65 impala pro street...Its finished..
Teddy J. Tannehill replied to 1 bad55 stan's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Stan you are doing some great work here. Really Keen, I think using the 65 is the perfect choice. From the comments it looks like a lot of the GM. guys agree. For me I think it is the round tail lights. A view that most challenger's would likely see if they dared cross swords with this "Fire Breathing Impala". Regards from Teddy. -
I like the stance you have givin' the GTO. rear end higher then the front for just the right rake. And the Front.....I love the Front so low and "Mean" it really brings out the "Ground Effects Spoiler" on the front. Really good lookin'
-
I forgot to mention the work you have done on the stance is right on. You have a good eye. One of my favorite lines is "If it looks right, it probably is".

Your Corvette is looking sharp. I like the Moroso valve covers....I like the idea of adding "Speed Equipment". For me that's all part of "Hot Rod'n 'em". With your talent and ability what ever you do will look great. I enjoy the updates and tips you are sharing.

My Dad used to build model airplanes he also liked trains he said it was more difficult to age them. I think the same can be said for cars and trucks. Welcome aboard. I am looking forward to seeing more of your "Barn Finds".

I like the pro street style....Just something about those big fat rear tires...I also like how you shared opening the box and checking out the parts...Its is so fun starting a new project...If you don't mind I might use this, next time I start a new project. Is this AMT kit one that has been in your stash for a while? I can't recall seeing the Box Art. Good luck with the excess plastic on the body....Some of the older kits had a lot. Last time I encountered this I tried something different. I washed the body with 409 and a toothbrush, rinsed then air dried. I sprayed the body with testors primer gray. let the primer gas out and cure for 3 days. Now any imperfections and flash will be easy to see and sand away. I really like the small flexible files from hobby lobby.

Teddy J. Tannehill replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Niko made a comment about the Jaw Hittin' the Floor....Niko before I read your post I was thinking the same thing...You took the words out of my mouth...John's work has left me speechless...I am still trying to get my jaw up off the floor...John you are a truly talented builder....A guy who can look at a car and just build it. I am blessed to see your work. -
The Mopar guys are going Plum Crazy to see more of this one...You picked a great car to build your way into the next chapter of your life.

I really like the vintage vibe you have going on this woody...these wagons always bring up memories of the beach and surfers and girls with tans...California Dream'in. From what I can see your efforts to simulate wood with the stain came out really good.
-
I really like your idea, it could be used for off road, lots of ground clearance. And I bet that power plant with the Hi Rise Manifold would not stall.

Great work you got every thing right down to the "Pretty Girl" minding the store.

Thanks Carl and Bruce. Always great to hear your kind words. I had a job that was running 12hr. days with no days off...I worked it a month or so, could not take it anymore. Guess I am not as strong has I used to be. I have had a few days off before my next job starts. It was nice to work on my cars. I am still learning a lot with each car I build. I keep telling myself to do more test fitting before painting and glue....I get eager to build...Bruce and Slusher you guys always build such nice looking cars. Can you give me some advice for body to chassis assembly?...This step seems to be where I run into fit problems.

I will add more when GTO is done

Teddy J. Tannehill replied to Teddy J. Tannehill's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the idea of the pros helping and giving advice on the forum is a good thing...Maybe that is why every ones work brings a lot to the table...For example I have been using a black stain for my panel lines...One of the pros suggest using the body color a few shades darker in these to make them more realistic....I look forward to using this method on the next car I build. Thanks for the good advice. I have not put any of my cars in contest. I know my skills need to improve. -
That's a nice paint job...I have looked at this kit a few times and almost got it a couple of times...I like it that it has the 427....if I remember the box art showed the car in Yellow....You have selected a much nicer color....If you get a chance keep us updated on how it builds for you. Seeing the body, top and hood in the light blue pearl, this kit is moving up fast on my must have list. I also remember the box showing some pretty good lookin' "Meats" on the car. Are the Rims and Tires as aggressive has shown?

