especially love that orange crate, I got to take a crack at that one of these days, your build is an inspiration! jb

Wayne, where did you source this intake manifold? I need one for a build I am contemplating. many thanks in advance not that anyone is going to give a rats azz, but all the problems with posting I used to have all have come back. and no I am not going to use spyware like google (NSA) chrome...which is appropriately named since chrome is mostly an illusion. jb

Jeremy review that LP you use as your avatar, particularly working for the clampdown. jb

The Most Embarrassing Cars To Drive
jbwelda replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
what a pile of pretentious junk. jb -
back sooner than I thought, with photos! here is what I think I remember came out of the roth kit: then we have this "number 1" trophy, origin unknown: a selection of trophies, you will see four distinct types if you look close another assortment, the one in the middle I think I cobbled together from spare pieces: finally, three distinct trophy cars, all chrome: I would be interested in seeing any and all others. jb

I collect those as well (hey if I can't win em, I might as well collect em!). most of them are pretty much free form, whatever fits together goes together. there are all sorts of them in all sorts of kits, including a lot of current reissues. some have crossed flags, some are trophys on bases, some have cars and some don't. then there is the extravagant multi level trophy (with multiple singing angels) and little bitty cars that came with the Uncertain T. a roth car that is still widely available if not actually in production, the Mysterion I think, has another very nice multi level one with small (like 1/4 the size of those normal sized chrome trophy cars) cars and an elaborate stand. maybe later tonite I will gather together a bunch of them and take a pic, and post it here ps: I like oddball engine stands too... jb

The Most Embarrassing Cars To Drive

there used to be this place called Cruiser World or something like that here in Walnut Grove, specialized in, uhh, "customizing" only PT Cruisers. The above would be a mild, tasteful example of what came out of there. amazingly they existed a good few years though the last two or so always had the "Out Cruizin'" sign in the window. I used to chuckle in amazement that a place like that could even exist, not to mention 35 miles from the nearest metro area. anyway, in summation, ANY car that comes home on a hook is embarrassing if you ask me. possible exception: initial arrival of the barn find. jb -
Southeastern Finecast Rover/Morgan/MG V8 Engine Kit
jbwelda replied to jbwelda's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
isn't the johan 1/25? but aside from that discrepancy, should fit, I suppose. would have to or want to use completely different induction though and not sure why you would want to waste all the UK stuff for the sake of a motor you can get four of in the Showboat. jb -

Hi Ruben, I know this doesn't directly help you but I suggest you go to RC Country in sacto, and pick up some Tamiya clear blue, spray or bottle. I don't know exactly about this transparent blue you got there but in my experience unless you know it will work, Model Master is kind of fraught with disaster. I take it you might be decanting it and using it in an air brush? you might also try mixing what you got there with Future and shooting that...ought to tone it down a bit. greetings from the delta... jb

"NEW" altered Tee body parts pack kit
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
yep I see what you are talking about; still, personally I think it would look better with the frame shortened. but using that real estate in front of the moved-back radiator shell for the moon tank would look good too. now the thing about Bernards most beautiful build, is that it looks like he split the difference and left still a gap between the motor and the firewall, but this one looks much more realistic I would say. I think I would like to shorten the frame and snug the motor against the firewall some more. both very beautiful builds and it is inspiring me to dig around in that double dragster kit for a forthcoming project. might even use this T body shell because its a favorite style of mine, but I am afraid I won't need the new parts pack because ive got multiples of the body already from previous issues. jb -
>hard to tell which way it is going. watch it now, you are definitely giving me ideas! it would look pretty neat with the ends swapped! jb

wow that Tempest is some strange stuff! I sort of knew there was something weird about those cars but never really knew what, aside from the half-a-V8 engine. but that enclosed driveline and rear transaxle, I had never really seen that before. so I personally would be around second in line to vote for it as THE candidate, plus its just kool in its shape too! jb

"NEW" altered Tee body parts pack kit
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
hmmm too bad but it still looks great. so whats the fix there? are the frame rails parallel between the rear wheels and the back of the trans? so it can be easily cut and fit back together with a half inch gone? they did run cars like that back in the day as you probably know, but it doesn't look as good as having it more compact, to my mind anyway. and you are kinda between a rock and a hard place what with that built in rear tire clearance on the body/turtle deck. kinda stuck with major surgery. like I said, I still really like it. if you didn't glue that body down you could have the fiat body as a replacement to add some more interest too. kool build! jb -

hoping to wrap this one up this coming week, polished out the black and it looks much better now, will put a coat of wax on it later, but for now some pics of it with the headlamps posed in place, will glue together after waxing I think. then theres some little stuff to complete and I think I will call it done. made some kustom teardrop taillights that are gonna look sweet back there. also am planning on taking a black technical pen and going around all the separations between colors and clean them up a little more. jb

also, as superglue ages it seems (to me anyway) to take longer to set and cure. I have found that with both regular and thick style ( I mostly use Zap products), after I have had the bottle for awhile (a year maybe) it will take noticeably longer to cure than it used to. some people keep theirs in the fridge to combat this but I just compensate for it with accelerator. I avoid using it if I can, it can leave the joint kind of brittle versus letting it cure naturally, but when you want that very position its essential...if you can apply it without disturbing the pieces. jb

How do you prep tire sidewalls?
jbwelda replied to Speedfreak's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I will tell you, the beauty of Dullcote is that it tends to blend together whatever it is over. it seems to almost totally hide brush strokes and uneven paint areas or superglue lightly slopped over or any multitude of sins. if you brush paint the tire, then spray some DC over it and it will look as even as if you sprayed it. jb -
How much should model kits cost?
jbwelda replied to Bob Ellis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Everybody thinks that? Maybe you better go back to mind reading school before you make any more laughable pronouncements like that. I think 50$ would be a better price if we got a much better product (mainline USA kits) than we are now. oh and something us not-stuck-in-the-fifties guys would appreciate. oh and Tamiya quality. edit to add: I don't think "inflation" has anything to do with discretionary luxury items like, uh, toys. jb
