dream, the real car and hence the model wore M&H Racemaster slicks on all four wheels. looked dumb dumb dumb (in my opinion of course). spoiled the looks of the original car. so I found some suitable littles for the front and made it look a zillion times better right there. I really want that 32 with the crazy quad light grille and edsel (I believe) grille insert. I really loved that kit when I was a kid and probably built it 3 or 4 times, both cars. the willys was a favorite too. what I would really like to see come back in this vein was that chevy nova wagon pulling a race car I don't recall exactly. I do believe that was AMT, right? jb
  24. oh so right there he says cooling fins (the subject at hand) are "OOS" which I take to mean "out of stock" maybe the other PE set just went out of stock too. I don't even know what is in the other PE set. jb