Do you think the Germans would do a 1:25/1:24th scale 1955 Buick Special?. -
I am no expert , I have only built AMT, Revell , Monogram and Lindberg kits. For me the AMT kits are easy to build in the "Parts Fit" area of building. AMT kits are also good to give you extra parts for Custom, Drag, and Racing options. Sometimes the AMT kits are not long on detail for example the drive shaft and differential are molded in. Revell kits are good on detail but harder to build "Parts fit Problems" and "Flash" Excess plastic. I have had good luck with the decals from AMT and Revell, AMT decals are good to give you "Speed equipment" logos like STP, Moon , Hooker headers , Elderbrock ect. Revell decals will some times include emblems and even instrument panel detail. I really like some of the Old Monogram kits some were molded in color...Lindberg kits have some "Fit Problems" and the decals are more difficult to use...I am going to use the "Setting/apply Solutions" next time. To Answer your question....I guess it is on a Kit by Kit Basis. There are some really detailed AMT kits like the 58 Chevy Impala....I like 'em all and combine parts from all MFG.s to get what I want.

Hello everyone and thanks for responding. It is always nice to hear from you. I really love model cars. When I build a kit I try to make it look good....I do the "Best I can". I have received great advice from the Builders on this site...I look at the cars from that view point....each person has different levels of talent and ability....When it comes to building a car it takes me a long time.....I know that it takes a while for me to learn new things....I can see improvement with each car I build.....I also know my limitations I hate to admit this but sometimes the simplest modification throw's me a curve ball...I once spent countless hours changing the rims and tires on a car... all I wanted was "Mag Wheels" and "Wider Tires"....I got 'em to...But only after grinding the inner wheel wells and a "Mini Tub". I had fun....And maybe that is the point. -
Wow what a neat train of thought....I normally get kits that are not built or parts cars....I often wonder about the "Treasures" we gather. Lets face it who's kid'n who? we love model cars for reasons that range from wishes wished upon a star...Good memories of that perfect day in your first car on the road....The last ride you took with someone you love....Forgotten memories...A treasured model car Dad or your older brother built...Has "Builders" we intend to built them all....You know what I am talk'n about your "Stash" the ones in tube your waiting just the right color or concept to hit you...To built that car and make it look has good as you can...I must confess I went into a collecting mode for a while...I had a job that had me on the road a lot...I would route my trip's to take me through small towns...I was surprised how many places had model cars...Variety, drug, hardware, toy, stores....If I saw one I wanted Id pick it up....Sometimes I would pass one by and regret not getting it later...One day my Wife opened my closet in the basement...She was amazed how many cars I had collected.....I said "Those cars have been there"...there must have been something in my response that told her that "Those cars mean a lot to me"....She did suggest that I "Get some cars built before I get any new ones". Recently I have built a few cars...

Every Mopar guy love to find one of these....You built a nice Charger. If I remember right I think they called that a "Waterfall Grill"

Really Keen T Bird, I have always liked the 58. My older brother had one of these his was in rough shape. It barley ran when he brought it home...Dad was not happy....The car had been lowered by heating the springs...It was the victim of many "Shade Tree Mechanics". Gary loved it....When I ask why? He simply said "Its a 58 T Bird".....Dad must have liked it more then he let on...He and Gary fixed it up...It was never "Cherry" But "It was a 58 T Bird"...Yours is Awesome.....Here is the ugly version.

When I look through the "Under glass" or "On the Workbench" areas of the site and I see all the great work of the talented builders.....Well it makes me feel like "A Kid Again"....And I play "Got it, got it, want it, need it, Man I wish I could do that".....Builders thanks for that. Each of you has their own style. Weather you realize it or not every ones work brings a lot to the table so please keep the post coming. Have you ever noticed? That when you look at all the "Cool Projects" You think that's the "One I am gon'na do next until you go to next post....Oh wait "That's the one"....Some times its a forgotten kit in your stash or an idea that has been on your mind....and one of the Builders is actually doing....Have you ever noticed?
