  1. That's constructive.
  2. Hi Ron, That's about the best comment on this topic, my opinion! Wonderfully stated. Thanks.
  3. Hi guys, I'd like to take better pics of the things I post here. Can you show me your light box? The simpler the better. Also, what lights do you use? I'd like to make a better DIY setup. Anyone? Michael
  4. Thanks Ray for the tips about lighting. I need to do more and better lighting for my pics. Michael
  5. Dale, stunning paint job, perfect color for a hot street Willys. The frame detail looks great. Michael
  6. Looking good Tim. It took you 2 hrs. to make the plan. It would take longer for me to even figure it out. Excellent machining in my opinion. Guys, a race car is being built here. Michael
  7. Ray, that's fine looking paint! How can you stand waiting so long for paint to dry? I'd go nuts. Michael
  8. Danno, I read that Eric is referring to those who are only able to cut and criticize a model, for whatever reason. He is commenting about what I wrote last. I referred to guys on another forum who cut every single model that is shown. That's being mean, in my opinion, and destructive. Nitpicking, for the sake of just cutting a model, stinks in my opinion. Because this group of guys knock every car they see, I questioned the sense of it. Result, I get mobbed and beat on because I can't take "constructive criticism". Guys with 1000's of posts, 1 car shown in 4 years, and cutting on every single entry is mean. I say to myself, the forum is not the right one for me. Bye. I haven't ever seen this type of behavior on this forum, and myself, as well as several I know here, are grateful for the decency. I don't mind when someone points to a problem zone on my builds. Most of the problem areas I can see myself, but am not able yet to do it any better. The overall view is important for any model, my opinion. If a car is generally a good looker and well built, I'll refrain from any criticism. Michael
  9. Good looking model! Robert, I like too the firewall and engine details. Michael
  10. Hi Jeff, cool Willys! What brand paint is this tangerine? Looks sharp. Michael
  11. Wow Jim, that is some very fine detailing! Love it. Just a question. Are the 1:1 cars black underneath? One of the above pics shows a darker gray color along with black. The detailing would stand out even more if dark gray wouldn't they? Michael
  12. I'm not talking about constructive criticism. I mean the guys that make comments on every single car that's shown on a forum, and always finding something that "could be better", whether the OP wants critique or not. As stated before, on another forum there's a handful of guys that knock every single model, rarely, very rarely does a member get by without any negative points. Then they write, "I can't find anything". That's pushing it, in my opinion.
  13. Huh? Mr. Myers, I've been here just about one year. I've built 3 models, none were OTB, so they took awhile. All three cars had a WIP thread.as well as 2 in Drag Racing, 1 in Under Glass. I build one car at a time.
  14. So where is a nitpicking topic? I did a search "nitpicking", nothing came up, and I haven't seen one here. "site:modelcarsmag.com nitpicking". The topic is still fairly popular though. I think most guys get irritated when others are knocking a model constantly, and not showing anything themselves. I checked the other forum out just now, before I logged on here. There's a beautiful car just up, and 4 out of 6 comments are knocking the model. Two of the guys even repeat what another nitpicker wrote, and adding "the car is not my taste". "The car looks good, the paint is fantastic, but the hood is crooked". Man really. The OP writes back, the hood is OK, it moved while being photographed. I wouldn't even mention the hood. I can't see where it's crooked anyway.
  15. Tom, thanks for this. Again, you are able to sum up what I'm actually trying to convey. Michael
  16. Ron, you are so right! I personally have a big problem with criticizing another guys work. I just don't like to do it. If he wants it, then OK. I'd write maybe the paint has some orange peel, work on sanding smoother before finishing. I see it like this; a man shows a model he's just finished and he has the guts to do so on the internet. It's his work. It ain't perfect. He has no problem with perfection. He did it. I am not going to knock it. If he writes for some critique, be easy and not brutal. @Ray, yep! That's the way it should be.
  17. Nick, I don't understand you. My name is Michael by the way. I don't like nitpicking. Michael
  18. Hi Tom, I like taking lots of photos too. They're unmerciful! If I can make it look better, I'll try. If I don't succeed, I really don't like reading about how 10 other members take it apart and offer no help to make it better. This is the model car experience I've had on another forum. The tone makes the music. I'm just wondering if I've become somewhat gun-shy about criticism. I do like the fact that critique on this forum is kept to a minimum. When asked for, OK. Voluntarily writing everything you think is not up to par.....dude, get.a.life! is what I think. When a member asks, "what do you think", then OK. "Experts" that show none of their own work is something that i had to learn about. Internet, right?
  19. Cal, you're so right. Why is it though, on this forum there is nothing to be seen about the "other kind"? I don't see any nitpicking here, I'm happy about it!
  20. Hi Stephen, sounds like a good idea. I wish I still had my old car models. I've done 100 of yards of thread, maybe a mile. I used to build tall sailing ships. Big ones.
  21. Hi Lucas, sounds good. I chose to just leave the forum, let them do what they like to do, I want no part of it.
  22. Here's an example. On a German model car forum, there used to be several new entries daily. The criticism was moderate. Nowadays, maybe two cars a week! The first 6 or 8 comments are what is wrong with the model. Like, "nice car..... bla bla bla. It's a shame you forgot the outside mirror". There was no mirror in the kit. An early 60's US car had mirrors as an option, they cost money and were not SOP. Recently, a gorgeous 56 Ford was shown. The model is very well done. The chief nitpicker: "The outside rear view mirror sits for my taste a bit too low". The guys don't ask for criticism like this, they get it whether they want it or not. Not constructive in my book. This dude has shown 3 models since 2010! But has 4000 posts, all nitpicking.
  23. OK. Constructive criticism. What about the other kind?
  24. Hi Cal, I agree. The clue is "constructive". Miles, do you specifically ask for criticism on your models?
  25. Jesse, now we're talking! The "appropriate manner" is important. When it's just blunt and more of a personal preference it's irritating. When the model is good, you know it's good. I don't mean great. Models don't have to be great, but I don't like it when folks feel they have to criticize. Still, I see here on this forum guys stating they're welcome for criticism. Not much comes up. Actually, I'm happy to see so little here.
