Questions about Bounty Hunter F/C reissue
jwrass replied to oldscool's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Gerald, Quick change rear axles were very popular In that era (mostly Halibrands) Mickey Thomson and John Buttera were pioneers in this area. Lil Johns highly modified Halibrands were more Buttrea than Halibrand. I think John was one of the best builders of all time and really the God Father of billet. A car built my Buttera was a work of art! Often to good for drag race car, that's why John left the drag race scene and started building street rods, Motorcycles and INDY CARS. I don't know if Connies 1:1 had a quick change in it but it would have fit the era. Very unlikely that the car was just plain white. Most likely a Murano Pearl. If it was painted out of Don Kirbys shop it most likely was painted by Don himself and lettered airbrushed etc by Nat. Nat worked for Kirby. Much like Mr "J" and Glenn worked for Bob Gerdes at Circus paint. I hope this helps! jwrass -
What type and brand of rattle can primer do you use?

On Thursday 7/10/14 I lost my balance on a ladder I was using to build a new deck at my girl friends house! I was about 4 feet up the ladder and the deck is four foot above grade,I took a tumble and broke both bones I my lower leg. Spent three days in the hospital and may need to have surgery. The only reason why I didn't have surgery is that the leg has been injured before and has much hardware in it. The new break is part way through the hardware and the surgeon wants to give the site a few weeks to see how it heels before he potentially opens a can of worms. As usual it could not come at a worse time!!(like there is any good time to have a injury) the shop is full, trying to get two homes ready to sell. Going to take it a day at a time as that's all I can do. Maybe now I can get my BMF tutorial done and a few on the bench. Cheers!!!!Jimmy "RASS"

Brendon, I'm reasonable sure that the 1:1 is a vinyl wrap, Their are a couple ways you could try! 1) Paint and decals. Many of the shapes and forms can be done with a airbrush but you said that you are not that good at it, so that may rule that out, the contingency decals should not be that hard to find or you can make your own. 2) There are some people who do make custom decals, that may be your only route. I have not had any custom decals made but have seen them advertised in this sites magazine. Hopefully someone will answer this post with a recommendation. jwrass

Model Master enamel over Tamiya primer?
jwrass replied to Speedfreak's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Enamel can be placed over Lacquer and should not be a problem as the solvents in the Enamel are not as hot as in Lacquer. I always have a question mark in my mind on the so called Lacquers in rattle cans even the ones I use and recommend. Some smell like true Lacquers and others don't, who knows what they put in those cans, when you look at the ingredients they are all over the board. Can Lacquer be placed over Enamel ? yes and no! You have to put on very dry coats and not let the hotter solvents in the Lacquer attack the Enamel, once you get a significant number of dry coats you can gradually make them wetter as the solvents should flash before they reach the enamel, this can be a very slippery slope, I don't recommend it and hold my breath, cross my fingers, knock on wood each time I have done it. I have not done this on models, but to me the principals are the same. I hope this helps! jwrass -

Chris and Bob, As you two know all of those grilles, headlights, taillights etc were airbrushed back In the day to give the faux appearance. Their is a 3 part youtube video of Kenny Youngblood doing said procedures on a Mustang Nostalgia Funny. It's fascinating to see him perform his magic!! Check it out. Jimmy "Rass" -
Chuck, Thanks for the info! The whole build Is just fantastic!!!!!

People who cut in line at the returns area at my local big box building center! The whole line process they have is a joke anyway ( there is none) when I go to the area I try to make eye ball effort to see who is in front of me as to wait my turn. Two people took cuts I front of me today, when asked who's next they just bolted to the attendant without looking to see if maybe someone was before them. Seems basic manners are not in vogue anymore. I just let it go! The last thing I want to do is start my day in conflict with some who's time apparently is more valuable than mine!

Chris, The youtube vid is pretty good and the Snake narrates it. It looks like some of the pictures posted appear to be in Snakes shop and may be part of that Vid. The vid has some great shots. Bob, With the side shots now I can see you are spot on with regards to the body on the model and the 1:1 It's much thinner on the 1:1 Jimmy "RASS" -
Louie, Great choice "the SHOE" was always a favorite of many! The stance of AZ boy is spot on. Great build AZ how do I see more? Thanks Mike, I will be checking out Wayne's tutorial. Good Luck on the build Louie, I hope you keep us posted!

Chris, I had a laugh and a trip down memory lane when I saw Lil John Butteras name on the back of Snakes car. That had to be one of the last funny cars that John had built as he was getting more into street rods, bikes and INDY CARS ( the Iinterscope/ Danny O/ Snake Indy deal/ & Lil John they were all mates) If you look up R & B chassis on the internet you will see that the B in R & B chassis of Kenosha, WI is John Buttera. the other half of the duo was Dennis Rollain, The company that I used to be part owner of (HVAC and Metal Fabrication) used to sell materials to these two on a regular basis. I didn't know John that well as he moved to the west coast as I was coming on board at the company. I became great friends with Denny over the years and John would visit and work in Dennys shop as Johns family still lived in Kenosha. John built and entered a car at Indy in 81 or 82 and much of that car was built in Kenosha at Dennys shop of which I sold them a lot of material. It is indeed a small world we live in. jimmy "Rass" -

Jeff, Very nice start!!! Nice choice!! Never saw Dale run the W.E. But saw him run many Iconic cars in the 70s. He was a well sought after shoe and one of the best! Good luck with the build! I will be watching this one for sure!! I'm with Mike do your own thing, enjoy the process. jwrass

Alan, Propeller fans may work great in a computer, However they don't make enough pressure to overcome friction loss if you are going to attach vent pipe or filters. Trust me on this one!!! I do air calculations on a regular basis and fan laws support my claims

Double Irked!!! Danno & Wayne, Perfect example of two who have the skills, dedication, work ethic and experience to help the new ones come into the fold without all the P.C. that go's with. With most of us who are retired or near retirement we have seen many changes, policies, procedures changes in our careers and we have adapted. Some for better some for worse. Some 15 years ago my employer (Fortune 500 Co) hired a Ivy league grad(Business Degree)who had ten years experience elsewhere. I don't think this man ever had a clue of what we did. He could count the beans but he couldn't plant them or make them grow! I don't think he could have sold Snow Cones on the equator in the middle of summer. He left for a better opportunity else where but our department was so screwed..... it took two years of hard work to recover. They brought someone in who had been in our industry, he rolled up his sleeves and helped undo the damage that had been done, hands on guy great man! Tainted blows my mind! A true professional is going to adapt to the times and circumstances. Wayne I'm sure the weapon you were issued when you started in law enforcement was a far cry from what you had when you left. You adapted to change. Each new work day I always have in my mind, is today the day. That's no way to start a day. I wish you both the best! jwrass
